Dishwasher to parts washer??

Hey guys, has anyone here ever converted a old dishwasher into a shop partswasher?

 

I would be interested in knowing how you got it to work without having the inlet connected.

You must be completely torn between throwing that old washer out and keeping it .

 

For space, time and in my opinion, over all function, I don't think it would be a very good option. I'm quite sure GE didn't design the washer to withstand the harsh chemicals you would want to put it in it to clean your parts.

 

Hybrid parts washer hmmm... there has to be a website for such endevors!

I've done it with success. Back in the day I was assembling stainless steel/titanium high pressure distribution lines used in a pure oxygen environment. Everything had to be 100% oil free. I used an old dishwasher with TSP as the cleaner, worked like a charm.

 

I would be putting in parts that are nearly in a "clean" state before using the dishwasher on them. Also be aware that unprotected mild steel parts will likely come out quite rusty, and need further cleanup to paint, etc.
