Not sure if tokico blue will work with my spring rates

Recommended Posts

I bought the ground control coilover kit with 225 front spring rate and 250 rear spring rate. I tried to call tokico but the technical support guy is out of town until next week and I need to order them yesterday. I've searched and found out that people use tokico illuminas, but I would prefer not to have the adjustable shocks because I would never adjust them. I would put them on one setting and keep them there. So my question is will tokico blues be ok with my spring rates?

From what I have heard and from other's experience, 300 is the spring rate threshold. You should be good.

That's for the Illumina and even then 300 is pretty high. The HP can probable cope with 225/250 for a little while but the valving will eventually fail.

While this topic is being covered I just had a question, no intentions of hi-jacking the thread or anything. JMortensen you're knowledgeable as usual, any idea what spring rate a set of KONI reds would be good to? I've been hunting around for that answer.

I recently asked the same question to a Koni specialist who had shortened a pair of 86-1811's for me, his answer was something along the lines of "if you feel your running out of damper send them back to me and I'll re-valve them to suit your new springs"

So I guess you can run pretty much any spring on them, I've currently got F-200 R-250 damper's set 3/4 hard all round.

I know nothing about the reds other than I've never heard anyone recommend them. All that I know about the yellows I learned here. I have experience with the Tokico blues, GR2's and the Illuminas, havne't used any of the higher end shocks yet so can't speak to them at all. I bought Bilsteins for my project, and if I were looking for a strut to run on a street car I think that would be my choice, I'd run an unmodified Bilstein.

I've been running the same spring rates the OP mentioned with Tokico Blues except I run them 250F, 225R.

The car is almost exclusively used for auto-x now so they don't see many miles but I haven't had any problems.

Just to add my $.02 to the discussion, if you're planning to auto-x the car I would seriously consider running the stiffer springs in the front.

I originally had the 250s in the rear and the car was pretty tail happy, I swapped them and it tamed down a bit, of course throttle control is a big facter when there's an LT1 under the hood. :)
