jas280z Posted June 16, 2010 Share Posted June 16, 2010 I figured I would post some pictures of my progress so far, since this site has helped me quite a bit. I got the car in July of 2009 from Connecticut, drove it all summer, then tore her apart. It had more rust than I had originally thought, but that just gave me and excuse to learn how to weld . Along with fixing all the rust on the car I added ZG Flares, a carbon fiber BRE spoiler, Kaminari side skirts, and a BRE spook amongst other things. Painted 370z Monterey Blue. I have also put in a 3.9 rear end, flat top pistons, and have Tokico Shocks and Eibach springs waiting to be installed. Hope to have it done and on the road by the end of the month. jas280z Posted June 17, 2010 Author Share Posted June 17, 2010 Thanks for the compliments! As soon as I saw a 370Z in blue I instantly knew my car had to be that color. I plan on running 16 inch Konig Rewinds With a 225 wide tire in back, maybe a 215 or 205 in front and probably a 50 or 55 profile. The booth helped keep a lot of crap out of the paint. After cutting, welding, and sanding in the garage all winter in was easier to build the booth than it would have been to sterilize the garage. To ventilate it we put an intake (furnace filter) high up on one end, and an exit (furnace filter with box fan outside pulling) low on the other end. The only real problems were a few runs and a bug or two that got in the parts we couldn't fit in the booth. But all in all the booth definitely was worth it, and it kept the rest of the garage from getting covered in over spray. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Quite tempting. That car should look pretty nice with the Rewinds on it. Did you pull the windshield and rear hatch glass out yourself? jas280z Posted June 17, 2010 Author Share Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) We pulled the rear and broke the front glass ourselves . We did have them reinstalled professionally though. Got the intake manifold and header on the engine tonight, and my dad got the front side indicators and headlights in. Hope to have the engine in by the end of the weekend!! Now I just need to do suspension, bushings, swaybars, interior, bumpers, valence, spook, hood vents... Basically plenty more updates to come. The valve cover (as well as timing cover, engine mounting brackets, thermostat housing, intake manifold, etc...) was powder coated with, as the powder coater called it, a "flip flop flake" clear. It causes the color variations when exposed to uv light. It looks really cool in the sun. Since my last post we got the engine in and running well. I have run into a few problems here and there (check some of my recent posts) but we seem to have cured the electrical gremlins today with some cleaning of connections. I have also installed twice pipes and redid the front suspension with Eibach springs and Tokico HP struts, as well as urethane bushings from MSA. I have been taking pics here and there as we go along, once I get time I will upload them. Right now I am focusing on getting it ready for the All Japanese Car Show in Rochester held by ZCCR next weekend. I still have to get the interior put together, mount the hood and front bumper for good. Unfortunately I don't think the rear suspension will be done by then, will have to do it after. I was thinking of trying to pull mine, but if I can get away without buying a new glass it might be worth it to have someone else do it. How about the new windshild gasket, does yours have the chrome surround still like stock? Really nice job on the paint. Can't wait to see the rewinds. We pulled the chrome trim from the old gaskets, the glass guy reinstalled it with the glass in the new gaskets. He actually spent most of his time with those pieces. Came out really nice. I am holding off on doing the rear, as I have a feeling it is going to be a challange. New MSA sway bars front and back. Konig Rewinds, 16 inch, with Hankook Ventus HRII rubber. 225 50's in back, 205 55's in front. I still need to put on a few badges and put the interior back together. jas280z Posted August 20, 2010 Author Share Posted August 20, 2010 We started stripping it and tackling body work in late October or early November. Painting was done the weekend of May 16. We finally got it on the road in late June. It wasn't until early August though that it was to the point where I could count on it to be reliable whenever I need it. So all in all the restoration took the better part of a year, and still has a few things to be done (rear suspension and BRE spook to name a few).
