  1. Hi everyone, I went to check out the car today and decided to pick it up. This is going to be a project car for me and my friend. It's a 74 260Z 2+2 (white in color) The engine was rebuilt about 4,500 miles ago and has dome top SU carbs and a RX-8 electic fuel pump. We towed her back to my friends house and started to prep the engine for start up. It hasn't been started for about a year and a half. Here are some pictures: I have a few questions about hoses and connections. Can someone tell me if this needs to go anywhere? Also is this hanging thing supposed to go anywhere? The piece that I'm holding used to go inbetween the left vacuum hose and where it connects to the manifold and the T was blocked off so I just took it out. Is this ok, or is that supposed to go somewhere? Also the vacuum hose on the right doesn't connect anywhere, is that ok or should it go somewhere?(let me know if you have no idea which ones I'm talking about and I will repost the picture with circles around them.) We got the engine to start up and idle. The idle is still pretty rough...The problem we have now is when we slowly get on the throttle the engine starts to stall, if we quickly kick and hold the throttle a decent amount then it will rev up but the rear carb will pop and spit out white smoke. This is my first time working with carbs so bear with me please...I found articles about how to tune the SU carbs so I will be reading them and learning how to tune it and give it a try tomorrow. I will also be posting better pics of the car tomorrow.
  2. WOW...that looks sick! I wish I could do that....
  3. I'm going to check it out 2morrow. I'll snap some pics then and post bak here once im bak home.
  4. i posted there for the V-8 in particular, and here for general opinions and the L28.
  5. Is it worth it or should i wait until i can get a non 2+2?
  6. I found one of these for sale locally for cheap and in great condition but was wondering if it's worth it to get the 4 seater to fix up. I was thinking of either putting a L28 into it from my friends 75 280 and helping him swap a 350 SBC into his. Or should I put the 350 SBC into the 260Z 2+2? OR, not bother with this if a 2+2 isn't worth it....
  7. well I just talked to the owner and they said the last time It's been started up was 7 years ago, but doubt that will make much of a difference with these symptoms....tryin 2 decide wheter I have the time to take this car on or pass it up....If I don't get it from them then it's just going to the junk yard n it's so hard for me to see this car just go 2 waste like that....
  8. Hi, I'm about to pick up a 75 280z from a family friend and wanted some advise from experienced/knowledgable Z people. The car hasn't been driven or started up since about 93. It's just been sittin on their driveway at their old house so it has rust on the body and all that great stuff... What I want to know is if there's any tips on getting the engine to start again. It doesn't have a battery so I'll be gettin a new one, but the last time they started it they said it ran just fine, so I was thinking replace all fluids and hand pump as much old gas out as I can. Then drop some oil down the spark plug holes to lube up the cylinders, remove the valve cover to make sure everything in the head is fine and replace plugs/wires/dirstributor cap. Is there anything else that I should do or any advice on what I will be dealing with?
  9. K. Got it! Thnx for answerin the questions. I'm just tryin 2 figure out what I want to use for my future project. So far I've got a few plans and I'm just tryin 2 figure out which one I want to go with in the end.
  10. so would that mean then that a centrifugal S/C would be geared toward the higher RPMS as a turbo is? And if the last sentence is true, then it's only reason for it being called a S/C would be because it's driven by a pulley, and it doesn't have the low-end power that a roots style supercharger has? (sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, I'm just tryin 2 get a better understand about it...)
