Its the piece that is spot welded into the chassis that the horns are bolted to. It is the "front of the box" tying the rails together.

I just finished rebuilding a 5 speed that I recently bought (out of an '82 ZX). I will be putting this into my '73. I noticed that the shifter return to center from the right (5th and R) is fine but the return from the left (1st and 2nd) seems weak, if it springs back at all. Is this typical for this tranny? I did try shimming the return spring to add tension but it really didn't help. I hope this description makes sense. Any input is greatly appreciated.
