  1. Over 3 1/2 years, loosing my house, 4 moves, 5 different jobs and getting things turned around again and I'm back! I moved into a house back in August '11. Got a project motorcycle and another z car in '10.

I'll have to start another thread on my new $200 '78 which will eventually become my DD.

I'll be getting back on my '74 project this Christmas holiday. She has been in storage with almost all my other belongings since Sept. '08. I'm hoping to get her going and driving legally before summer, so stay tuned!

  2. did you guys catch the aluminum low profile 2ton floor jack? that one was sweet and was a deal also. too bad i forgot the price.

Christmas present, $60. It's still sitting in the pathfinder. I did have to pay for it though...

I did get several other things I needed for work, like a hammer for $2 and a brush for $4.,

yes I payed for those "christmas presents" aswell. They now have an air chuck for $3.99 with a flexible end!

  3. Thank you!

I tried the whole vise grips thing, but no luck so far. I'm going to try some other tricks, worst case scenario drilling it out and using a heli-coil if need-be.

Time and effort wise, take it to a machine shop and they can remove it or drill it out and helicoil it at their expense. (get this negotiated up front)

I've spent the time and effort on drilling a broken exhaust stud out of a head with a diamond tip barb($40) in a dremel with a wand and it's not fun. Let the experts spend their time on it. If it doesn't come out like they want it to, they have to fix the problem.

Unless your like me with very limited funds at the time, it's well worth the cost.

  4. The thing that is disgusting is if someone did that, they would be the one in trouble.

There needs to be a law allowing societally transgressive idiots to be culled from the human herd whilst in someone's home unannounced and uninvited without repercussions upon the culler...

Here in Texas we just drag the body back in the house and then call the cops.

  5. Yeah it was easy to understand how that could become an obsession...

Obsession? No, it was just time spent waiting for the next payday that could buy some more parts to get my now(at the time) only z back on the road. Unfortunately, the paydays went away and I still needed the parts!

  6. I got nothing but time right now.

Thats where I'm at. My Z has been in storage since Sept of '08(when I lost the house), but when I did have a house and a garage I was polishing everything you could think of. I even polished the windshield wiper arms to a mirror finish!

  7. One man bleeding on the cheap....

Put a clear hose on the bleeder and stick the other end in a bottle of old brake fluid and crack the bleeder open. Fill master with fresh fluid. Pump pedal about 10 times. Check clear hose for air bubbles. If there are bubbles, fill master with fluid and continue pumping until clear fluid and no bubbles are in the clear hose. Close bleeder. Remove hose, fill master and your good to go.

This works real well for flushing or bleeding of either brake or clutch systems.

  8. Just last night, some idiot down the street let off a bottle rocket. This being in the city limits and after several hot dry days around here.

The rocket made it into a 3 gallon pot that was housing a lemon tree in the back yard and caught the dry leaves on fire. I only spotted it walking down the hall and saw yellow light illuminating the tall tree just outside the kitchen window. I looked out and found that the lemon tree had caught the plastic table on fire and this was melting and falling on the wood deck, trying to get it a blaze. I ran out and grabbed the hose and started spaying. Naturally the nozzle was set on mist. I turned it to full spray and nothing was coming out. turned it again and nothing. I then had to run and grab the fire extinguisher from under the sink in the kitchen. Got it put out in acouple minutes without much more damage to the deck, but the big tree above the table was about to go up in flames.

This just showed me that even thinking that you have a water hose handy doesn't mean Jack!

  9. ..everything was going good i drilled the hole good then the extractor got snug gave it 1/2 turn more and SNAP it broke(chrome vanadium my a$$)

This happened to me on two intake bolts and the first thing I did was throw away all my extractors and promised to never use them again. I managed to use a diamond tipped barb in my dremel wand to drill out the extractor and then finished drilling out the bolt to rethread the hole. Not fun in the aluminum head!

  10. Do I brake check?

    No. But...

I was once driving my '78 Z to a club one late evening and was about to take a sweeping right hander off the road I was on. Before I made it to the turn there was this blacked out Honda with load bumble bee exhaust that I first heard and then saw, swirving back and forth from lane to lane with noone else around. The Honda eventually came running up my butt only to go flying around me as I'm about to make the right hander. He then cuts me off to take the same right hander. Had I not been turning there was no doubt that he would have hit me. This put me pretty close to his rear bumper. After the right hand turn is made you come to a light and he is apparently now turning right with his turn signal on. By this time I have slowed down off his back end, but see his turn signal and thought I would just take his place as he makes his right turn(I'm going straight). No one in sight to slow him down and the cross traffic light is about to turn green. No problem.

The light turns green, he doesn't turn and I'm now hard on the brakes to stop behind him. No tire sounds made. I'm by no means within 5 feet of his back bumper. He puts it in reverse and backs in to me and bounces off. He takes it out of gear and puts it back into reverse and bounces off my front bumper. The whole time I'm thinking, I wasn't that close, your an idiot and stop running into me. He then puts it back into reverse, so I floored it, pushed him past his turn, hit the brakes and let him coast up away from me, probably in total shock. He pulls into the parking lot just past his turn and I flee....

He tried his best to catch up but with every turn I made the distance got larger. I never saw that vehicle again, but always wondered what was going through his head, especially after he missed that turn.

Looking back it was very stupid, but I wasn't going to let this idiot continue to run into me and I sure as hell wasn't going to get out of my Z with him around. I ended up just going home after that nightmare and called it a night because apparently the idiots were out all over the place just looking for trouble.
