  3. Better yet...drill a small hole in the bottom then fill with gun powder and ignite. Point in direction of neighbor's house..... If I remember correctly the truck pull was not that effieient of a seperation..... for my selection : lead hammer ...brass hammer various ball peens....steel hammer and 5 pound sledge...rubber mallet usually a waste of time
  4. Fellows It is times like these...if they can't see the "bird" of my middle finger, then I will kindly bend over and show 'em the full moon in raw technicolor. From what I have seen....... the protectors are incapable of protecting us. I am sick hearing about the bird flu when the bastards cannot even deliver the regular flu vaccine and the regular flu will klll a few thousand. Before it's over.. the air force in the name of security will be shooting down migratory birds and I still will not have the regualr flu shot.. incomptency and luancy going hand in hand. MY rant! Yeah something needs to be done but at whose expense and whose profit. We got the best poilticians and bureacrats that money can buy. .
  5. lot of pieces but little work actually done and a lot of work to be done... http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos
  6. Chelle....16 guage ..aluminum............. I found no practical way to cut stainless steel except with a band saw which will cut the outside edge easily with a 1/2 inch blade following a scribed mark on layout dye (Dyekem Blue).but the inside edge would need 1/4 to 3/8 " wide blade with an entry cut to the inside....plasma cut stainless steel maybe the option..I am looking for someone to cut steel camber plates on a plasma table.... I did not use the air or electric powered shears that are avaiable. I have the cutting shear dies on the large Harbour Freight bead roller but it's recomended capacity is 18 guage which about all cutting tools are for to that (18 guage) maximum........... For window trim, you could possibly step the guage thickness down and weld back any band saw entry cut that was made into the inside edge. You can gain fairly precise cuts with lay out dye and use small grinding discs, sanding drums and hand files to true precisely after the bandsaw cut. I have not given up on stainle$$ but ran out of money finding a way to cut it... it work hardens rapidly
  7. Rick...ya got style...always preferred your and Mr. Juday's Zee's
  8. True story... A friend, Don Morrison, was arrested for the hit and run of a train with his employer's dump truck. The police noticed a rather bent dump truck in an apartment parking lot and tracing the registrarion to the employer lead to the capture of Don who was hiding fully clothed under the covers of his bed feigning the flu with a half bottle of whiskey. Don claimed in his getaway from the train accident the bent dump truck took up two lanes of traffic but drove great. Don swore he began drinking after the accident due to anxiety and fear of losing his job. The judge went easy on Don but not the railroad or his employer.
  9. Throw this in for thought....I bought a used set (Carrera) from Mike K a few years back and sourced all the parts to replicate them.. Cheezer 240 Z cut out some plates for me right before the feds locked me up and 3 years later I cannot find his home without "gridding his neighborhood" (LOL). Apparently to have the plates cut out is not that expensive. Either way, next year I plan to make up about 3 sets for my projects...not that I need them but I am impressed when I see them on a Z
  10. The vice grip idea came from a Eastwood catalog "vice grip" panel flanging tool I successfully copied years ago. I have the Harbour Freight flange, shear and bead roller but it is too big for the trim rings and too awkward. The trim rings are not an original GTO style due to the placement of the fasteners. Small button head stainless fastners seems probable since I used them on the tal light rings. The head light trim rings are held in place with 4 scews presently but for a good fit 8 will be required with embedded nuts underneath the headlight bucket. I am already wanting to make new tail light rings with a larger diameter outside edge to "roll" for a better finished look. I plan to make a one piece grille opening trim ring with a rolled edge also. I just wish that I could successfully find a way cut stainless steel (and I tried almost every thing). It can be cut but at an expense $$$$$$$. Terry... coming from you a compliment is always an honor....I have this idea to construct a fiberglass panaterra hatch using mostly the rear deck glass as the initial mold for the deck portion and inside sail panels to maintain a curved appearance in line with the curved GTO body shape.
  11. The bead roller is made from regular Vice Grips TM with slightly concave Jaws. Theadjustable jaws will maintain an exact pinch to the trim ring bead. Wire welded to the top jaw is a Datsun L 6 hex socket head bolt end. Welded to the lower jaw is a section of 1 1/4" 0D stainless steel pipe which has a thickness of 1/8 inch. The head bolt end and pipe section was rounded and polished before and after welding to prevent any later scratching to the trim ring surface during bead rolling. As you can see the curve of the pipe section is higher at the back of the jaws while the front portion is almost level to the front of the jaws. Further fitting was done after welding as I test pinched the aluminum trim ring and finished ground and polished the pipe section until the tool left no marks or scratches on the aluminum. At this point the final polishing and grinding adjustment to the pipe section allowed the tool to actually remove prior scratches. The success of this tool will rest in the fitting ,rounding and polishing of the head bolt end and stainless pipe section. Stainless steel was chosen for it's work hardening properties and the the head bolt end is quality hardened tool steel. 15. Charlie.....(Stealth) Z is really coming together...great look....I like the mesh grille !
  16. I am corresponding with John W on trim rings. It seems I have a workable start on a set of prototype aluminum trim rings for the Stable Works kit.Just had a lot of life's setbacks lately.. LOL.... Once I get my wind back and the dust brushed off I will be back at it.http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos
  17. I am burnned out....done nothing on the GTO prpject in 2 weeks... My recently purchased Harbour Freight sand blaster (the big one) and powder coating sprayer are still in the packages...... ain't giving up since not much else is as entertaining http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos
  18. serious parts but some serious work to complete...One of the problems in tearing down a project into parts and pieces, the results of which will take extra ordinary determination to complete. Looking at some members project websites where vehicle has been completed... shows remarkable determination if not unbelievable patience and skill.
  19. In Oregon, you can go to the local courthouse (county and federal) and use a public compter (s) to locate name (s) and case numbers. With the case numbers you can request from the clerk to view the actual files both open and closed. Copies cost $.25 a page. Since most states are federalized for viewing public records ...your state should be similar in public access to criminal case records.
  20. A lot of complaints about after market fenders for fit... you may be better off to fix yours...or find others ...UPS will not ship the overlong Z fenders
  21. Bill's yellow Z has some very interesting modifications that I would personally like to see... Bill is a member that went out of his way a few years ago to pick up and shipped a pair of wide flared Z fiberglass fenders to me. A gesture that was greatly apreciated. Bill and Mat are like family in the Midwest.... the #8 zx has ain interesting two tone paint job....Thanx for the pictures Mat
  22. Words of wisdom from Mike and the doctor and honors to you in a miserable situation handled by you honorably and bringing this "reality check" to light.
  23. In cleaning up my 250 GTO project I had surface rust on rear end. I wire brushed it and used some left over POR 15 Rust converter. Sprayed the rust converter on with a spray bottle and rinsed off with water hose the next day. and when dry painted with a rattle can that mentioned "rust preventative" on the can You can go to about any paint shop and get the rust converter that I call "osphos". Since it will be awhile befire I bond on the rear shell tub , I can observe how this quick fix works on surface rust without spending $200 bucks on a rust proof paint crap. I got onto the POR15 mania and spent a lot of money on some real crappy Por 15 paint products on another project when I probably only needed a little "osphos" rust converter to treat under the battery. see rust picture http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/detail?.dir=8223&.dnm=bc21.jpg&.src=ph
  24. No doubt a west coast z with that little rust...Treat the rust spots right away...since being strpped and bare will aggravate and increase the rust condition
