  1. I just did a V8 convertion following the JTR directions, I wired up the fan with a relay and switch. When the fan and the headlights are on at the same time the turnsignals dont work unless the engine is above 2 or 3k rpm. Anybody have any clue why this is.

  2. My freind just bought an 84 300ZX and wants to put in a tubo engine, im sure its bolt in, but does the wiring interchange? Also what do turbo engines for the Z31 go for. I just did a V8 swap into a 75 z so I know what I'm doing and I have the tools, but how much work do you think it would be.

Another thing is if he doesnt go that route i have a 5 speed that I took out of my 75, would it bolt up the the VG in the 84 or should I just go find a later tranny.

  3. This board certainly is a wealth of helpful knowledge. You are correct' date=' building a car is a money losing proposition regardless what we see on Wrecks to Riches on Speed TV. Building your Z at 16 years old is an amazing accomplishment, you should be very proud of yourself. I bought my Z car already built and have spent the past year rebuilding much of it and have just started the LT1 engine swap. This is not my first project car and if I had it to do this one all over again I would not have bought a prebuilt one. Sure, its easier to have someone else do the work and spend the money, but there is nothing like being able to say "Yes I built that". I'm sure you'll enjoy the Firebird, but I but you'll be altering it very soon. Hotrodding gets in your blood and there is no way to remove it.

Haha, yep. The ported heads and LT4 hot cam are going in the weekend i pick it up. Once a car guy, always a car guy.

  4. I just wanted to say thanks for all the information you guys put up on this site, it helped me out a lot and without it im sure i couldn't ever have done it. Im selling the Z, it was fun, but i got an offer for a 97 firebird formula with an LT1 from a family freind and my little brother needs the garage space for his 65 mustang. Another thing i learned is that if you're even thinking about doing this swap seriously look in to buying one thats already done, im losing a bunch of money on it, but thats how it goes :). I did it for the learning experience, I got the Z when i turned 16 and hadn't ever even changed oil before. With help from you guys, the jags that run book and a couple freinds i did it. Im selling it to a freind so i get to see him dump rediculous amounts of money into it now. So anyways, thanks.

  5. I know i havnt posted here much but I just have to say ,its been a good day.

I drove my Z around today for the first time. I've driven it around the block before, but today I started driving it on a regular basis. So what does a 17 year old with a 300hp car that weighs as much as a honda civic do on his first day of driving it? Well, first I took it on the freeway with my freind in his 4th gen V6 camaro following me, he didnt even have a chance. Then I followed my brother in our 01 mustang GT, again, not even close. Not to mention I tore down a ford 302 for my brothers 66 mustang project. Very good day. I love this car.

  6. The supercharged 4.6 DOHC in the 03 cobras had bullitproof internals.

The other DOHC 4.6s arent as strong, but they are stronger then the SOHC engines.

This swap would be great if it was in japan, its hard to get parts for ford V8s there im sure, but from a performance standpoint its not the best idea in the US. I guess it will make all of the F&F target adiance happy.

What would have it cost to build up a 351 with a twin turbo setup.

The exausht is a shame though.

Its a beautiful car, I have to give them that.

  7. You guys can bash on the new mustang all you want, but you all know in the end of the day it will outsell all of its competiors combined 10 to 1.

Thats all that matters to Ford. They dont car if their car can beat a subaru STi or Mitsu EVO around a road course or at the drag strip.

The SRT-4 was a great car, but its a neon, there isnt one at my high school because of that.

There is one subaru STi, no EVOs, no 350Zs, no RX8s, ect.

There are 8 20005 mustangs, fords doing somthing right

  8. Alright, I went to another shop today, the guy wanted $600 again, but seemed like he new what he was doing. It was 2.5" to a Y with a 3" resonator and a magnaflow mufller in the stock location. Its all mandrel bent and he said it will "stay this color" so i guess this means it was stainless.

They had a really nice 32 ford in the shop with a buick V6 with a huge blower on it and a couple of turbocharged VW sand rails so i guess they knew what they were doing.

He said he could get down to $500 without the resonator, what does a resonator do?

  9. I dont really need that nice of an exauhst system. Right now I just want it running.

This is a very mild 350 and I dont need to flow much. I just want it quieted down a bit (as in be able to leave the neighborhood without 8 noise complaints.)

Later I want to put in a fuel cell and dual exausht but right now a Y to a single turbo muffler will be fine.

The guy wanted $600 for what I just said. I dont even think it was mandrel bent.

  10. Alright, this is very embarising and is the model way a person with no experience would go at solving the problem.

After throwing probably 5 hours and a new starter at the problem, i figured out my battery charger was broken. I tried my neighbors and it worked.

Man, I guess this is just part of working on cars.

Thanks for your advise about the cables awd92gsx, and no they arnt the factory wires, the guy who is helping me told me to put them where they were. I'll go do that when i go return the starter.

  11. Ya thats what I did, I cleaned all of my connections and I ran a wire to the S terminal on one end and i touched the wire to the positive terminal on the starter. When i bypass the starter relay it just turns slowly and stops.

Right now Im running my ground wire to the body and then another wire from the body to block. Im going to try running the ground directly to the block.

    Thanks
