  1. Put my hybrid solid adjuster in my Z and it worked great. Had to plug the feeder holes in the head and the adjusters wworked well. Car runs like a bandiit. I am sorry I ever considered running hydraulic lifters. What a mess. Took me 4 cam changes to solve the problem. My 3.0L runs great!

  2. I just went through this same drill with my 3.0 with a P90A head. I finally have a solid cam in it and solid adjusters. This is the 4th cam I have had in this new engine. I gave up on the hydraulics. I converted to solids. 4 cams in 156 miles! Not bad, right?

  3. What kind of oil are you using? If you are where it is cold (below 40`), most standard oil will run up to 90# of oil pressure, cold. I used to race a BMW/Chevron and the oil pressure relief valve would stick (100+) and the oil filter would expand and start to leak. I do not feel the L6 turbo pump will put out more than 90#. Once you get a little temp in your oil it will start to thin out and your pressure will run at 50-55#. Just keep it under 3000 when you first take off and it will be just fine. Your seals really do not have any oil pressure on them; Only crankcase pressure. I run Mobil 1 because of the lower viscosity charactoristics. If high cold pressure is a concern you may want to convert to a synthetic. (If the car has been rebuilt within the last 8-10 years)

  4. I think a thin flat washer mounted between the solid adjuster and the head will solve this problem. The washer will cover the oil hole in the head. Maybe you can get some valve spring shims for small v/springs? I know this will move the adjuster up 1/16 of an inch but we have lots of room. This way you can re-use the hydraulic lifters if you ever want to do it. (Who would do that!)

  5. Thanks for this info. I just got the message. I bought a new computer and lost my "favorites". I now have "Hybrid Z" back on. I just went through the drill of machining an old set of hydraulic lifters and a set of solid adjusters to make them work in the P90A head. What a deal! A buddy of mine (Andy Barcheck) has a lathe and is very meticulous. He did the fine work including silver soldering the solid adjuster into the shortened hydraulic base. We could've had a V8! (Timesert)

  6. I installed a stock '83 ZXT camshaft and the problem is solved. The engine runs very well. It took awhile for the lifters to react but it smoothed right our in a couple of minutes. I drove my restored '71 for the first time. It ran very well. Now I will order a performance cam from Bull Frog Cams and see how it goes.

  7. I know that P90 heads have solid adjusters. Some of the P90A heads have both solid and hydraulic lifters. I am wanting to convert a hydraulic P90A head to solid lifters/adjusters. Are the solid adjusters on a P90A the same size (dia) and thread pitch that are in the P90A? How about the solid adjusters on the P90A head. Are these the same size and thread pitch that are used by the hydraulic lifters? I know you cannot use the older-style solid lifter/adjuster on the P90A head. How about the solid adjusters on the P90 or P90A head?

  8. I have a mild WEB Cam (.450/260`) for my P90A head. I am just curious how hydraulics will work with a solid cam. I called WEB and they did not know their camshaft was going in this hydraulic head. They did not think it would work. I guess there are not HD camshafts being ground. What were the ZXT camshafts? Lift? Duration?

     

    I did not want a huge camshaft until I know that this set-up will work. It is going on a 2995cc F54/LD28 short block.

     

    Anyone know anything about these heads... Cams?

  9. I have a set of cast flattop VG 30 pistons. I will take a set of forged or cast. It is going in a street resto '71 Z. It is a prepped engine: Lightened & balanced rods with ARP bolts, shot peened, balanced and polished LD28 crank, 87.5 mm F54 block, ported head and intake manifold. It is running SU's, a mild WEB cam in a P90A head with 6-2-1 header and electronic ignition.

     

    I am building the block to take additional power if needed. I will just wait and see what direction I eventually take with the head, cam and induction.

     

    I am looking at a good set of pistons, forged or cast, that bring me 9.5- 10.0 cr.

  10. Who is a reasonable supplier of L6 pistons? I have a set of pistons that the engine builder "mocked up" and told me the pistons were at deck height. When he put it together he said the piston is down in the bore .050!!! He calculated the cr to be 9.3 and now he says it will be 8.1. It will be perfect for a turbo but I have no such plans. The guy apologized and took the balancing and mock-up costs off my bill.

     

    I do not want to spend $600 on a set of custom forged pistons. I am happy with a good cast piston. What do you guys recommend?

     

    specs: 87.5 mm bore with a 83 mm stroke = 2995 cc

  11. I am hoping someone will put one of the LD28 manifolds on E88/90/90A head to see if it will fit or can be modified to fit. We are looking for a manifold with long runners to build a set of 3 SU's. ( I know... They do not work) If you guys that have one of these could email me with this info, I would appreciate it. I just need to know if this manifold will work on a E88/90 head.
