  1. Here is a pic of regulators.  Depending on when during the year the 260 was built [i believe] determines which regulator you'll need, 240 or 280.

    Left to right, 240, 280, 240 [replated]

You can see the spread or length between holes for mounting the 280 regulator is longer and the crank orientation is a bit deeper.  In addition the arms are more stout [thicker metal and somewhat wider].

Measure the distance [your door] between the mounting holes [longest span].  For 240z ~4", 280z ~4 7/8".

Very late response but I have the car running and I am pretty much missing the window to be a DD. I measured the distance and I am in need of the 4 7/8 regulator for the driver side. It was approximately 5 inches from hole to hole.

  2. I have a 72 240z. The driver side door was badly damaged when i purchased the car so I bought a new one off ebay figuring all the internals swap out. It was listed as "Datsun 240Z LH Ca. Door 69 70 71 72 73 MINT SUPER NICE!". I didn't notice they looked different until I had it bolted on the car and realized my regulator didn't line up or fit whatsoever. I will get those measurements today after work.

  3. The door I have is exactly like this one. From what I understand, this is a 260z door. As you can see there is no bump for the spring.
I will measure the distance tomorrow morning between holes.

I believe this is what the regulator should look like.

This has given me such a headache that I am also thinking about selling this door and finding a nice solid 240z door if I cant find a regulator.

  4. I am messaging that guy you mentioned from ebay "gira7777" Cause I have been looking for a correct Tall Stalk fender mirrors for a while. Yeah dice, dont feel bad.. most people dont notice the difference between the Short Stalk (510 OEM) vs Tall Stalk (240z) Mirrors. Most Z owners here use the short stalk and seem to like them plenty.

  5. Sorry, I thought I typed down. Yes I'm on stock suspension . Maybe planning to get blues with eibach springs.

Ok, So just confirming it all to see If I can go this route

You are running completely stock suspension and you have now

    225/60/15 on 15x9 +0

All that is required is rolling/pulling all 4 fenders and then adding +5 or higher spacers to the front?

Do you have any rubbing after this? Thanks

  6. Thank you for your reply, I know turbo is the cheapest way to add power but I am only planning on doing stage 1 mods because it is a daily driver. I am going to replace the transmission fluid and hope that that solves/helps the problem.

Hah, sorry I didn't read your wanting to keep it NA comment on the first post. The rest of my post still stands though. Exhaust/Headers don't do much with this engine its about +/- 3HP from the dynos I have seen. Have to improve the engine and transmission and diff to get those speeds. If you are really up for it and have a knack for engines, or an experienced mechanic you have the option of boring out your L28 to 3.1L. Kits are sold from various places. Arizona Z Car / Motorsport Auto. I believe they run you around $3,200. Of course if you can located all the parts yourself be it junkyards or aftermarket, It should run you way less around $1300. And yeah of course if you just got the car, Change all the fluids, Check the sparks and such to give the car a tuneup if needed. Switch out those Park bench bumpers for early style ones or FRP. Anywho its your car and your choices! Do what you want and have a good time doing it =).

  7. You are better off Selling your engine and getting L28ET if you can find an honest trustworthy mechanic to swap for you unless you are eager to learn and can do it with manual and some time. The Turbo Variant of your engine will come off of a 280zx Turbo'd obviously. If what you are after is faster 0-60 you would also be good to find the transmission from the same car 81-83 5-speed. Differential as well.

    So to sum up.

L28ET (you can usually find for about 600 just be patient and search)

280zx 5-speed tran (could find bundled with engine or might have to find a used one somewhere)

R200 out of 280zx or if you really want accel 4.11 diff out of the 200SX turbo

The most important advice I can give you though is be patient. You want to go out there and get everything done quick but you are young and have lots of free time on your side. Do everything with research and patience. Wait for the right deals at the right times. Don't cheap out on parts.

  8. yep, pretty sure. it might also be the distortion of the camera's lens to make the depth seem deeper. but i'm thinking it's the type one from MSA

Yeah I actually went through this struggle couple days ago, That was the Air dam I wanted and I could not find it. Decided It was that one and the camera with paint made it look different than it really was.
