  1. btw i was fooling around with the turbo location and it looks like i may have to cut a hole in the wheelwlel to run the intake to the turbo, but it will fit. im also gunna have to hack of the bottom of the alternator bracket to run some piping. its gunna be a tight fit!
  2. u are correct. the reason for this is that im running a t56 and for the shifter to come out properly it needs to be a little bit forward. i actaully have the engine alittle further back than the final location. from all the pictures iv seen the oil filler should line up wiht the center of the strut tower. heres a picture fromt he firewall
  3. looks like it fits pretty nicely in my car. id say it almost looks like its ment for this car. it nice to know i wont have to worry about ground clearence. the subframe drops alittle lower than the oil pan so that will take the hit and protect the oil pan. my engine mounts will be custom becuase with the turbo im running and the limited space in the engine compartment. never thought id be running out of engine space in a z.
  4. nope i dont plan on making an exhaust dump...one way or another, ill make it work.
  5. im gunna try and run the exhuast out the pass. side because of the steering on the driver's side. if i have to, ill hack off the entire wing on that side. im mounting the turbo in front of the engine (about 1 inch infront of the waterpump). its gunna be a tight fit so ill be fabing up some log style headers similar to this: http://www.ls1speed.com/pictures/TT010.jpg hopefully ill have enough progress to take some pictures in about 2 months, righ now im finishing up my college semester but its almost summer!!!! as soon as i have something ill post.. Boy from Oz: thanks, found ill i needed from the ls1tech.com sticky. interesting thing i found. you can get a brand new ls1 f body pan for $150 from gm direct. iv seen used pans go for more on ebay!
  6. ill will be cutting the tips off (about 1.5 inches). i test fitted a f body pan and had some major concerns, though i know alot of people are using them. my car will be pretty low so i figures the c5 single piece pan is the best way to go. btw nice car! i dont think im gunna cut off as much as you did but rather take off the ends.
  7. hey i just got a corvette oil pan (ls1) and need some part numbers. i need; oil pick oil level stick thinggy oil level tube thanks!
  8. also, i looks like even with the wings cut off, the c5 pan would hold more oil, but its hard to tell. anyone know for sure?
  9. so if im reading this correctly, the problem with the vette pan is the wings hit the motor mounts? ill be custom making my mounts becuause of the turbo ill be running. my concern with the f body pan is ground clearence. its much better than the pan i have now (truck pan) but i think the c5 would be better. also i have a tig welder if i needed to cut the wings off (i will try hard to keep them).
  10. here are the new pictures. if they are to small you can click on the link in my sig to see the larger version.
  11. btw i clicked the link and it didnt work. id really like to see that site. also i have the orignal alternator bracket for the engine so i think ill keep it in the stock location(although i dont like how it looks). i may use all the acc. from a z28 becuse then the belt will be closer to the engine. in need all the space i can get in front of the engine becuase of the turbo.
  12. i went ahead and drilled the spot weld and removed the latch.. AND IT FITS! really close though...i did put the engine kind of high up for a safety space but it fits. the hood i have helps out alot, its like it was made to fit around that intake! its kinda dark now but ill make sure to take some pictures tomarrow before i pull the engine out again. thanks for all the help guys, i would have gave up without it!
  13. i was thinking about that but i would still need to modify the hood to get it to fit. id rather not put a hood scoop in. i am still considering it though.
  14. 5.3l lm7...or yeah i guess you could call it the baby ls1:)
  15. today i decided to test fit the engine even though i dont have the transmission yet. i really just wanted to see if the intake would clear the hood. well intake will not fit. a big problem is the rear part of the intake hits the latch so i cant move the engine all the way back. it also would certainly hit the steering rack. i def need to move the engine back more for the turbo also. its a big turbo that i want to mount in the front of the engine comparments, theres no way it will fit with the engine as close to the front as it is now. so i guess im gunna use an ls1 intake....although i really didnt want to....oh well. sorry if the pictures are too big btw i dont plan on using that big ugly fan, just was to lazy to take it off.
  16. do you mean fit the engine or fit under the hood. i know you can swap ls intakes, ive seen it in person. i talking about physically fitting it (truck intake) under the hood. just want to make sure were on the same page. im gunna try and keep the truck intake (keyword try) because iv heard the longer runners gives you more torque. plus why not use what you have. if i have to though, i dont mind dishing out $100 or so for an ls1 plenum.
  17. how did the intake fit? most people say it wont fit but some people say you can just bearly get it in. id love to see some pictures of the engine in the car. i plan on test fitting my engine late this week or this weekend (spring break starts thursday!). i will post some pictures as soon as i do.
  18. i sold the carbs for 60 and the head for 55. i posted the block and transmission and couldnt get anyone to take it off my hands for free...ended up tossing it.
  19. you wana bet i cant fit that intake under my hood? the oil pan is very easy to find on ebay or you can modify yours. another thing is alot of people like the deaper oil pans (if they can fit it in thier car), you can sell you deaper oil pan for $100 easy on ebay. the alternator is mounted alittle higher when compared to the corvette alt which is lower and further left. you shouldnt have any problems there.
  20. i just baught a 5.3l lm7 for $300 with 50k on its (confirmed) the 6.0 will cost more though. i know for a fact the lm7's block is 109 pounds more than the ls1. over all i cant see the engine being more than 120 pounds over the ls1. they both use the same crankshaft and same rods.
  21. the cam will fit, no problems. the heads fit but the intake valve (or it might be exhuast) on the ls1 head is slightly larger. the valve will likley hit the bore. if you bore out the 5.3l or if you have a 6.0 block, it will work with no problems. the two engine as so similar that they even share the same rods and crankshft.
  22. nope i havent, not atleast on a wide scale compared to spool guns and wirefeeders.
