the good thing about spending a bit of money on the car right off the bat is that you won't keep running into things you need to fix when all you're trying to focus on is getting that V8 in there. Nice clean car you bought.

updates! Been busy with christmas but here's another vid.

thanks seattlejester. I've been exams for the last week so it's been a little slow, but I got a whole evening/night of work in.
and just got the BOV all figured welded.

got a chance to put a few hours in tonight

Nice! I can't wait until winter is over! Ugh That video gets me so excited.

Little more progress. Did the 3" downpipe and welded the Vband flange on. Still deciding on dumping the wastegate or not. I would certainly benefit because of my 2.5" exhaust, but at the same time don't really want a stupidly loud car, even though it's only when under throttle.
anyways, here's the video:

out of sheer post traumatic stress, I don't know if I can tell you. haha A screwdriver, chisel, hefty hammer and about 6 hours. If you set the chisel right where the 2 halves meet and point into the center of the runner and wack and repeat until you have one side done, you can fold it over on itself and pry it out. The first one will take you the longest and after that you kind of figure out an easy way. if I nicked the runner, I ground it smooth with a porting tool. The head has to be off the block or else I don't know how you would do it.
I would NEVER do this again, it was a PIA and I would just rather break the bank for a P90. You can quote me on that. -
sorry, BlueDestiny, not sure what you mean by that. You mean performance differences before and after?
-
take your dipstick out and smell the oil. You may have to change it if it smells like gas, if you were flooding that bad. At least the injectors were only 19 lb/hr
-
that's about as rough as mine looked when i first got it

this is one of my favorite builds. Took forever to read through though. I bet you spent a little more than 1500 in the end haha. Always happens

Started converting my car to turbo this winter already (salted the roads early). I'll also be doing the 240sx gut swap onto the 4 speed bell housing if anyone is interested in seeing that in this thread. I'll be posting videos periodically on youtube and I'll give the link here. This is mainly for more "intelligent" comments and discussions and to share with fellow Z'ers.
A little background...
This is an F54 block with a P79 head with the exhaust liners removed (It's way too hard to find a P90 around here)
aluminum flywheel
ACT 420 ft/lb 6 puck clutchalready running on megasquirt (when it was NA)
500cc injectors
3" throttle body
aluminum rad
Let me know what you guys think...

Holy **** dude! You're really going all out. What did that crank cost you? $3165? lol
-
You would be correct, there was a recent thread that gave the dimensions of the ringland for the turbo and N/A flat-top pistons. The pistons are nearly identical for the exception of the pin height and the dish.
Well thanks! This thing is definitely my labor of love.
Ok, since I haven't updated in a while I'll get everyone up to speed. I installed a set of crx seats into the car. Fabricate a few brackets, use the datsun sliders, and we are good to go. I love these seats! The bolsters fit me so well and are so supportive! Pictures:
Anyhow, this Sunday was quite interesting... I was running some errands in the car, just enjoying myself, when as a pull onto a side street I hear a "ting ting ting". I didn’t think much of it just sounded like a rock hitting my IC piping. I knew something was wrong when I no longer built boost... I pulled over immediately checked everything no blown joints everything is in its place. I limped the car home, when I get there I take the filter off of my turbo to find that my compressor wheel is not spinning. I thought the turbo was toast; I proceeded to pull the sucker off to find out what went wrong. When I got the turbo off I spun the compressor wheel, somehow it was free again... while I was taking the downpipe off so I could checkout the turbine a piece of metal falls out of the turbine inlet. "The turbo is screwed" to the contrary I’m one lucky SOB. The piece of metal that came out was just small enough to reach the blades, yet when it made contact it wedged the fins instead of grinding the ever-living hell out of them. The turbine was fine, now to find out where the metal came from. THE EXHAUST LINERS! On this discovery I pulled the intake and exhaust manifolds to see which cylinder it was and if removing the liner was necessary. I found that the number two exhaust liner was so loose it was rattling. Pulled that sucker to find a gap where the missing piece fit. Upon more inspection none of the other liners were loose of fatigued so I left them in for the time being. I smoothed out the port and reassembled. I know this is far from optimal but the car is currently my only transportation so I needed it running ASAP. So on to pictures!
Ahhh, the port it as you drive technique

updates!

Hey, I'm looking for ZG flares and I'm willing to trade my rare Cal z (jim cook racing) full fiberglas widebody kit made in the late 70's for some. Just want to get rid of it, it takes up so much space in the garage and I like the flares look.
Heres a vid of the condition and a picture of what it's supposed to look like.

yeah I posted them in the wrong section the other day. I can't figure out how to delete them :S Anyways, I found they were more suited to be how to videos more than car update vids. I tried everything else on those rear contol arm bushings. This video is as a last resort (which I ended up doing for all 4 lol..) hence stubborn bushings

hey, just a few vids that could help out some people who get stuck or aren't sure what to do.
