I need a pair of rear stub axles (not the u-joint drive axle) and companion flanges from a 280z. If you have a set available please contact me. A friend of mine was going to help me do a 5 lug conversion on them and ruined the splines on mine when he clamped it to his lathe....long story. Going to stay 4 lug

I have been autocrossing in SM2 for a two years with my mildly built NA 2.8. I am getting a lot better, but now I believe that I am just underpowered compared to my competition. The main place I run is not a sanctioned SCCA track and no one was able to tell me what class going to the V8 would put me in.

Any progress this month? I just read through this thread and I am very interested in a set. I had read that people break u-joints and stub axles with there v8 cars, but I figured with my 1977 280Z L28 NA I was pretty safe. I was wrong. I took my car to a local drag strip this past Sunday and sheared 2 of the caps off of my axle u-joint (no play in joint prior to Sunday). I'm putting in brute force joints, but now I'm worried about the stub axles. I am in the middle of the chop cut portion of my carbed chevy V8 swap on my 71 240z using 300zxt axles and 280z axles. I went to a local machine shop to see if they would be able to convert to 5 lug for me. They said no problem since the axle was made of mild steel. I had it checked and it really was made of weak mild steel. I thought the MMS axles would be virtually unbreakable, but I see that some people have already broken them too. The car is primarily an autocross / occasional track car, but I enjoy going to a test and tune day at the drag strip for fun every now and then. I would like the comfort of having the strongest axles possible back there. When a stub axle breaks on an S30, does the wheel fall off too?

Thank you for your help and insight, that is exactly what I wanted to know. I too was walking through a local junk yard and saw the miata rack. Just so happens my car is already apart so I thought if I'm going to do it, now is the time. I will start looking for a Subaru rack. Thanks again.

Hello everyone, I'm not new to the site or Z cars, but I am new to V8 zcars. I'm just starting my build of a 350 T5 swap. I have searched for "power steering" "miata rack" "power steering rack" I have not found the answer to two questions. 1. What year Miata power steering rack would I use with my set up and the JTR kit? 2. Is the Subaru rack better, easier, cheaper, than running the miata rack? I have seen more info on people using the Subaru racks than I have Miata racks and I would like to know why. Any help would be great, or if my search was not good, can someone tell me what keywords will get me the information I need? Just a little of my history, if anyone cares. I rebuilt my 1977 280z to be a fun street car. I did some engine work (cam/shaved head/intake/throttle body, injectors) then some suspension and brake work (Tokico HP's and strut tower bars, toyota's). Then I found this thing called Autocross and I love it. Problem is, with the mods I did I was put in SM2 class and my ~200hp inline just couldn't catch the competition. So, if you can't beat em' goin em' I bought a 71 240z and I am in the middle of gutting it and putting in a roll cage, fuel cell, and of course the SBC 350 with a T-5 transmission. I want to run 275 series tires all the way around so I will be using POWER STEERING and I will use flares to make room for the tires. I can't afford coil overs right now so I'm going to go with the Tokico Illumina strut/spring package with plans to use heavier springs in the future. Unfortunely I will be running a 3.90 open differential for now since everyone wants the CLSD's and I think they are selling for just under 2 Billion dollars right now

I want to put the engine from my parts car 75 280Z in my project car 71 240Z. I am planning on using the factory SU Carbs. Anything I need to do to those carbs to compensate for the larger engine? This is my first experience with a carburated Z car. My other car is a 77 280Z.

I am looking to buy the Tokico Illumina shocks, but I don't want to go with the Tokico springs. I can't seem to find springs for the car other than Eibach's or Tokico's. I want a flat spring rate of 225lbs front and 250lbs rear. Does anyone know where I can buy these? My car is a 1970 240Z. I was considering coil overs, but I don't know enough about them to piece a kit together myself and I'm unwilling to pay the Arizona Zcar price of $1600 for the set.

I've searched and I can't believe I can't find this type of question anywhere, so I must be blind. Forgive me... I have decided to go with a carburated chevy 350 in my 71 240Z. I am not sure if I should install a 5-speed in the car or a 700R4. I do enjoy driving a manual car, BUT.. I am not very good at it. I slip the clutch and I bang the gear box pretty hard (horrible habit, but I can't seem to stop) I currently run my 77 280Z (built L28 5-Speed) in 6 to 8 autocross events per year and drive it 1-2 days a week to work. My goal was to enter more events with the 240 when it's done including a few trips to a road course. Does anyone think the 700R4 is a good idea for me? Has anyone ran a Z with a 700R4 in an autocross? If so, what was the verdict?

How is it different???
-
For relocating the rear differential and switching to a R200 - will all of the parts from a 280Z bolt right up or are the holes in different locations?

Is there anything different about installing a LSI/T56 in a series one car vs a series two car? The only difference I know of is the center console has to be replaced with a series 2 center console. Is there anything else?

LS1 using JTR Kit question

I think you are all correct in saying that the JCI kit is the way to go. Thank you all for the input and pics. -

Can anyone post pics of the JCI kit and tranny crossmember with mount? I've never seen what his kit looks like. -
LS1 using JTR Kit question
zkoresko replied to zkoresko's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I wish I knew where I could get the JCI kit for $430. His website says the kit is $695!!! The JTR kit is about $275 and the adapter plates I mentioned are $50. That would be $370 I could put into the rest of the swap if it will work. -
Has anyone been able to use the JTR small block conversion kit to install a LS1 into there Z? I know that the JTR kit is for older (pre ls1) engines, but I see that there are plates available on the internet to install a LS1 into a camaro, nova, etc... that originally came with an older style small block chevy. Has anyone used the combination of the JTR kit and the adapter plate with any success? I really don't want to pay the expense of the John's Cars Kit if I can avoid it.

Hello, I have a MS-1 v2.2 that I've owned for over 2 years and I am trying to get it to work. I had all of the wires connected last year except for the fuel injectors and the tach signal wires. I am using Megatune 2.25. I was able to see all of the sensors working. I neglected to follow the instructions on the tach wire and I accidentally connected the sheilding to the negative side of the coil. The coil got hot and the car would not run (i'm still using the factory ecu, I was just trying to check all of the new sensors). I disconnected the negative wire on the coil and the car ran again. What damage did I do to my MS-1? My MS-1 also has some kind of ignition control capabilities to it. I bought it used, but ininstalled and the previous owner did not remember what the program was called. I took the wiring harness cover off and saw that the #6 pin sheild wire was touching the bare wire of the #25 ignition wire. I put electrical tape between the two and closed the connector back up. The problem I have now is that I can not get Megatune to communicate with my MS-1. It would show all of my sensors working, but when I went to change any of the factors in the constant table, Megatune would loose the connection with my MS-1. I tried to uninstall Megatune and reinstall it on my laptop. I can't change anything under mscfg, or at least the "Activate" option never becomes available. Now I can not connect to my MS-! at all. As soon as I plug the cable in the Megatune turns off. If I connect and then open Megatune it tells me it expected "0x14" and the MS-1 is sending """ Can you please help me?
