  1. Any Nissan V6 > Ford Essex V6, so why bother?

The bother is that this is a 200 hp throw away engine= plenty of parts and donors for parts. I can bet you that Ford has sold more V6 Mustangs&E/F series trucks and Windstar/freestar mini vans than Nissan has any V series engines laying around,(ok well in the US.) which means a rod thru the vq or a Rod thru the Essex? who has money left for upgrades????

Oh BTW. N/A there have been some 230-265 3.8L(cam porting retuning bolt ons

    4.2l 250-300 depending on build)

  2. That "Split Port Injection" intake looks to be volume designed for torque, like the TPI intake.

How does it breathe under boost? Rev?

That windstar intake is taller and larger in volume than the standard mustang SPI intake, but the split port heads&intakes have dual intake ports long runners for torque, and short runners controled by butterflies to open in higher rpms like the 1st.gen 32 valve Cobra&SHO V6/8 ....So its Torquey& Rev's. But the 3.8/4.2L is a torque motor to start with.....Hey after all its just a 200hp, minivan/base mustang engine.

BTW thats with 2.25 diameter exhaust and 3 converters, and 9.1 cr. So add headers, cam,Rollerrockers, headers better exhaust, superchagers,or my favs.Turbochargers.

  3. Megasquirt scares me... Are you using the EEC-IV adapter board or going straight for a re-wire. Eventually I want to megasquirt my 5.0L so after that I am sure I will be much more receptive.[/quote

    I havea 89 merkur xr4ti running Megasquirt I extra runs fuel&spark w/TFI

    Here have a look :http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2570260

  4. ok From the top:

yes for the m90 but there are a few people with the 03-04 cobra m112 in use.(requires a special lower intake) but Procharger,&Vortec make kits.

The later 99+ blocks have factory main girdles=stronger bottom end.

LOL i'm using a Alsil crossmember!!!!

    For engine managment one word...............MEGASQUIRT!!!!!!

  5. Gollum,I have lots of info on the split port 3.8/4.2l just pm me, Btw the build up cost is less than a ported head stroker zL6 for a forged internal 3.8/4.2l and the sweet thing about it is there are 8 base model v6 mustangs sold for each v8gt which means plenty of spares

  6. I posted this back in march,

and more people have surpassed the 500rwhp

    3.8l Ford Revisited

Just a update for those looking to do this swap.

    1.you want the 99-04 SPI motor from a mustang(or for more cubes a 4.2L from a E or F series)

2.If you have a older 3.8 the intake and heads interchange.

3.the head gasket issues were fixed by the factory by useing MLS gaskets on the SPI motors starting in 1996.

4.In the Mustang the hp was rated@190,but get this the Windstar minivan was rated @200(it has a different intake)

    5.The mounts,trans.choices and assy. are the same as a 5.0L,Moderate aftermarket following(cams,ported heads&intakes,headers,turbo kits,superchargers,pistons,rods,rollerrockers,ect. )

6.You get even better engine setbackand you lose 80 lbs. from a stock 5.0L

    7.There is a stock interenals TT3.8l making 450rwhp!!

BTW good choice on the engine!!!

  8. OK>>>>>Where are you getting your info. from?

The pre roller cam blocks are heavier than the 5.0l blocks (85-99*...5.0l explorer). With the added weight being in the main caps.Prior the the introduction of main cap guirdles for the small block ford, the solution for having better block strenth without shelling out the major bucks for a A4 block was to get a mexican cast 302 block, or find a post 66 289 block for the thicker main strentgh..Granted a non race preped 289,302,5.0l will suffere from crank harmonics and start to crack @7000rpms for a extended time(read road race,or a season of drag racing) Check this link for weights..http://www.team.net/sol/tech/engine.html
