  1. What sort of racing do you want to do? Because mostly a cage will be required and than can be used to stiffen up the body.

Second point, with a seam welded body up to ~300 pound springs can be used and thats plenty, with appropriate ARB's.

Finally, in AU we don't have the sort of rules which enable a S30 to compete with modern cars like in the US.

I am not planning to do any "proper" racing - all I am interested in is just track days so roll cages arent required officially and there will be plenty of more modern cars on the track at the same time. Also I have read somewhere that a cage doesnt stiffen up the body by much - something like only 15% on average which seems quite unrealistic in my opinion plus there are a lot of variables involved - how effective is a rollcage in your opinion? The reason I am intersted in stock chassis is beacuse atm I do not have the funds to get a proper rollcage - still have plenty of other parts to upgrade and fix first. So in your opinion S30 with 300lb springs will be quite competetive? And whats ARB?

And how did your fj20 260 compare to sr20 silvias etc. on the racetrack?

  2. Have been reading a fair bit on springs selection for 240Z and have heard that you can't put really hard springs (more than 5-6 kg/mm spring rates) on these cars because then the chassis itself will start twisting - hence my question - will the preformance of 240Z on a racetrack suffer much from relatively low spring rates and a relatively non-rigid body? Would a well setup 240 with basic suspension mods such as coilovers with say 5kg springs and matched shocks etc. be comepetetive (cornering wise) against cars such as a well setup AW11 MR2 or 240SX with coilovers with higher or same spring rates? How did your cars go against more modern cars on the racetracks?

  3. Been trying to find power figure for F54 L28 with dished pistons and N42 cylinder head running 240Z SUs and Extractors with full exhaust - what sort of power/torque atw can be expected? If noone knows of power/torque for this combination - how much in general can an L28 produce stock or with mild mods at the wheels?

  4. Got a P53 with a random single carb (think its a complete 240K setup) on my project car and since I have no manifold/carb on my new daily driver I was wondering if there is any point in swapping P53 onto daily car or should I just find myself an E88+2xSUs? Any help with P53 knowledge/usability will be greatly appreciated as I have no clue about this set up.

  5. I got an angle grinder and the cheapo 10$ ebay vents, they actually dont look to shabby. I needed a solution for the Houston weather during the summer to cool the temps a little. It will be a temporary solution until I can get my hands on a welder, and attempt something equal to Owens car.

Man, what a NICE front air dam. It makes me want to go out and work on my car right now. It gives me a lot of inspiration to see something as nice and unique as your car,Owen. How many years did it take for you to assemble/build it?

Got a picture with the vents installed?

And thanks a lot for you pictures Owen - I was very eager to see the rest of the car in more detail but could hardly find any photos on the net - I am even more amazed with the car now - I am scared to even think the time you spent on everything to get it to the level where its at now - TOP JOB!!! And I am definitely interested in the set of vents as I have told you earlier.

    Cheers.

  6. What Z ???? Year????

Speaking from experience I don't think that the 19" are a option because of added weight on the corners. It will kill your braking, acceleration and some milage will suffer. I did not want to listen to others and paid 750+ a wheel then tires and after all was said and done I had 4000 into wheels and tires to sell them off a year later....Unless you are a big HP Z then I would not mess with them.. Research unsprung weight and see if that will change your mind...

Its an 1972 240Z. And I am already quite familiar with the concept of unsprung weight. To counter the acceleration loss I am planning to run a higher diff ratio with a 280ZX 5 speed box... dont quite see how it will affect my bracking by any significant amount (the brakes are being upgraded anyways)... and dont really care about milliage; but thatnk you for your concern anyway. Should have also prob mentioned that the car will be running this coilover setup:

  7. Have searched, but gfound nothing - sorry if this has been asked before.

I am planning to run 18 or 19 inch wheels in 9inch width at the front and 9.5 rear and was wondering if these will fit under the stock body with ZG flares or will I have to modify the arches? Is anyone on here running 19s - what width then and how is handling? Offset should not be a problem as I going to order a custom set.

  8. 700hp and a possible bent rod - not that hard to do:shock:

2jz is still the king of inline 6s.

the head has been proffesionally ported and all contact surfaces have been ceramic/DFL coated.

What would the ceramic/DFL coating achieve? Not arguing, just dont quite understand how that will help at all with engine performance?

  9. Coleman Racing has them or there is a guy on ebay that makes them. They're always on ebay and you can pick your thickness and he machines them up.

Is this the guy on ebay that you are talking about?:

Also if you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost you to get those spacers made by Coleman Racing?

  10. I'm looking for the same thing but in the us...there is someone on ebay who makes them...he wants 240.00 for two 20mm and two 30mm...hub and wheel centric...140.00 for just hub centric...anyone w us ideas please post also..thanks

same price for the sizes you need blue leaf...maybe if we bought them together he would cut a better deal..ha

I would be more than happy to organise a group buy with you and anyone else interested:) but lets here what other options we have first.

  11. I am looking at getting some custom wheel spacers made for my 240Z. So far i have decide to use-hub centric bolt on 43mm spacers, but am having some trouble finding someone who would make them or sels them in similar width (anything from 32 to 50mm will do really). So my question goes - does anyone know who would make such spacers? What is the size of the correct centre hole for 240Z?

I am in Australia so an Australian machine shop would be prefered, but I might consider importing the spacers from US depending on price - so throw out your ideas:burnout:

  12. The car gained only 28lbs from the swap. My car has some oversteer but it is a very neutral car. With the ls swap the car is now 50/50 weight balance.

Ok....that sounds too good to be true - only 28lbs.... never thought 13B was so heavy, but i guess you know better here. Nonetheless a great car - congrats!

  13. Thought it might be usefull if we create a database for people to see who is running what and not search through a million pages to find individual threads dedicated to everyones' setup. My L6 setup doesnt deserve its own thread anyway (yet), and I thought I will use it to start off this database. Lets keep it nice and simple and follow this template... also please no discussion here - just specs, again for the ease of use.
