Bloody hell I´ve been missing out on alot here...hehe. Sorry guys, new apartment, new job and a carcrash kinda kept me busy the past weeks... (watch out for yellow semis coming up behind you at redlights...) Timz, amazed with your work. Didnt think anybody would jump on the idea that fast and try it....actually thought I would beat u to it. Please keep us updated.... Worst part is that I dont have much to add at the moment... Timz and Tony D has really kept this thread vibrant. (And as always, exuse my bad english.)

While discussing oil flow and pressure.... I good buddy of mine has a Toyota Celica think its a 76....or some like that...and he´s a frequent drag/trackday driver. The engine is from a Toyota Hiace, a 2.6liter straight four. Turbo converted with oil jets from BMW,the type you machine into your maincap bearings. Not much else done internally than forged pistons and rods. The last dyno sheet said 627bhp at the wheels. (2 bar/30psi of boost Stock oilpump by the way. So what im trying to say is that the jets must be a good way of extracting heat via the bottom of the crown without stressing the water based cooling system... which at thoose levels allready are taking care of alot. So with the oiljets and an oilcooler you have a second system to extract the cylinder heat. Still not saying that coating is bad... but as I see it you need a good cylinderhead/gasket if you make the temperature stay in the top of the engine. And another thing is..... when the coating has worn of you need to recoat them. The oil is easy to change... plus you can easily see if its time to change.... not as easy with the coating. Then we have the topic of too much oil on the cylinder walls.... The jets, as they should work, will not put extra oil on the cylinder walls. Its a directed spray via a valve at higher oil pressuers...the picture is a bottom of a Saab 9000 engine.... damm best turbo engine ever build... And as usual.... exuse my bad english.... hehe

Well as john said a coating on top of a forged piston.....while this could be a good way to make your stock pistons a bit safer at a lower cost. As I said before.... they come stock on modern turbo engines for a reason.

Jupp.... I´ll have a look at it. Just give me a day or to... a buddy of mine has a company that only works with the Saab engines. And if you could take one of thoose scrap blocks and put a drill to... it would be great. Since there just aint no scrap blocks laying arround in this country.... hehe.

Well coating in all its glory... But there must be a reason to why all car builders with good performance turbo engines use them....instead of coating. (Cost and logetivity) Dont know what the cost for coating is around here.... but I bet building oil jets will be cheaper. The ones from BMW is about 14 us dollars a piece (in sweden) times 6.... and the machining.... cant be that much. (Get back to you on that)

Well as the title says..... Has anybody put cooling jets for the pistons in there L28 engine.... like the types in BMW,Saab,Volvo,newer Nissan turbo engines. Its just a thought... considering that the ones from SAAB or BMW comes at no cost at all. (Well at least if live in Sweden). Thinking about doing a turbo conversion....and it whould be a good way to keep the pistons a little bit cooler. But it does require drilling and tapping the enigne block if you use the type from Saab or drilling and tapping the main bearing cap if you use the type from BMW. Most types of oil jet has a valve that opens att a certain pressure, but the question is if the oilpump/flow will be up to the task... so you dont loose the much oil at other areas when they open. And where to drill.... would suck to hit the water areas of the block instead of the oil mains...hehehe Any ideas, previous experiences....? Cheers

Yeah... Been thinking about it the last couple of weeks.... and as you put it, option 1 sounds like the best way to do it. But.... little bit worried valve springs, valve lashes and all thoose little things in the engine head.

Ok... but did you run a stand alone efi or stock? I got a good swedish made system on the shelf, but i dont wanna use it for that car. Its a cruiser....no point of building a 2500$ system in it. : )

Yeah.... im kinda thinking about it...hehe. But dont get me wrong, it works... as soon as you reach about 4500rpm....then the bat out hell finally finds his way out of hell...but theres not much happening below thoose revs. And what bugs me most is that it certenly dont feel like your driving a 2,8 liter engine... more like something in the 1,2 litre range... : )

OK...Here´s the deal... bought the car about a year and a half ago, runs good but idles kinda funny from time to time. Hehe. By the way its a 2080zx -81. After intense investigation it turns out that the previous owner had installed at Schneider 270/280 duration camshaft in it. And it´s all stock EFI, the only thing the guy had done was to make a latch in the distributor, so he could adjust the ignition a bit further.... Further more I have no idea if the valve springs, lashpads or rockerarms are the proper stuff or just stock. I´m pretty certain the only thing he did was to change the cam. So what to do.... Is there a good simple way to make the stock EFI feel some love for the camshaft... (and i dont wanna know what the AFR/ignition values has been) Or should i just drive the crap out of it, it worked last summer, and start rebuilding my spare engine? Cheers from sweden once again.... Speaking of the non turbo block... whats the difference? Does the turbo block have "oil squirters" for the bottom of the pistons?

ah..... now its starting to sound a little more close to the real world. hehe Perfect, cause my plan was to use my Nira I3+ ecu, a proper intercooler in the front, with all the little gizmos from saab when it comes to fuel injectors and such....they work real well with the ecu u see.
