vh series intake and exhaust manifold design...
Hodo replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Other V8Z Tech Board
this is why I am glad I already have one.... LOL.... But I am tempted to spend the extra cash and chip for a Quaf LSD. Now back to the harmonic balancers and timing chain on my engine.... took all the bolts and screws out on monday..... havent touched it since. LOL I am LAZY. -
My next project Vk56de titan engine in a Z32.

I dont mean as no aftermarket support for the VK56DE in general. But For the VK56DE swap. I know there is no support for the VH either for swaps. But there is more support for it than the 56. I love both engines. I find both to be MONSTERs... but to me the VK56DE is what the Big block is to domestics... I will stick with my small block engines. -

Well lets see, VK56DE project has a few minor issues... 1- the VK56DE is EXPENSIVE. 2- NO I MEAN NO aftermarket support for it. 3- Its a great engine.... But its better suited to the trucks, my dad has a Titan, its quick for a truck, but its VERY low end power not much past 4K. -

7200-7500 redline. 500BHP is the goal... I will be happy with 450-500bhp. Its not as a big number as alot of you are making it out to be. Yea sure its all motor, but its also a 4.5L V8, not some 3.0L V6 or a 1.6L I4. With good cams, headwork, better fuel injectors, and larger throttlebodies. And thats not including the ECU remaping and such... But its very likely that high 400s is possible. This is kinda dajavu.... I could have sworn I posted here already.... -

Thats funny everyone says that I must have read motortrend.... LOL I havent seen the older ones. But anyways.. look at the proof of the Z32TT... it too was banned from racing in a league because of the twin turbos.. it was said that it gave them a unfair performance advantage. Ok so the C4 was a good car, but to me the Z32 was better. Like compairing a A6M5 Reisen to a F4U Coursair. Its a matter of oppinion at this point. -

Ok so the C4 from 1986-96 were great cars..... I dont think so. I see more NEW vettes out there than those old ones. Why because the old ones were just that OLD... even when they were new. Nissan's release of the Z32 forced Chevy to come out with a new car. The Z32 TT was the top of the line for sports cars in 1990. Several car companies went back to the drawing boards. Mazda redesigned the RX7 and retired the FC3S and released the FD3S. Toyota retired the MZ MkII supra and put out the classic MKIII Supra (2JZ). Mitsubishi was the only one with a car close to the Z32 and that was the 3000GT VR4. Ford retired the aging Foxbody Mustang and put out the Arnobody Mustang. GM the same with the Firebird/Camaro/TA. The Z32 did exactly what the original S30 did... it changed the face of the sports car market. -
Yes Exactly Thanks Alot!!!!

I have to disagree with some of the points the original poster made about he Z32. The intake is the biggest thing I have to disagree with. The plenum has a purpose other than just being BIG. Its the only intake plenum design that would fit underneith that low slung hood. As a matter of fact I am forced to remake the design for my VH45DE swap to fit it under the hood without cutting or puting a fuggly cowl on the Z32. I agree whole heartedly about the brakes... they are horrible for a vehicle for that size. As for the suspension. Hmm thats one I could say yes and no to. Part of it is very right about the stock suspension. It is very flexible. But when you change over to aftermarket SPL suspension components it fixes alot of the comfirt/performance compermise that Nissan had to come to for that car. With most of those components the Z is VERY predictable to me at the edge. It is all about small movements in it much like fling a fighter jet at the edge of the control. The suspension does a beutiful job of giving me just enough feel/feedback that I know exactly what the road is doing and I am doing on it. And as far as a Z32 for autocrossing.... LOL not built for it. It was built to gun down Corvettes. And that the Twin Turbo did very well in the early 90s. The 'vette was not a autocross car either. It was a sports car. a Highway runner. The Z32 was elevated back to its original target with running down Porche and Jaguars on the Autobahn. The Z32 does extremely well at the Neurburg Ring. Much like the R32-R34 Skyline GTR. Even the godzilla of import cars would suck at a autocross event. Hell even a 250K dollar F50 Ferrari would suck at a Autocross event. And thats with Michael Schumacher driving. The Z32 non-turbo has and leaves MUCH to be desired. But its nothing that 5Gs cant fix. And the ECU well thats a product of the late 80s... you remember the years that brought you Max Headroom and Back to the Future. Duran Duran, Petshop Boys, and Culture Club. Yea the 80s..... Not a good time for electronics. I think when the Z32 was unvieled in 1989 the Commador 128 was still a good computer. 14.4kb modems were NEW and FAST. Cell phones were about the size of a Medium cup from Mcdonalds. And Bush (the first one) was saying "read my lips no new taxes" Ahh..... good times. The same year that the Z32 came out Communism crumbled in Russia and the Iron Curtain came down. The Berlin wall was being torn down after 40+ years of dividing a contry. And the US would have never thought we would be in Iraq, twice. -

I am currently doing a swap myself on a Z32 with a VH45DE. I have found the Z1 modified twin throttlebodies for the 300ZX TT will work for the VH45DE if you make the same type of intake manifold as on the VG30.... except for a V8. The larger throttlebodies would be about a 25-30% increase in airflow over stock. This and matted with 555cc Injectors, and a good equal length header setup you could make good power all motor. But I am still tring to keep my Z looking stock on the outside and streetable daily driver type of car. Not a track star. Just something that can run down a Vette without a turbo. -
I know I seen them somewhere someone had made some mounts and posted the diagrams online. I have been tring to find those diagrams for sometime now. Like a fool I didnt bookmark the page when I saw it. So if anyone has any pics of motor mounts they made for a VH45DE swap in a Z32. Can you post them for me. Thank you very much.

Thanks I will try and do that.

Ok I am new to this forum to some degree. I have read this forum for about a year or so just never bothered to signup or post. But my question is I have a 95 300ZX AT NA I am thinking about doing a engine swap on. But I am haveing some difficulty finding a decent engine. I am looking to most likely do a VH45DE swap and maybe if budget alows TT it. But I am not sure how much more work that would be seeing as I cant find any decent pics of the underside of the VH45DE. I have already decided that the stock intake manifold plenum has to go. I cant have that monster ruining the lines of the Z32. So I will probly have a shop near where I am at do some fab work. Can someone be so kind as to give me a realistic price est. on engine w/ECU and harness. And will the stock engine mount locations work, also can the the stock NA Zs AT work with it, with adapter plate I am sure. Thanks for the help. Eric
