  1. In the electrics wiring chapter of the JTR manual there is a friendly warning phrase that says "if you only do this once, you won't do it again!" with regards to wiring the starter solenoid to the hot side of the iginition. Well, I did it while replacing the battery in my wife's van. "While I'm at it" set in and I was suspecting the starter relay was flaky so I bought a new one of those as well. There are several wires that connect to the 2 posts on the relay and I mis-placed one. Obviously it was the solenoid wire which should be on the side of the relay thats only hot while the switch is in the starting position, not while running. So with its new battery and relay the van (Ford E150 5.8L) starts fine, runs fine, but I hear this noise from somewhere around the bellhousing. Clue #1. I reason This van makes lots of noises (at 200,000 miles) so I ignore it and drive down to the gas station. While driving the AMP meter shows a discharge. Wierd. Clue #2. When I get out of the van I smell a "hot" and "electrical ozone" smell. Ready to go home, hit the key, and the starter spins, but doesn't engage the engine. Fudge. Tried hot wiring across the posts of the relay (getting very familiar with that part), no dice, tried jumping the battery. Nada. Called AAA, waited 2 hours for a tow home. Less than 5 miles, I could have walked, but while waiting I realized what I had done wrong. Too dark to try it in the parking lot anyway SO I wait until Sunday morning. I correctly wire the relay and hope for a miracle. Nope. Take out the battered starter motor, shake it and it sounds like a bag of marbles. For grins I connect it to the battery with the jumper cables still unpacked from the night before. Sure enough the motor spins AND the solenoid clicks but something is seriously shredded between the motor shaft and the gear. Teeth on the ring gear are OK, I count my blessings and carry the old motor into Advance Auto parts and buy a reman starter for $73. My Explorer still smells like toasted bakelite.
  2. I fitted (but never ran) a Saginaw 4spd in my '77 280Z. Behind a SBC V8, in the "JTR set back, and slightly to the passenger's side position". I had to move the shifter back 6-to-8" from the stock position (was originally in a '79 Olds 442 with a bench seat) using a 1/4" steel plate and extended the 3 shifter rods with lengths off threaded rod. This put the shifter right in the stock hole.
  3. Challenge my memory here, I think 351 Cleveland has the upper radiator hose coming from the block, not the front of the intake manifold. The 351W is like the 302, the radiator hose comes off the thermostat housing on the front of the intake manifold. This makes them easy to spot in the JY. ^^ 351C Torino / Mustang intake ^^
  4. The bracket in this photo looks like it tucks the cylinder pretty close to the bellhousing. It might be proportioned for a shorter clutch throwout lever. Good thing about a shorter arm is it requires less stroke from the slave and you can use a smaller diameter master which equals less pedal effort.
  5. your 260Z was built in Japan, in late 1973.

  7. 84-86 have thinner, SOLID and 87-89 have a thicker, VENTED rotor. Requires a wider caliper body.
  8. The current issue of Kit Car Builder magazine has a story on Scorpion Z Car's GTO replicas....
  9. Engineer. How I got here: High School 1981 Associate in Art & Graphics Design 1983 Bachellor of Engineering 1986 Master of Engineering Technology 1988 Entered the corporate world July 25, 1988... 18 1/2 years later, Still have the same job function: making consumer products' packaging graphics' "printable" on high speed, long run, printing presses. Dead man walking 2007 What do I do? I "Act". It seems like every word I say or action I do I have to carefully think over to make sure it's the expected behavior. I haven't been able to be myself in years. This Makes me think this isn't the best job for me but I'm stuck doing this now. My boss is great, the people are great, not a lot of turnover so I've made lasting friendships. Unless they are all "Actors" too....
  10. Maybe that's what mine is, does this sound like a T-50? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=87992 We also tossed around this '70's 5 speed thread.... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=71619
  11. How about using a Supra Disc and Tranny with the 300ZX clutch plate?
  12. I've got a B&W NWC T5 for a '84 300ZXT if anyone needs one.
  13. Anyone else like OLD Jags? I must be getting ignorant and tunnel vision 'cause this one bugs me: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/One-of-a-Kind-1972-Jaguar-Cobra-Teaser-Movie-Car_W0QQitemZ220070466488QQihZ012QQcategoryZ7251QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Not so much the design and build, but the way the seller wrote up the advertising: Sure, its a "movie prop", and it offers the "Look" of an XJE. First of all the model....What is an XJE? I know of the '62-'73 XKE, often called the E-type. I know it's not supposed to be a true replica I just think if you were deviating from the orginal car, at least make it better. Construction critique follows: I do give the BUILDER props for creativity with the exhaust manifolds. I see 2 radiator caps, understandable, but both at the same water level? Radiator might be from a Mazda donor. Then there is that widscreen rake is that '55 Chevy glass? Indianapolis racing chassis aren't box tube steel, don't have Pinto front suspensions, and the engines aren't in the front....(sigh, whine, grumble)
  14. That looks like the ULTRA-RARE Nalle Daytona Cobra "replica" kit. Member Vinh here is an expert. That 289 is a good choice for a Cobra replica.
  15. I can't wait until this year's Barret-Jackson auction. Every spring the local Trading Post ads turn pre-'75 barn-stash-discovery into a unique, priceless, classic.
  16. $400 for my 280Z, with a rod knock and solid floors.
  17. I got the 2nd and 3rd BTTF DeLorean time machines. 1:24 scale. Gave my wife a Kitchen Aid mixer. We're easy to please.
  18. Dad was active USAF from '52-'56. I thought that was "it" until we were making future arrangements (he's very much alive, and not a procrastinator) at the Veterans' cemetery. Learned he was in the reserves until '66! also learned that rank held in '56 follows him to the grave, and determines where his plot is.
