  1. I'd bet money that you CAN tune the F20C. BTW, piggyback systems work in a variety of ways, and might just be acting as a programmable EPROM, which means you're pretty much just tuning the OEM ECU to your own specs.

Almost all ECU's are tunable, it's just a matter of what it takes. If it requires burning new chips for every tune, then that's what you do.

Well a piggyback, yes. For a piggyback I would suggest emanage ultimate, BUT it's very limited since the f20 ECU absolutely can NOT be flashed. The piggybacks would be great for NA, but major mods like ITBs or stroking would really require a full ECU upgrade. Any FI more than seven or eight pounds would require a new one also.

I know this for a fact as I owned one for a couple years. 05 and under are SOL on flashing their ECUs. I'm not going to look for documentation to prove it, but you may notice on hondata's site that there is no hondata flash for 05 and under. "current only K20A, K20A2, K20A3, K24A2-TSX ECUs and 06 F22 S2000 ECUs can be re-flashed)"

A great site to do your f20c research on would be s2ki.com. Here's a link to "The official NA tuning/I want 230whp NA" thread: http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=336978&st=0

This thread has all your NA tuning needs as far as documentation goes.

  2. First off, the K24 has more displacement, and secondly, many honda guys say the K series is the best 4 cylinder honda has ever made. It's head flows extremely well.

If you're gonna get 250hp to the wheels in a F20C you're going to need to port the head, get new cams, retune the ECU, supporting intake, exhaust and fuel mods as well.

You'll end up spending at least what you spent on the motor, probably more. Now you're looking at having probably 7k+ into the motor, and you could have just gotten a VQ35 which weighs about the same, sits farther back, but will put nearly 250hp down stock.

And I still think that it'd be hard to get it to 250HP on pump gas. You can't tune right to the edge with pump gas because you have to factor in the inconsistancy of pump gas out there, so you're leaving performance on the table for safety. Now, if you're running race gas all the time, sure you can run 12:1 or higher compression all day long and make an extra 20% power. I bet even on a completely stock F20C just tuning the ecu for 110 octane would get you 10% extra power.

But that's just speculation, something not seen in a very good light here on HZ so i'll just knock it off now.

EDIT: Oh yea, and the guy thinking about doing this is in napa isn't he? So he has to deal with 91 octane, not 93 like much of the country.

sry for the double post, but you can't tune the f20c ECU. Do you mean an AEM EMS? That's the way to go for these as the 2006+ model is the only ECU that can be flashed and, of course, that's a f22c. Other ECUs like the Mugen and Spoon are outfitted for Japanese spec s2000s which have differences like compression ratio. I believe it's 11.7:1 in Japan in stead of our 11.2:1 in the US.

  3. An SR20de has less torque (30ft/lbs less) than a F20c

Yeah I should've clarified. I did mean the turbo engine.

But if you're set on a f20c swap... PM me and I can help you out. I've had a lot of experience with the engine and which mods get the best bang for their buck.

My preference for a track f20c = Supercharged :burnout:

  4. I think the F20C would make a great motor for a track car that weighed near 2000lbs. They can make 250whp very easily.

A stock f20c will put AT MOST 205 whp or so. How is it easy to squeeze out 50 more in an all ready tuned out engine?

There's a thread on s2ki.com dedicated to attempting to get this engine at 230whp and it's hard for sure.

    250 = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  5. I owned a 2001 s2000 and it was pretty quick for the 6 speed 2860 lbs car....4.10 fd I think. Anyway...no torque. I own a 240z w/ a l28et and um....man you should stay nismo. The f20c is impressive, but it's meant to be NA and turbo applications are extremely expensive and you pretty much have to build the whole thing to turbo it past say 400 hp. The gas consumption isn't great either and the 30 mpg is bs. I've turboed a friend's s2000 and it was a 2000, but we had so many problems and drawbacks with the electronics and tuning that I wouldn't have done it myself, I would've hung it up and sold it. If you are looking for a forced induction option on a f20c, I suggest you supercharge it.

Aside from all this, the best 4 cyl option I'd say is a sr engine imho.

oh and um...I have a f20 transmission and a complete block and I did not read through all these pages of posts so sorry if I repeated...lazy.

  6. I did a search, but couldn't find any alignment settings. This is my first Z and the first alignment I've done after a complete front suspension rebuild. I wanted to take it to a shop to have everything dialed in, but I'm pretty sure the computers at about any alignment shop don't have a '70 model car in them. If you know your personal specs and they're not some crazy aggressive autox settings, I could use that too. (I'm buying a manual soon, promise!)

    Thanks everyone!

  7. I have conquest/starion wheels on my Z, but I bought it that way.

The front hubs are supposed to be from the conquest and the rear from a 300zx. I currently have crystalized brake pads up front and the conquest pads I've bought do NOT work. idk what to do!!!! = /

But anyway, they looks good I think. I have fiberglass flares on my z, but they're just for looks. The stock fenders were not cut to fit them on. I'm running 245 nitto extreme drags on the back too.

  8. My gauges are just....ick.

I bought a '70 240z and the tach/boost gauge is autometer, but the rest are stock. They barely light up too....not to mention the speedo reads 33 mph high and jumps up and down, lol.

I've got some work to do, but this thread gave me some good ideas. Looks great everyone!

  9. I think it's retarded for someone to do any illegal substance out in the open and if they're dumb enough to flaunt it around they deserve getting caught.

If someone did that and when I said something they barked a bitchy comment back to me, I would do one (or all) of the following:

    A) Attach a thick rubber glove to their exhaust with a metal tie and write ' If I smell that ♥♥♥♥ in my household again, you're ass is busted.' on it. (After the loud boom, they'll investigate and piece it together to read this.)

    B) Put a ping pong ball in their gas tank.

    C) Put on my old ninja halloween costume and go out at night when I smelled the smoke and throw a smoke grenade in the window. (Remember, they won't call the cops b/c their paranoid and probably doing meth too. So basically, you're good.)

    D) All of the above.

Remember all, I have nothing against the consumption of marijuana in any form. I just hate stupid people....

  10. I've heard from another Z owner that Balanced did well with his car, but they took twice as long and ended up charging him way more than they quoted.

Goza I've yet to check out, but I'll give them a call.

What about shops in NC? My parents still live in Charlotte and I'm usually in that area once a month.

Anyway, I appreciate the info guys!

  11. my 70 240z has over 300,000 miles on the bottom end and has been running at 340hp/402 ft lbs @ 20 psi on c16 and maybe a bit more on special occasions consistently for six years. It smokes off and on at idle and I figure it's past time to get the block rebuilt. I've yet to decide on pistons and all, but I was wondering who uses what shop here in Georgia.

Any help on finding someone reliable, fast, and relatively okay on pricing is greatly appreciated.

l28et/p90 never rebuilt with 300k+ miles.

(Sidenote: compression is well within factory specs! Amazing eh?)
