  1. That's a sketchy ad. The S31 VIN prefix means it's a '76-78 car, definitely not a 1970. I hope he has receipts for all he says he's done...

Yea true. The body styling doesn't look like an S30 either. The headlights have the newer S31 look.

Thanks Datsun63 for the link and thanks Leon for the input

  2. So I am trying to find a RHD S30 so I can swap in an RB26DETT. I know there is clearance in the engine bay if I go LHD (seen it done here on this forum) but I live in the Cayman Islands and we drive on the left here. Also, I'm more partial to JDM anyway.

The search is still on for a RHD Z but I thought up something and wanted some opinions/facts.

From 280zjoel's topic about conversions (http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/84244-how-to-do-a-rhd-conversion/page__p__798333__hl__%2Brhd+%2Bconversion__fromsearch__1#entry798333) I will need these things:

    Dash board

    Heater and fan Assembly

    Rack and Pinion

    Steering shaft

    Brake Lines

    Wiper arms

    Wiper motor

    Wiper Linkage

    Pedal Assembly

I've read the turning radius on a Z is less than adequate for certain applications and saw a few things on here about Subaru/Mazda steering columns. If I wanted to replace the Z steering with with one of these, I wouldn't need the RHD steering from an S30 correct? That is to say if I just modify the firewall on a LHD Z to accommodate the right hand steering rack of one of these other cars. Or is it that I will still need RHD steering components from a Z?

The next question is the pedal assembly. Are there other JDM pedal assemblies that can fit the Z in case I decide to go with a LHD shell and convert it?

I know that there maybe something I'm missing or forgetting, and I might be sounding really dumb to some of you guys right now, but the idea just popped into my head last night and I wanted to get some outside opinions.

  3. No they are not the same car! You would have to cut the complete firewall out and weld it back into the LHD car! I am helping a friend do a Ferrari convertible kit to RHD. He already had the car stripped and media blasted. The firewall is not even close to the same for mounting the dash or steering or pedals.

Kool kool...I didn't think so. Is that your Fairlady I see on Craigslist now?

  4. you could try searching all u.s. cities craigslist. link here http://allofcraigslist.com/

or what i've been seeing is people converting solid rust free LHD cars into RHD. on craigslist there is a 77 rhd 2+2 for 400$ that has the firewall and

dash parts that you would need.

here is a link to whats involved in the conversion. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/84244-how-to-do-a-rhd-conversion/

i have also seen rhd conversions done without the complete firewall transplant. much easier but i have no links

i believe they just cut out the area of firewall where the steering column is and transplant it to the

    other side.

Is it possible to use parts from a RHD 2+2 and transplant them to the LHD 2 seater? Are these parts identical even though the model is a bit different?

Thanks for the links. I looked through all of craigslist about a month ago, still waiting on some of the replies. I'm looking for the 2 seater version though. Not really too fond of the 2+2 lol

  6. When i first start looking for a z i had 3 options, usa spec lhd 73 240z, jap spec rhd 81 280zx 2+2, and a jap spec rhd 71 240z. i chose the 73 because the other two were not running. After i put a hole in the 240z block i bought the rhd 280zx and put the motor into my 73 then sold the shell to a guy from sacramento i believe. The 71 rhd 240z is still were it has been and will be there until i buy it. But sorry i do not know where you cant find one.

I'm not sure I understand this post...are you saying that the RHD Fairlady is still waiting for you and only you to buy it? And you do not know where I can or can't find one?? I created this post so people on the forum could give me pointers or help me in my search for a RHD Z, not to tell me they know where one is but that I can't get it...useless info to me

  7. Thanks for the post spitz

Yea...I saw two for sale on a Japan site and one was a little over $9,000 and the other was $14k. They were in good condition but I really am only looking for a shell. Is the HS30 just the S30 sold in Europe or are there differences between them and other S30's?

I see under your post it says 1972 Fairlady Z / RHD. Does that mean you have a RHD Z?

  8. Bump...is it really this hard to find a right hand drive Z?? I've been looking all over the internet...Japan, England, Australia, New Zealand. Found a couple but they are either out of my price range or the seller has not responded. Desperately looking for a nice S30 Fairlady Z to put my RB26 in...please don't let my location turn you off of a possible sale as I am willing to travel to the US or Canada to to secure one.

  9. On the lookout for a right hand drive S30 model ('70-'79 Fairlady Z coupe). I am located in the Cayman Islands but have no problem making a trip to the US or Canada if need be. I want it to put an RB26 in it so engine condition is not important. Looking for minimal to no rust on the body. Would like a decent interior but this is not as crucial as the body.
