  1. I have an L28, once bored over with triple weber40s, with 36mm choke carbs. I would like to max out my compression and air flow. I've since bought an E88 head, ported and shaved .06mm, with over-sized SS valves and a MSA stage V (560 lift) cam. The combustion chamber on the head has been "eyebrowed", or ground out to accommodate the valve clearance. I know I will have to shim the cam tower to adjust the timing chain to the shaved head. My questions are: Can I use a 1mm metal head gasket to maximize my compression? If so, will I have to "eyebrow the cylinder wall and/or the piston to make room for the over-sized valves. If so, how can you tell?
  2. I bought a 4.11, R180 on Ebay, replaced the bearings and it's making a nasty whine, especially under load at high speeds. I've replaced all the u joints and mustache bar bushings, also the rear wheel bearings, so I'm thinking that maybe the rear end may need to be shimmed to tighten the gears up. 'Specially 'cause I've also got a nasty clunk when I tap the accelerator in second gear. So, my question is ('cause I've never problem-solved a rear end problem before)- my questions are: how can I tell if shimming is necessary, or even possible? Will it solve the problem? Should I just hire a professional?
