  1. Alan, That is great info. None of the drawers have bearing sliders. They are all friction but move freely with no hitches or anything. None of them are tweeked or anything so it looks like it was well taken care of. All 3 locks match the same key and the 3 keys look original. The boxes were stacked when I took them. I will put them back together after it gets cleaned and de-greased. That will be easier with the top box off. I bet the top alone weighs close to 100 lbs. It is a bear. Thanks again for the info. Very cool that this set may be over 25 years old. Tom

Depending on whether they have roller bearing slides. Pre 1985 I would say they won't have sliders. Post 1985 most top line boxes had roller bearing sliders. Guys at the dealer had boxes in this style as early as 1982.

The top and bottom would have been stacked. From what I remember not counting the side cabinet these would have cost about $2k or so in 1983.

    Hope that helps.

  2. I just scored these Snap-On boxes from Craigs yesterday and I was wondering if anyone has any clue how old they are? The guy was not the original owner and claimed he has had them for over 10 years. From the shop I removed them from it looks like he has had them for at least that long. I was not even in the market for a new tool box set up but for $350, I even drove 60 miles to get them after the guy sent me the pics. These things are heavy. From the Nascar stickers, it looks like they are from the 80's. The top box is KR-550B and the Bottom is KR-555B....You guys seen any like this? I think I did good considering there are not really any dents. Just really dirty.

  3. Actually it's faster for me. Might be some other factor. What browser are you using?

I am using FF and the page loading is much slower than before for me as well. The background color change Dan posted is much better....

  4. Lust for the Countach is age dependant. Guys in their mid to late 30's and early 40's remember "Cannonball Run" and the Countach posters with the girls leaning on it. Usually it was on the wall next to the Led Zeppelin black light posters. You had to be there to understand. Of course beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

    Bingo!

  5. The dealer in town is completely out for the foreseeable future of both the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and 650R, so this is pretty much a used bike issue.

I am 6'1" and 265 lbs., would the 250R be just to little for me? The used bike prices on both are not that far down from MSRP, ~$3000 for a several year old, good condition 250R, $5000-6500 for a 650R. I do have $1500 in cash, and my credit is right on 730 from all four agencies. I would rather not get the 250R, and in a few months discover that it has no further interest to me, nor would I like to spend more than I need to, and get a 650R.

Opinions? A good forum to ask this in?

I did go to all the dealers in town, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and test sat on the relevant bikes. The SV650S has to great a forward lean, and I didn't really get into the SV650. The foot pegs were a bit odd if I remember right. The GS500 seemed ok, but if not a 650R then why not go all the way down to even better mpg and handling in the 250R? I really liked the FZ6, then looked into insurance, mileage, etc., and found that it was a super sports bike in disguise. And Honda doesn't seem to make anything to my interest. The 919 feels like a dream, but once more, it is a super sports bike in drag.

Gas is killing me, and yes, I know it will take some time to make enough savings in gas to compensate for the bike, but I've had enough paying $4.69 a gallon for my Honda.

No love for the 500R? Great starter bike IMO. First street bike I ever drove. If I was in it for the gas savings only, I would try to pick up a late model 500R for under 3k. Now if you have to have to coolest, best riding, fastest, whatever, maybe it wouldn't do.

  6. I didnt say anything about what he did being safe, just I was amazed he stated that publicly. I just thought it was a little harsh.

And honestly, I doubt jeff is the craziest driver on the roads, If I didnt want a family membe driving next to jeff I doubt Id want my family member driving period.

I don't mean anything personal towards jeffer. I am just looking at the facts as he posted now and prevoiusly. We have all done crazy things on the roads that we should not have done, although I would hope that most never lost it and took other cars out!

    Tom

  7. Wow...

Would you want your family driving down the highway next to jeffer? Your wife? Your kids? Your parents? Say what you want bro, guys that have a history of accidents and then lose it when crossing 3 lanes of traffic on an interstate are going to get flamed.

I say "Wow" because it has not happened in this thread up until now.

    Tom

  8. I was driving down the interstate going about 75 and i changed 2 lanes and when i corrected to go straight again my back end broke loose(it was wet). Tried to steer into it and power it out but the roads where to slick and i drifted across 3 lanes and hit a Mazda 6 in the rear passenger door. That spun him out and put him into a slide and sent him back across 3 lanes and into the grass just missing a big sign

It kinda looks like what the devil Z looked like the first time it hit the guard rail lol.

Hopefully the folks you hit are okay too. I think you need to take it easy and not kill anyone on the highway.

    Tom

(hopefully my comment didn't come off like I am being a d!ck, I'm just saying!)

  9. They seem to be taking over my backyard lately.

If you really want them gone due to kids, pets, etc, get 'Cyper WP'. It has Cypermethrin. You mix the powder with water in any 1-2 gallon sprayer and hit any areas where you think they hang out. It kills them in a few minutes and keeps killing for a few weeks. I found several kinds of powdered cypermethrin online, but none of them would ship to SC (or several other states for some reason I can't remember). Cyper WP is the same or better than other brands but is much cheaper. I found it on ebay and they shipped it to SC no problem.

I did the research last summer when my 2.5 year old daughter picked up one of her sand box toys and the biggest black widow I have ever seen fell across her arm and on to the ground. My wife actually had to knock it off of her and wasn't sure at first if it bit my daughter. She called me at work and was so upset (ready to call 911) I had to take the rest of the day off. She put a cup over the top of it because she wasn't sure if it really was a black widow. The rear end of this thing was bigger than a nickel and with legs it was more than 2 inches across. After seeing it, I started looking around and killed about 15-20 within an hour or so. All of them were on egg sacks so I knew that those 15-20 wouldn't even make a dent. After I got the Cyper, I did 3 treatments at double strength in one week (they recommend once every 3 months for spiders). A week after that, I couldn't find one spider, or bug or ant, or anything. I have done 2 treatments this year already. I hate killing all these bugs, but I don't have any choice with small kids. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't even bother. When they get older and more aware, I will stop spraying.

Edit: This stuff will kill fish so if you have a pond or anything like that, beware.....

  10. I got rear ended in my z last year, I know how you feel man, it sucks.

In my opinion the stock brake lights on 240's are awful in terms of brightness. For you guys that daily drive your cars, you should consider LED's or a "higher" inside glass 3rd brake light as long as it doesn't look cheesy.

    Tom

  11. That's supremely impressive besting a gt3.

If I walked on a lot and could pick a brand new GT-R or a brand new GT3 (cost not a factor) and could only pick one, I would probably take the Penis car!

You have to admit that the gap has closed though. It seems like the GT-R is very forgiving and you know Nissan's are durable (at least the non-super car Nissan's are!)

  12. The reward was that he flew in two weeks ago and announced that the corporation has decided to close my plant and I'll be unemployed sometime this summer. Ain't it great?

What a shame. Sounds like you have a contingency plan, so hang in there bro. It is good to have something to fall back on. I admire the fact that you are going to hang with your folks at work. Most would not. In my situation with young kids, I would be forced to take an opportunity elsewhere.

I think this country is headed for recession and $4 a gallon gas this year. The whole current economic situation in the US is far worse than what started in early 2000. Not trying to take away anything from anyone who suffered on 9/11, but economically, the issues we have right now have teeth. With all the foreclosures and home prices falling by the month (for most), the next few years might be tough. Add to that, energy and food prices rising more the last year than they have the previous 10 years and you have an ugly picture. Disposable income is disappearing for the middle class. Everyone should cross their fingers (at least everyone with a 401k) that all the financial institutions can cover these bad mortgages. The first one that comes out and says they can’t is going to tank the market big time. I have been trading in and out of my company stock and funds since last October. If I would have held everything as it was, I’d be down over 30k. It took me 3 years to get back what I lost in 2000 and 2001 and that is all I have. Buy and hold is a joke, even with dollar cost averaging.

  13. I thought about getting into it.. I reserched and found that the easystar is a awesome plane .. electric motor,, awesome range and very controlable. There are some people who put mini cams in them and it looks really neat..

The EasyStar is great. I have a "stock" one that has over 450 flights on it. It is pretty beat up now but flew fantastic up until the day I retired it and hung it in my office at work. I got a new one with a brushless mega a few years back. It is sick. I can fly it inverted 3 ft off the ground at about 50-60! That is no big deal for most electrics but that is quite a feat for a glider with no ailerons. A few called bs on RCG, but they got the video!

Cyg, you will love the EZ Glider. The only problem is that it glides forever making it hard to land. It is very easy to overshoot your intended landing. Multiplex makes great models.

I lost count of how many planes I have. Probably 35 that are RTF and 20 waiting to be built. I haven't built one in months though. Too busy at work, kids, etc. Got wings, bipes, gliders, scale, 3D, big and small. Plus the EDF bug bit me last year. Talk about a hoot to fly. The speeds of electrics are getting up there.

  14. Hey Tdab,

Sorry to be so harsh on your home town but I was just giving my honest opinion - I don't like it there at all.

What high school did you go to? I went to Northwestern and escaped -er- graduated in 1978. :-)

I didn't even see your reply! Oh well.. I will check it out later. I also went to Northwestern, then Winthrop.

You may know my uncle Curt Anderson? I think he went to Northwestern and graduated in 78 also, not sure. He is retired Air Force now, works for the PO in York.

Rock Hill was/is pretty much a hick town. York was the fastest growing county in SC the last 5-6 years. Didn’t do any good though. Just made it more expensive. Almost moved back there last year and was going to commute to Columbia everyday. Made the drive a few times....screw that. Moved just north of Columbia. Now I have big brand new house with all the extra's. You name it, all tile, granite, brand new appliances, smooth ceilings, hardwoods for days, garage, irrigation (on well), 4 bedrooms plus bonus and great schools. If I told you what I paid for it, you would say it is a lie! Got a $2500 rebate too. We did our homework and decided living in the woods was the way to go.

Did you ever cruise Cherry Road back in the day? Fun times man, fun times.

    -Tom

  15. I was born and raised in Rock Hill (about 10 miles due South of Charlotte). Grew up on Lake Wylie. Great place back in the day, but IMO too expensive now. The land we sold on the Lake a few years ago (5 acres) has about 8 homes on it now and 500k wouldn't even sniff the smallest one.

I also spent about 8 years in Gaston County. Great schools, good bang for the buck. Check into it with your agent. Everyone around here thinks that there is no "upscale" in Gastonia. All you hear is redneck city! LOL! Let them keep thinking that. The schools are better than Charlotte and cost of living is not bad. Anyway, I would have NEVER moved from there except that I was offered a position near Columbia, SC last year. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. They did the relocation and gave me a salary that I never thought I would make (before I turned 40 years old anyway!). My wife was able to quit work and stay home with our kids, so everything is working out okay now.

If you don't mind a short drive and want to get acreage and a house, I would check into York (SC), Clover (SC), and Gaston (NC) counties. They are close enough that you will not have a long commute but your money will go a long way. Also check Fort Mill, SC and Waxhaw, NC. Any good agent from here should know all those areas. I spent over 20 years working in Charlotte and never lived there. I never would. Traffic can be a big problem in/around Charlotte. Ask these questions before you buy.

Send me a PM or shoot me an email if you need anything or have any questions. I'm about 50 miles down I-77 now, but a lot of my family are still in the area.

    Tom
