  1. It could be residual oil, from the block or the cylinder head bolts, that is my guess since there is not much indication where you exactly see the oil and do not know what you have whether it be rebuilding the whole motor or just installing a new head, if i was to take a guess it should be fine as long as you torque everything to spec.,
  2. ok looking at ms3 setups, want to control as much as possible with ms3 have gm iat and ect sensor and map daddy 4 sensor from diyauto tune, looking at getting a board that needs assemblying option #1 http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/ms330k-kit-with-mapdaddy4-upgrade-p-514.html or option #2 which im leaning towards http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirtiii-wpcb-v30-unassembled-kit-with-black-case-p-419.html maybe even an assembled units option #3 http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirtiii-ems-system-v357-assembled-unit-black-case-p-420.html or option #4 which will be leaning towards in the assembled direstion http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirtiii-ems-system-with-ms3x-expansion-v357-assembled-p-435.html and will be looking at somehow putting a cam sensor in
  3. Ok tb spacer ordered now i need a tb from a 240sx pls help ty
  4. Pls pm if you have one for sale, ty
  5. First I would like to thank everyone for helping me out, i am in the midst of gathering all the parts i need for the basic turbo swap just to get it moving on the road, any and all links you guys supply to help with info will be read carefully, i am the midst of looking for injectors, i will be eventually getting a megasquirt system, i will be using a stock 81 turbo with n42 intake bored out to 60mm and 240sx tb, with a p79 cylinderhead with a stock cam, i plan on using the supra 440cc injectors but was wondering if anyone is using a resistor pack for they can create some heat? and my second question is if anyone knows where to get the 240sx tb adapter plate with a port designed into it for a possible cold start and/or map sensor
  6. its OK that is why i am trying to find as much info as i can to help decide what the best path i should take before i get anymore parts for spark and timing control.
  7. so if i read your reply correctly it would be easier to install a turbo 82-83 dizzy instead of getting the 81 components i still need, (and also from what i read from continuing to read the rest of the forum)
  8. found this posted by cgsheen But, straighten this out first: - You have a 1981 L28ET? (1981 280ZX Turbo engine) - Is has the EXTERNAL Crank Angle Sensor bolted to the front drivers side of the engine and wiring that goes up between the dizzy and t-stat housing (round 4-prong connector)? - Your ECCS (ECU-to-engine) harness is from a 1981 280ZXT and it has a dropping resistor pack? - Your ECU is from a 1981 280ZXT? - Are you sure the oil pump is stock 1981? (since the dizzy isn't there, post a picture of the "hole" it goes in - to make sure someone else hasn't already modded the engine to accept an '82-'83 distributor) If it's ALL stock 1981, then you need an '81 dizzy (which is essentially a body, cap and rotor - it doesn't do anything except distribute spark. Doesn't have any other electronics as the CAS is external and the ECU controls the Ignitor/Coil on this thread http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/108019-distributor-question-for-81-l28et/?hl=turbo+distributor&do=findComment&comment=1010381
  9. no but can take some later i had bought it from datsun_z240 last month, but when i looked at it i did not see any place for a connector on it, and i keep reading that it has a external cas that reads off the crank pulley
  10. i have read that the 81 turbo distributor doesn't have a crank sensor inside it.
  11. oil thrower? haven't heard of that part in my search yet.
  12. im just trying to find out what would be easier to do, install my 81 turbo dizzy and get a crank pulley and sensor for it, or cut my loss and by the 82-83 turbo dizzy and shaft, unless the 81 turbo shaft would work?
  13. ok ty and on the dizzy shaft for the 82-83 turbo would i have to take the front timing cover off to change the gear thats on the crankshaft or is it like plug and play?
  14. you think its possible to use the advance with the mega squirt system without locking the dizzy and have it work fine? just came to mind and hows this for disassemble and recondition? http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html
  15. ok, i have been searching the forums for any thing that could help out before i get ahead of myself, no luck yet and also using google.
  16. from what i recall it doesn't show how to disassemble the distributor but ill look when i get home
  17. the problem for me isn't what to use to lock the mechanism but what exact part and how to access.
  18. ok that makes it easier cause i would like to control it by computer (ms) is their a link on how to lock the advance mechanisms on the n/a dizzy (for temporary use)
  19. ok i have a stock n/a 79 280zx would it be easier to install the 79 distributor for my turbo build or get the 81 crank angle sensor and install it or even get the 82-82 dizzy, i will be using the megasquirt wiring.
  20. ok i have been trying to find anythreads for the ignition timing but have not been able to find any threads at the moment any help would be good, planning to use the megasquirt wiring, and looking at possibly a crankshaft sensor, have 81 turbo distributor, thank you for help any other advise would bee appriciated, building motor with wiring outside of vehicle then installing.
  21. thank you for response gollum, its is my only car so i would be building the motor outside than swapping in, im goin to stick with the l28et, i would of course be driving it daily but would like decent power for the track, both 1/4 mile and drifting, i would be using an f54 block out of my 82 with a p90a cylinder head eventually, could use some advise on what would be good to keep connected to intake manifold when it comes to vacuum, and of course locating parts.
  22. thank you for the advise, it has helped i will just stick with turbo my n/a, just not sure about the build yet, thinking for internals so far is dished pistons and the p90a head, i read up that the intake doesn't matter much though but im worndering about the block i know the f 54 block has webbing to help strengthen the motor but would it make a difference for the n42 block? all suggestions for the build will be appriciated, thank you for your time everybody.
  23. any suggestions on swapping these motors into a datsun compared to building a non turbo 79 280zx n/a motor to turbo?
