  1. The 240 is spray painted all over... over rust... in the engine bay (literally everything is just sprayed black)... the inside of the side windows are even spray painted lol. Every wheel well rotting out. Those flairs are ebay flairs that dont fit, they're hanging off... Red stripe is tape... The car isn't lowered, the shocks just went out. Whole thing is pretty much a mess.

I'm starting to consider looking all over craigslist for one to be shipped, not quite there yet though-- looking to buy one in the next ~1.5 months

Sounds like you got a steal to me, pretty much what i'm looking for, something to run while I work on it.

  2. Nope still looking in this area for now, thinking about going to look at http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/3655270465.html that, but the tick and a few other things have me kind of worried for a price tag of 5k

May have found a lead on a cheap, running, modded series 240z. I'll keep you guys posted

Anything come of that? I went to look at http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/3655215308.html and it was a complete bust.

  3. That orange Z is gorgeous. Might end up having to get one shipped against my judgement ^^

I've been looking for a cheap 240z for here for a while now as well. I did see that post (I think). Honestly, since I came from cali, and I know what I can get in Cali, and I make the drive from cali like 4 times a year, I will probbaly end up buying a Z out there for much cheaper with a rust free body.

Car buying in general in FLorida seems to be a joke.

  4. Seller told me he's no longer selling because of spammers and scammers... Gonna edit out the link and keep looking I guess... If anyone has one in the area feel free to msg me. Thanks

If youre not happy with selection in florida look elsewhere. I went to Cali to get mine...long way to go for a Datsun, but $800 shipping was a lot easier than cutting out rust and welding in new metal...

This one doesnt seem bad, always expect it to be worse than represented, but its worth a look.

I most likely will end up doing something like this, I just don't like buying a car I havent seen at all-- and the upfront money I have would take a cut, I'd be using upfront savings and then a pizza delivery (big stuff) salary to fund repairs/resto/mods over time. I didn't really want to but it might be the best way at this point.

  5. Lol prices here in FL are sooooooo wrong. There are "restored" cars going to ludacris amounts of money. I bought my first Z when I was 17 for $5000 and I had no trouble with at all. IT was a perfect daily and even had AC.

If you have the time, I would look for Z's in CA or AZ for $3-4k, then either pay to have it shipped or fly out there and drive it yourself.

You can always ask a member on here to check out a Z for you.

As for what to look for it is covered on this site.

    -no rust

    -completely working electrical

    -no overheating

Someone told me once that if a Z will run and drive for 30min on the highway/street it will make it cross country.

There are barely any down south for sale T_T, I'm doing a 750mi radius craigslist search but I might have to end up buying on the west coast. Prices are almost always way too high.

I'll probably post some links when I find one I'm interested in and ask if it seems worth it, but from the sentiment in this thread it seems like I should be able to get what I'm looking for at the price I want.

  6. Take your time and shop around. Check all of the systems. A clean unmolested electrical system is a plus.

Buy this book if you intend on owning a 240Z,260Z or 280Z: How to Restore your Datsun Z-Car by Wick Humble. It explains, in detail, how to completey take apart and re-assemble a 240Z etc. Available at Motor Sports Auto (MSA), Amazon (cheaper) or at Black Dragon. This book will save you hours of research. It will also give information on what to look for when buying a Z car.

Thanks, I'll buy it now actually

  7. Hi, I'm looking to buy a Z for my first car, and I want some advice on what I should be looking for/what I can afford. I live in Florida, I have a ~$5000 budget, and the car will be a daily driver (I currently drive my dad's C3 Vette). I've been lurking at a few Z forums for the past few months and I think I'll take the plunge soon.

I really don't want to have to do serious body work (Dad's a mechanic, and I don't really care about the interior being bad), but looking around craigslist all I see are huge discrepancies in prices. I see Z's in pretty awful condition with asking prices around 7500, or even 8000. So my question is, what do you think I can get for $5000, or is that price unrealistic for what I want?

    Thanks a lot.
