[Basic JZ series guide]

You seem to speak of the vvti upgrade on the 1JZ-GTE rather positively. I have heard people on other forums say that this is an engine to avoid for tuners.

 

As a Toyota newb, I haven’t a clue but I was hoping you could touch on the subject of modifying vvti engines?

Every once in a while I see a 2JZ with a five speed attached on ebay. So far non have specified the type of tranny.

 

Did the 2JZ-GTE ever come with an R154?

I’m going to take the measurements but in that sticky someone claims that some of the diagrams are off. So im not sure how much good it will do.

That would be awfully disappointing if my first Z is nothing but scrap.

 

Any ideas on some places to look in order to see if the whole front was tweaked?

 

I have no idea what kind of impact that could have been.. I figured it could even be from storage. The car was dug out of a storage shed full of stuff, and its probably been there years.

I just picked up a Z and I see that the unibody is indented in on the passenger side front quarter.

 

My original plan was to do nothing since the fender covers it right up. I mounted the fender and everything lines up and is straight as an arrow. But is this now a weak point? How do I go about fixing it if I need to.

 

I already have plans for a roll cage that will extend to the engine bay, my plan is for this to be a 500hp car.

Are these motors still worth getting even though they are out of an Aristo? And another newb question while im at it. Has anyone with an imported 2JZ been able to do the proper modifications to pass USA emissions laws?

I have noticed that Auto 2JZ's can be had for nearly half the price of the 6-speed versions. I dont need six speeds. Im wondering if it is possible to pair a R154 to a 2JZ that was previously automatic. And if so how much trouble is it.
