  1. No, the single cam VG is an extremely reliable, durable, and dirt cheap motor. The biggie is to change the timing belt, its an interference motor.

Oh I know all about that motor, I drive a 1993 Pathfinder with that motor(got the car in late 1992). It is a fantastic motor in the Pathfinder and I bet it is even better in the Z. I guess I was misunderstanding something else. I knew the timing belt was expensive as we have had that changed, but I didn't know everything else was reasonably priced.

  2. So it is better than the QR? What is the redline of both? What about the milage which gets the better milage(mpg)?

Also I know the SR20det is illegal but the SR20 fwd is legal in the state of Cali. But is the SR20de rwd legal? And what is N/A potential of this motor and what milage could I expect out of it?

  3. Well as long as I can make at least 200hp and 200tq I should be cool, even if its N/A and you couple that to what a 2400lb weight I should be doing 13 in my quarter and get 25mpg street(I think). What about an supercharger how well do they work on the QR25?

Is there another Nissan motor similar to the QR(excluding the SR and CA)? Is the Ka24 any better than the QR25? What is the weight of the QR25 could not find a substantial info?

Thank you for all the answers.

  4. So is the general consensus that a N/A VG30de swap simple but a VG30de turbo and twin turbo require more work?

I think I may want to use this motor for a 240Z if it is an easy sway in N/A form or even in an S/C form. The only thing I didn't really like is the redline. I have Nissan Pathfinder with the VG30de and the I find the redline to be a little to low. Does the 300zx have a higher redline?

  5. Does not matter as long as I can get pretty decent MPG and at least 200hp. It looks like my best engine choice would be the VQ25HR, which makes like 0-60 in 6.8 seconds in the recently Skyline sedan and makes around 30mpg. But they don't make this engine for the North American market so was looking for a similar feature from an engine.

  6. Nuclear too rich for my blood. And I doubt I can find an electric motor that will work with the Z. What other options are there? I would really like to do Z with a diesel motor.

So the QR25 that is in the Sentra and base Frontier, are there any issues with the motor, like an oil problems? Between the QR20 vs QR25 which is a better motor? As in which makes more power, is stronger, has gets better MPG? I read on here that people are having issues with the drive by wire? Is there anyway to circumvent it?

  7.

Now I know you guys are wondering why im not on a honda forum and the answer is because I dislike FR vehicles. Next question is why dont I have an S2000 then?

Do you mean you dislike FF cars?

Didn't read about an SC F20C making like 260hp and 210tq or something?

What about the Celica GTS/Lotus motor with a rwd tranny?

  8. Oh know I know the VQ35HR comes in the USA in the G35 sedan and 350Z(soon to be 370Z form what I read). I was referring to the VQ25HR that is the base engine Japanese Skyline V36(G35). I wish the VQ35HR was able to achieve MPG close to that. Last I heard it got something like 25mpg(highway) in the G35 and I would assume more in the 350Z.

  9. Can the F20C bolt up to the F22C tranny? Which is cheaper/easier to purchase?

I was reading up on the VQ25HR and that one seems almost perfect seeing how the car makes like 225hp about 190 ft-tq while seeing something about 37mpg in mixed driving and that in the new Skyline V36(G35). Only issue is the fact that Nissan never released that motor in North America for the G35 and I don't know if it meets California emission(I would assume yes since the VQ30, VQ35, and VQ40 are street legal). Any ideas?

  10. Yeah I heard that, but its worth a shot? Anyone know about those E300 Benz? Are they any good? What other choices do I have in the diesel engines? Is the TDI motor out of a VW Golf any good? I read those cars make like 100hp, but 180 or so in tq. The stock hp and tq aren't that bad, but since it has a turbo, an upgrade to them shouldn't be that hard. This would be the perfect motor for me as power can me had and mpg is at around 40, but alas it a fwd motor. Anyone know if you can hook it up a rwd transmission?

Hmm the F20C also sounds good, what was the MPG of that car and is it easy or cheap for find? Is the F22C any better? I understand the rev-line went down from 9k to 8k, but does that equate to better performance and mpg? Or isthe higher reving 2l motor better? Also what about the transmission, was there any improvement or changes made when they went with the 2.2l?

    Thank you.
