Channeled Big Phil's Spirit - Walkaround Video Inside
m4xwellmurd3r replied to ktm's topic in Non Tech Board
Speaking of L28ET's my 280z will undergo a turbo transformation as well. But i'm not lucky enough to have a turbo block, however, i will be rebuilding my engine back to stock, but with ARP hardware. then later one, put in Megasquirt, a new fuel rail/fpr, and a turbo setup with a P90 head. not too much boost though, only 9-12lbs at the max. anyways, Awesome video. I think Big-phil is the benchmark for all good Z videos ^__^ -
automatic transmissions usually have a plate on the bottom similar to an oil pan with a filter in it or something like that. Automatics need that filter for the same reason the engine needs a filter. to keep the fluids clean so it doesn't damage the transmission. Hopefully it's just something like ron's reffering too.

that almost sounds like what my Bronco II started doing before it went poof. Sometimes out of nowhere, it would suddenly rev very high before going back into gear. eventually i lost 3rd gear, then shortly after 2nd gear, then finally i lost all gears. (and overdrive NEVER worked) I'm not sure what caused my problem, but maybe that's what's happening to yours. If it's the same thing that happened to mine (not sure, but i think the bands went poof) then it might be time for a rebuild/swap

Who has driven their Z in the snow?
m4xwellmurd3r replied to Globerunner513's topic in Non Tech Board
i am VERY glad arizona doesn't rain much, and never snows where i live. When i was in NC, i crashed TWICE in the rain in my 40hp 62vw because of the type of roads out there. one time i was taking a left hand turn just a little bit too fast and it started to drift a bit BUT it was stable, and i was in control. however, the roads surfacing changed from the very smooth slick new road, to the old gritty grey road, and it made my car slip into the shoulder of the road and tip over (because of the like 60% grade of the shoulder. it tweaked the body but not the frame at all. still drove straight but it looked like a mess (a bush broke my car's fall) several months later i was on my way home and was going around a nice smooth turn, this time under the speedlimit. however, somehow there was a nice big spot of standing water that my car decided to hydroplane on, and spun my car all the way around. i got it straightened, except once again, tire slipped into the shoulder and it got dragged into the ditch. this time, somehow my car got almost no damage (compared to the first one). i hate rain. I've driven my Bronco II that i had (for 3 months, tranny went pop) in the snow before, and had no problems with it. 4 wheel drive makes a difference. I would never drive my Z in the snow. snow scares the crap outta me. and unless it's absolutely nessecary i will never drive my Z in the rain. Rain scares the crap outta me and rusts the z lol tl;dr i'm rambling again....sorry -
OH i thoguht of a better one. my car was overheating, and i didn't realize it at the time, but my nice little overflow tank, was at the edge of popping the lid, so as i have the hood propped up checking some things, i tapped the overfill tank ever so slightly. BOOM the lid popped off and i get DRENCHED in boiling coolant. i was lucky that i didn't get very bad burns (you've never seen me get undressed so fast) took off my shirt like i was on fire (felt like it >_<) and dumped a gallon of water all over me. my wrist burned so much that as soon as the water stopped touching it, it felt like it was back on fire. also, once i had a fuel line split on me, it didn't go straight through, but cut enough to make it pour fuel out and STILL have the car running. So, as soon as i see that my car is bleeding fuel all over the parkinglot, i shut it off, go under the car, hack off the fuel line that's damaged with my knife, and hook it back together. (this happend before the water incident) that burned me too, and i was soaked in gas. felt great on all my scrapes. That happend on a drive home one night. that definitely wasn't fun. so, as a reminder. stay away from hot water and gas burns cuts.

i think the worst i've done so far, is when i was cleaning some parts with brake parts cleaner, and not pay attention and have it shoot me in the eye. that freakin sucked. luckily i had a bottle of water caus eit was hot outside, so i poured it in my eye. Never has ice cold water on the eyeball felt so good hahaha. oh, and then there was teh time when i was pulling off my fuel rail, and the fuel line going to the rail decided not to come off, so when it finally did come off, SMACK i hit something pretty hard and got a nasty bruise (no cuts, i always wear gloves lol. But i'm sure i'll get more injuries from this car. Love hurts eh?

WHOA i didn't know Arao made heads for V-8's I posted their page on their VW heads earlier XP -
vw engines are around 240 on a stock, and can be up to 300-350 The tool for the job? A Torque Meister. basically those torque multipliers, but you use it with a torque wrench and do a bit of math to get the total output. it works GREAT on taking of the huge castle nuts on the rear drums. and it makes putting on a flywheel effortless http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D7036 doubt it's much good for us Z guys haha. I love it though.

just a rebuild. nothin special. it has plenty of power for me for now haha. -
is that a custom ragtop i see on there? pretty cool. Squarebacks would make a pretty sweet beach ride XP they aren't big enough for that big board, but you could always put a rack on it.

Speakin of turbo subies a regular customer that comes in (i work at starbucks) own's a VERY nice 62 bus, lowered with empi 5spokes. it's painted that light tourqois green color, but it's badly faded (looks flat now) i think he said he had a dual port 1600 and is putting in a 2.4 turbo subie engine into it ^__^. Buses are very nice. imagine this bus but this color i love vw's XP and you can make them get a pretty good chunk of power. and there's a huge aftermarket for vw's as far as drivetrain goes, so if you want a good engine, there are plenty of builders out there.

Tokin and Biking don't go together XP

agreed. the pearl finish doesn't suit my taste. if it was a different color, with different rims, i'd probably like it more.
-
well... at least it's FAST. 11.6 in the 1/4

i went under my car with a wrench once and knocked around the floor panels to see if any of it was weak from rust XP never heard a change in the sound really. it's all there with no holes. Doesn't surprise me though. i got a 62vw that was in restorable condition (no rust anywhere) UNTIL i moved to NC. the weather ATE the car away, and did well, 40 years worth of damage, in 2 years. pretty much, it went from a blast and paint job, to what would have been 3k+ worth in body repair. That being said. my Z will never stay on the east coast very long, and will never see the beach XP

well once i get my 78 280z to pass emissions and get a new rad for it i'll be able to DD it. (rad is clogged to hell, but emissions is close enough for it not to get hot) then once i get my tax return money i'm hopefully going to rebuild the engine, then DD it (till i think of more things to do with it) -
yep that's exactly what it is. at first when i saw that i figured he ment that it looked retarded, because looking through the carb side, it looks like the runner from the other side causes it to get crushed, but it's because it's matching the rectangle side where it mates to the engine.

olderthanme you suck. I want a Spyder AMG.
-
the backfiring was caused by 2 spark plug wires being crossed. i'm guessing the sparkplug was firing near the exhaust stroke or somethin like that.
-
haha oops, internet glitched

Dude, you beat me to posting that. I wanted SO badly to post some of docs stuff. coolest freaking paintballer ever.
