In my rush to get the brakes installed I never noticed that I was using the hubs from a 280. Swapped out the hubs and everything looks good. One small step for man, another small step among many left to complete this beast.

I bought S12W calipers from Checker. Got a .5" spacer from ModernMotorsports. Got vented rotors from Autozone. I can't tighten the caliper mounting bolts all the way and the rotor is rubbing against the caliper mounting bolt bosses. I have done searches on various websites and found nothing that compares to my problem.

How much did everyone spend on their V8 Conversion?

Same for me. Pulled old engine and removed entire rear end. Going to put in R200 next, maybe tomorrow. Good luck! -
I need advice on a fuel pump for the 90 truck TBI 350 I picked up for my 72 240Z. I found an old Hot Rod magazine that did a write up on EFI/TBI and it says I only need 9 psi. I would like to install a fuel cell in place of the spare tire well and ditch the stock tank. My plan is to use a transverse muffler set up like Firebird/Camaro. Can I get an in tank pump for the fuel cell or shelf that idea? I was kind of intimadated by the wiring issue for the TBI but the driveability aspect has merits. Anyone with a TBI have the large bore TBI setup?

I have a set of center caps for my Libre wheels that are nasty bad pitted. I've been to a local chrome shop and they said the caps couldn't be plated. Anyone have a referal to a good chrome shop?

I've seen a round fuel cell here somewhere and was wondering who makes it. Also, what would be a good fuel pump for a SBC with TBI?

I just picked up an R200 3.7 lsd. Should I use the turbo cv half-shafts or stick with the stock 240? Also, what gear lube is needed for the lsd? I have most of the parts to complete the swap but got sidetracked when I picked up a clean 73. Will the madness ever end?

Any opinions on what the best front brake setup is? Preferably bolt on. Something a step or two above toyota 4x4 calipers.

Just about ready to pull the old engine and 4 speed and was wondering what to do about a new brake pedal. Pick up one from an automatic Z or is there something more exotic?

It's my understanding that British TVR's use a destroked small block that turns close to 9000 rpms. Look to England laddie.

I have a small rust hole on passenger side above frame rail. What would be the "best" repair? Weld in a small patch, braze, or POR15 epoxy?

That's what I did in 1989. Found one in Phoenix (looked at about 10) and drove it back to Cleveland. I retired and moved back to Phoenix! The pickings are getting slimmer however. Find one and I'll take a peek for you. I met a woman from my brother's church that still drives her 73' Looked great and no rust. She doesn't want to sell, I asked.

Any recommendations on block hugger headers? I have seen many on EBay for less than $100.00. Hookers are over $200.00. I'd like ceramic coated or chrome.

I was driving down Main Street in Mesa, Az around noon when I saw a 75 or so 280Z with no grille or hood but a big Chromed Blower sticking out of the engine bay. Couldn't tell what kind of engine it had but it sounded mean.

motor problems and gauge problems

Check you timing. Do you use premium fuel? If not, try that also. -
I am nearing the point where I can put engine/transmission in car. Since I bought each one seperately I don't have the bolts for the converter or the transmission. What size do I need? Thanks
-
The struts may be set up for the weight of the car but not the torque. A reputable suspension business should be able to recommend what you need. Is it possible your struts are shot?

Is the Caprice tailhousing absolutely necessary when using the JTR transmission mount? I'm getting ready to order a rebuilt transmission and the builder says he can accomodate my request. Is the only advantage exhaust pipe clearance and routing? Thanks
-
I guess I don't understand the logic here. You can get the 700R4 rebuilt for less than the 1300 you say the T5 will need down the road. Unless you like rowing thru the gears. You could also save the cost of getting the T5, clutch and attending parts. To each his own.

I am wondering if anyone has fabricated mounts that would bolt directly to the frame in the set back position. I'm not sure if the frame could handle the stress, maybe that's why it's never been tried?

I have been using Mobil 1 in all my cars for years. I change the filter every five thousand miles then do a complete oil change every third filter change. Have never had any type of engine related failure. The synthetic formula doesn't break down like traditional oil and lasts a lot longer. You can change it every 3000 or 5000 if you like but I think its a waste of money.

Anyone have an opinion on the price of a Chevy 5-speed transmission? I was thinking of going with a 700R4 but those are close to $1000.00 . My budget is limited and was thinking the used 5-speed would be about half. Plus my wife (!) wants a stick . Thanks

I picked up an 89 383 with Throttle body injection. When the budget constraints ease I am planning on putting it in my 72 240Z. Rather than use the computer and TBI I'm guessing it would be cheaper to use a 4Bbl carb with a high rise. Anything else I need besides disconnecting the computer inputs? Thanks.

Gentlemen, I come to plead my case today. (Venting) I bought a 72 240Z in 1988 that was in Phoenix, Az. Second owner sold it for $2000.00. Mostly original with velour seat covers and door panels. 100k miles. With just new sway bars and racing tires I won my Auto-X class (C stock) in the Akron Sports Car Club. It has sat ever since. Last summer I dropped the gas tank and rear suspension and refurbished them. New u-joints, sand-blasted everything and repainted with POR-15. Looks impressive. I turned to the front end, pulled the fenders and had the inside sand blasted and repainted with POR-15. Stripped the inner fenderwells with Aircraft stripper and repainted. Mostly by myself. When I started this my brother and his 2 sons as well as my step son said they would like to help and learn as we went. As I said before, by myself. The last chaper in this story to date is the engine is frozen. I squirted oil into each cylinder when I stored it to avert this problem but it didn't help. Have tried other remedies to no avail. I was planning on pulling the engine anyway for a 350 so that was not a big deal. I did buy a stroker 383 with my last money. Still need trans and attending pieces. I wouldn't be is such a dilemma except for the fact that I have been trying to sell my other house for almost eight months. The payments are killing me. I did wander out to the garage this morning and pulled off the A/C compressor and loosened most everything else. It's hard to gather any enthusiasm at this point and my wife is on my behind to work on it. I'll try and take it as far as I can but any words of encouragement would be appreciated. Thanks for the ear. Frustrated in Arizona.
