I found this document on repairing the hinge. I have the same problem with my 76 280Z. I also have a loud pop when I open the door. Denz 280Z hinge_repair.doc

Dave, I am a new member and have been searching all over for how to pull the door hinges off of my 76 280Z. There is a load popping sound coming from the hinge when opening the driver’s door. Looks like some sort of bushing the hinge is riding on that is popping very load. I have been afraid that the spring will let go if I unbolt the hinge and cause havoc. Any help or links would be appreciated.... Thanks Denz

Hi Paul, I am new to this form and wanted to ask a door hinge question. I have a 76 Z and the door hinge pops and knocks real bad when opening the drivers door. Looks like the hinge rides on a bushing that might be worn out. I have cleaned and lubed everything. Any sugestions on how to fix this? Denz

Hi, I just purchased a 1976 Datsun 280Z needing some work a lot of seized bolts in the block from coolant. I have the timing cover off drilled all bolt out replaced the timing chain and gears, rails and tensioner. Going to replace Injectors and put on a Pallnet fuel rail. I was a professional technician for 15 years and have been out of the business for about 20 years now. Enjoying the project...
