  1. So basically, MSA either has the part # wrong on the springs, or they just have to STOP telling people to install them incorrectly. I will swap them out and take a look.
  2. After extensive searching, I have yet to find the answer to my problem. I purchased Eibach springs from MSA, I installed them per their instructions, 6303.001 up front, 6303.002in the rear, along with Tokico hp shocks. Per MSA the short springs 6303.001 were put up front and the 6303.002 in the rear. I called and they couldn't confirm spring lengths over the phone. After lowering the car off the jack stands, and after rolling the car around, the car seems to sit a little weird. The front of the car dropped almost 2" and the rear didn't move at all. I have about a finger with from the fender to the wheel(14") in the front, and a full fist of space in the rear. The front also has only about 1.5-2" off travel left before the bump stop (is this normal?). When I installed the springs, the front after assembly had about 2-3"" of slop left, and in the rear I had to apply only a few lbs of pressure to put the isolator cap on. I am not sure if i have Strut assembly's from other yrs on mine or what. Does anyone know the strut assembly lengths for all the z cars?
  3. The more info that is on this site will benefit MANY OTHER PEOPLE as well. I realize that this person may not respond nor do I expect it, but someone else may.Why post a message if you can't actually help?
  4. Am I right in assuming that you were able to use the original shifter with this trans?
  5. I also have this same transmission that I'm rebuilding. I ordered bearings and they match for a fs5w71c trans. I don't know which car or truck this is from but it seems like it is either 84-88 200sx 83-87 300zx 84-86 720 truck My trans has all brass syncros, 1st and 2nd syncro rings being larger than 3rd and 4th. This also has one 5th ring that is even smaller yet.
  6. I am rebuilding a fs5w71c transmission and I need to know what the spread springs (see pics) are for. These are MISSING on the transmission. I want to know if I run without these will it effect anything or are they just to ease installation. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. hey thanks, now this is the kind of info I was looking for.
  8. yes it is a 5 speed, and yes i know there is no 78 280zx (typo). My question is about what is going on inside the transmission. In most transmission conversions I've seen on this site( FS5W71B to FS5W71C) I've only seen the bell housing swapped out and never the tail housing. This transmission seems to have the entire transmission case from the FS5W71B with the internals from the FS5W71C. I was wondering if this is OK because the center bearing for the countershaft looks like it exploded, luckily leaving all the gears and other parts in tact. I just want to be sure that this is ok, and if i replace the bearings it won't just tear itself apart.
  9. I bought a transmission from a guy claiming it was out of a 78 280zx. After further inspection and much searching on the web, it seems to have the bell housing and rear extension from a 81-83 280zx (FS5W71B), but the internals from a 85 300zx (FS5W71C). I know this from looking at the factory service manuals from each vehicle and matching up the individual gears and parts. It has a white speedo gear, it has L1 NMCA stamped on the bell housing, and NMCA #2 stamped on the rear extension. I need to know which trans I have in order to obtain a rebuild kit and to know if I need to find a different shift lever (I have an s type lever from a 77 5 speed). Any help would be appreciated.
  10. looking for a good condition early 5 speed z car trans near grand rapids mi.
