I'll take measurements of it. And I'm getting the hood cowling that puts a hole in the center of the hood and allows it to vent like that so I feel ill have hood clearance. I wanna stick with a inline 6 that's got torque and it will make plenty of power for the car and while it won't Rev super high like the l6 it will still be nice I think.

Well I have access to an engine, like super cheap. And I got access to a supercharger for free, I feel I can do this swap for pretty cheap, I will eventually go with a Ford 8.8 rear end as well.
-
As the title says, wondering if anyone has thought about swapping a 4.0 into their engine or if they know if it will fit but hasn't been done, I've got an opportunity to buy an engine super cheap and I want to do it, but was asking here first if anyone has any input on this idea. Would be neat.
-
Alright will do sounds cool thanks for the ideas.
-
Good link. Glad I asked questions first. Now on to find another inline six engine
-
Will click on the link in a second. But ya I had looked at that while looking at my mom's trailblazer.
-
Ya, it does and it's nice, I like the idea of an inline six still tho. But I am unsure if I would be able to have a 5 speed with that motor.
-
Ok I might have misspelled vortec, anyways I was wondering if anyone had thought about swapping that engine into their z. Add a turbo to it for some extra umph may not be worth a rebuild but I do know that thos motors are fairly cheap and seem to be easily acquired. Anyone else have thoughts? I haven't really checked to see if it would actually fit into the car tho.

I was going to make this a daily for a while before I do a more serious swap. Not sure on that yet as I was thinking of just doing a ls swap or going 1j or 2j down the road. I was planning on staying with the diff it came with till then.
-
Nw240z are you talking to me? Mine is a 6/73 240z. I'll look at theach links either way. But for now Im only worried about the 4 to 5 speed swap.
-
Alright I'll check that out. Thanks for clearing things up.
-
Hmmm cool I got it a little more now. I assume the 90a is the one that I've read about that has the ratios closer to the 73z 4speed then? Sense it's from a 82 zx turbo is it safe to assume that one is a 71b?
-
Ok I got confused by what you had said about 71b and 90a. I need a little more context to that.
-
Alright, it's confusing on the t5 topic cause it's all scattered and a places say different things, and the guy who had a post with auto to 4 speed just said to use a 5 speed instead and there was very little mentioned in that post about the t5
-
I thought I had read somewhere that I wanted a t5 from 82 or 83 turbo zx. I didn't know there were 2 different kinds. Sigh. I may just not do this swap anymore then. Also thought I read there was just a small modification I needed to do to make it work with my Z. Hmmm
-
So I need to find out if it's a t5 71b or a t5 90a? I'll read up on that link. I have a 6/73z.
-
The t5 is from an 82 280zx turbo.

Quick question, I am about to aquire a t5 transmission. I saw somewhere that there were differences between early and late ones? What's an early one and late one? The transmission will already be out of the car when I go to pick it up, can someone post a picture of one please? The ones on Google all look different. And just to confirm that I have my facts straight, it should bolt right up, I have a 73 z so I don't have to worry about the drive shafts or the shifter, I need to use the TOB/collar for the clutch I wanna use, is there something I'm missing?
-
I know this is an older thread, but this all helped me. I have a question that is kind of related. If one were to do the 82/83 transmission and use the r200 lsd diff, what would I need to use the cv axles? I hope I asked that right.
-
Can anyone direct me to a link or something about how to do this? I don't wanna buy some cause to expensive but I wanna make some and I don't know where to start, Google and YouTube do no good.

No autoparts store can get the boosters for the 240z to 280z. The 280zx 10in booster is to big. And the z32 booster and MC is to touchy for our cars. I was ablw to snag the last booster amazon had, as far as i know but it did only say one left in stock. There was a booster that was slightly smaller than the 10in for later z cars that fit but ive had a hard time finding that in stock too. I just did the MC upgrade.
-
and i also found one on parts geek but the part where you hook up to the pedal doesnt look like it should and it says its for a 71 240z but that should fit the 73 still correct?
-
how did you do the 83 stuff? mine wouldnt fit. the booster was too big by just a little. i guess i could have and should have shaved the edges down and made that thing fit lol. idk if that would have been a good idea tho.
-
i had not replaced the MC but it was bleed. Im sure it was good because it was giving good pressure when bleeding the brakes so i know it was functioning corectly, then the booster wasnt holding pressure so i got a pressure check valve and that helped a little but still soft pedal.

Oh. I have the 180sx suspension and its still really stiff so I think I've got the weight issue covered.
