  1. The old miss and stumble on my Z31 turned out to be an injector recall botch job. The miss turned into 3 cylinders on one side not firing at all (Car still ran though! Long live the first Japanese V6!) The injector harness was crimped really poorly and basically fell apart in my hands when I inspected it. Fixed that and my VG rand smooth as I never experienced before!

  2. What other things did you do to get 220. I tried the Nismo cams, porting and polishing the head, gutted plenum and got to 170.

Re did the engine this past off season. Raised the compression ratio, Isky cams along with the other stuff I had done and got 220 WHP with 203Ft lbs of torque

I still think that there is more to be found with some tuning and work on the intake and exhaust

Here is the car this year at a test & tune

Hey Russ congrats! It's been a while since I've been around, so I'm glad to hear that you did it!

And what about tuning? What did you do differently in that department?

  3. FYI Nismo heads were just raw head castings. In other words, you can't use them until you have it ported and seated. They are basically your normal VG30E heads but with no work done to them...they were useful because they had more meat to them and you can grind it for specific applications. If you want narrow small ports...there you go! If you want bigger ports, just port them out. Thats what VG NISMO heads were all about.

  4. I've heard mixed reviews about felpro. My opinion is that felpro is a pretty good brand in general but for the Nissan VG's the headgaskets are crap. You are lucky if they don't blow. The material is some sort of paper composite with a steal core which is HORRIBLE for the VG. It may be fine for all iron engines but NOT the VG!

I explain much of this in my writeup gasket guide for the VG some time ago. I think this thread would find it beneficial to read.

  5. FYI the 85 T-tops did not have locks in them. The 86+ did however.

This is a set of AE t-tops... (in the lower right corner.)

I just organized my garage (with a lot of help). Now I have an eye for organization and I have to say I appreciate how neat your are :icon44:

  6. Get OEM all the way. At least the headgaskets.

I have complete engine gasket kits for the VG SOHC if you'd like you can contact me. They are OEM made from the company that supplies Nissan.

DO NOT go buying ebay off brand gasket kits...for the love of god...or atleast for the love of your Z lol.

  7. Hi my friend. I just check with the man himself and this is what I found out:

He runs 8.70 in the 1/4 mile with the VG30ET. Later he puts in a VG30DETT but with a single turbo set up and runs 8.04@170mph in the 1/4 mile. Then he adjust a little further his Haltech program running a best of 7.82 in the 1/4 mile.

The VG can put out serious power if you are willing, SOHC and DOHC alike.
