  1. Found a plug on the back of the EGR portion that was rotted out, venting exhaust gas. Hard to spot until the manifold is off, so I thought I'd pass this on.
  2. Thanks guys, got it done tonight. Off to the shop for valves tomorrow, fortunately the piston looks OK.
  3. Bent #6 cylinder intake, can't rotate far enough to get to TDC. Hoping the front cover won't have to come off when it goes back together - can we get away with securing the chain well and marking everything?
  4. Finally getting to the fuel system, found the factory fuel plumbing clear from tank to mech. pump without any sign of an electric pump. Production date is 9/74 - anyone seen this before?
  5. Trying to resurrect a 260z with L24, have spark using GM HEI instead of trying to figure out the PO's hack job. The dizzy has two green wires, wondering what the effect is if you have them backwards. It will start, but runs rough and requires a lot of advance. Also trying to fix numerous intake leaks at the same time, so it is kind of hard to pin down the problem. Just found out it was leaking at the EGR gasket. Main symptom is running rough, backfire through carb and won't fire where it should. Confirmed TDC already. thanks, Brian
  6. Trying to get a 260z up on HEI ignition - found this but not sure what year it came from, think it is 75-78. Have a reluctor on the way. Any ideas? Body is labeled as follows: d6f4-03 5602 22100 N4301
  7. From what I can tell so far, our 74 260z has an L24 motor with 3 screw dome tops and an L26 intake, along with the air pump and AC compressor. The result seems to be that the timing marks are pretty much hidden behind the AC bracket. Any advice on this?
  8. My sincere thanks to everyone that responded. We are having a good time working on this car, so far so good. I'm helping stayTRUE get this on the road. Looks like we got an L24 with 3 screw carbs, and the L26/ '74 intake along with the air pump and factory AC. Means some fun with timing marks but that is another thread. All things considered, some elbow grease has uncovered a fairly intact car and we look forward to being part of the community here. Kind of reminds me of working on my old FJ40's so far. Thanks a bunch.
