Yet a step closer to completion ...
-
A friend just bought a Nissan Sylvia S14 which he upgraded with an RB25DET. He also bought a Speed Limit Defencer from HKS (pictured below) because as he claims, the stock RB25DET motor is limited to 180kph and the said SLD will bypass the limitation and allow for full use of the engine.
I also put an an RB25DET in my 240Z (which will hopefully be done in January). I've been an avid fan of Hybridz for quite a while now and have never come across a need for this device. Am I missing something? Do I need this LSD too?

Haha i'm thinking maybe ...
Switch #1: Oil slick
Switch #2: Rockets
Switch #3: Liquor Bar pops out from the glove compartment area
And yeah, the push button does light up

it looks better in person
I hope to take better photos once that rush-job skyline is out of the shop
Here's more experimentation ...
-
6 months of time, effort, money and scratched knuckles ... and it'll hopefully be finished by late january '09

I'm getting all 5 of them for $370. I hope that's a good price for used gauges in very good condition
-
Many thanks Tim.
I'll pick up the gauges next week then and not get the DEFI controller the vendor suggested. I will however hope to get a good deal on a boost controller

Hi guys. I need your help.
A local vendor is selling me used but in great condition GReddy gauges (oil pressure, fuel pressure, water temp, exhaust gast temp and boost). We've agreed on the price already but he says I still need a control box for the gauges to work. He suggests I get a DEFI controller. I'm not sure what this controller is or if it's necessary. A friend told me that since the gauges already come with all the wries and sensors, there's no need for any such controller although he said he's not up-to-date with the new stuff so he could be wrong.
I need you inputs brothers!!!
Here's a pic of the actual gauges
Below is a pic of the gauges with the HKS "controller" (on the left) that it came with. Unfortunately, another buyer had already paid for the controller. Thus the need (says the vendor) to get another controller.

I decided to make mine upside down

I'm installing mine here ...

Gauges I plan to install (Greddy Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Water Temp, Exhaust Gas Temp and Boost Gauge)
Recaro seats
Push button start and switches

Pre-flaring work ...
With some flaring work started ...

More stuff installed (oil catch, fuel regulator ...)
Air Filter Installed
I was experimenting with different tail lights and one i considered was from a skyline ... but it just didn't look good
And I was happy to find this ...
16" Fortran rims (8.5"f & 9.5"r) i originally got for the 240z
Only to find something more attractive 2 months later ... 18" Enkei K76 (8"f & 9"r) to hold 225's f & 255's r

I've been enjoying this site since the beginning of this year and officially joined sometime in April '08 when I finally found a '71 240Z I could work on. Hybrid Z has been a great source of information as well as inspiration and i'm happy to report that 6 months have passed and I figure I have 3 months to go before Mazinger Z is completed.
The car was in running condition when I bought it and a big part of me constantly regrets ever having embarked on an upgrade project simply because the project has deprived me from enjoying an erstwhile working car. Nevertheless, I hope the wait, anxiety and cost will be well worth it.
I initially bought an RB20 and a set of 16" Fortran rims but have since also bought an RB25 and a set of 18" Enkei rims. I'm still deciding whether to sell the RB20 and Fortran rims or to keep them for whatever next project car i'll build.
Anyway, just thought i'd share progress updates and pictures.

Work on the Z has slowed (just got addicted to airsoft hehe) I'll check and report here as soon as we get to the tank

You may regret 15's.
Why is that so?
---------------------------------------------------------
By the way, I got the rims yesterday and surprise, surprise ... they're 16's and not 15's after all.
2 pcs 16 x 7
2 pcs 16 x 8
I'm still deciding whether to go 235's on all 4 or 225's front and 245's rear.
Red part will likely be painted charcoal-gray.
Here they are:

Those are the funkiness, that's for sure. The red is a little hard to take but they're kinda cool, too.
I forgot to mention i plan on painting it charcoal-gray
-
Thanks bud. This'll help a lot

After quite a long search, I finally found new shoes for my 240Z
FORTRAN
2 pcs 16x7 fronts
2 pcs 16x8 rears
will probably fit 235's on all 4 or 225's front and 235's rear
-
good to hear that. got pics of those 245's on your 7" rims?
-
A friend just called to inform me he found me FORTRAN (apparently big in Japan) rims. 2 pcs 15X8 and 2 pcs 15X7 for $950. I know i can fit 245 on the 15x8 (although best fit would be on 8.5 rims)
The question is can I safely fit 225's on the 15x7 rims?
Thanks.

Thanks Warren
Does it function automatically or does it require to be flipped up being that it locks and unlocks with each pull.
Is a Speed Limit Defencer essential to maximizing a stock RB25 or similar engine?

Thanks for the replies. We're trying to get the stock speedo/tach to work with the RB25 but even if I end up getting new speedo/tach, i'll tell 'em not to make it make a direct connection from sensor to gauges.
