  1. I posted about this a year ago. I bought their GT35R kit. Be glad you didnt get that turbo! That turbo will NOT clear the strut housing. I had to cut and re-weld the T3 flange at a more parallel angle to the head length. I still havent figured out how to address the wastegate flange... can you post more pictures of how you got a wastegate on there... I opted for a TIAL unit and without more adapters or cutting and welding it doesnt work. The downpipe fits a stock R33 for sure, but not the S30. It will even fit the S13! I did get the 4bolt to vband adapter and Im happy with that. The oil line was ridiculous... I bought some adapters and then coiled the line around the mount and used a generic strap to mount it down from flopping in the engine bay. The coolant lines were another 60bucks from ebay and the AN adapters to fit the turbo were another $30...

Then I bought the LoveFab... let me tell you now, I am still planning on using the CXracing manifold even though it obvously SUCKS! Did you look inside the runners at the joints? what a joke... #5/#6 joint is possibly the worst on mine.

Currently as everything sits I ended up putting the GT35R they sent me on another rb manifold and into a different car. MY 260Z has the CXracing manifold and a GT3076R turbo on it currently waiting for me to get around to finishing it up.

I bought my parts through upscale automotive, and luckily the owner/operator had an R33 with the same kit on it and he spelled out all the complications and even set me up with a few extra parts as related to his car, and still I ran into the other issues I mentioned.

I bought the Turbosmart Ultra-gate 38mm and I love the size of it. I am still working on the dump pipe and I'm not sure how I am going to route it yet. I had to redesign the downpipe completely and I finished that last night. I am hoping to get everything bolted in tonight (weather permitting) minus the wastegate dump. I did take a look inside the manifold and besides the 1/2 ass port job, mine wasn't that bad.

  2. No offense dude, but buying a Chinese knock off turbo.. well yeah.. it's going to be terrible. It's too bad you can't return it due to their poor customer service though. Get eBay and Paypal involved, that should at least get a response out of them.

I bought it direct without going through Ebay and I didn't pay via Paypal or I would have already filed a claim against them. I've already bought the necessary missing and wrong parts so I can get my car back on the road. I will be replacing the turbo with a real Garrett GT3071R and I've already replaced the wastegate. I was more or less buying their kit for the manifold and downpipe which ended up having to be modified to work.

  3. Just to forewarn anyone out there that is tempted by CXracing's "deals".

I will share my recent experience with this worthless excuse of a company.

First off, I will start with a bit of my backround in the automotive world...
I have been building custom cars and motorcycles for over 25 years. I am far
from new to the fabricating/aftermarket performance scene. I have a lot of experience buying and selling performance parts. I even ran a shop for a few years where I was in charge of ordering from and setting up accounts with aftermarket vendors.

My 260Z is my baby and sometimes, when money is short but the desire is there, I have gone cheap but not without doing a little research first.

I checked out CXracing and even bought a surge tank and an intercooler from them to check their quality.

I have heard that all they sell is Chinese garbage and until my most recent purchase, I didn't have any complaints.

I've owned my 260z for 15 years and I have done a great deal of custom work and upgrades to her.

I performed my RB25DET swap over a year ago and I have been daily
driving it ever since. I was a little disappointed by the dyno results so I decided to shoot for more HP.

I ordered CXracing's RB25DET S30 turbo kit minus the mounts/intercooler since my car was already set up and I requested to swap the GT35 for their GT3071R.

This is what I should have received... GT3071r ball bearing turbo with oil
feed/drain lines, oil fittings, coolant fittings, 4 bolt to v-band adapter, manifold
    w/welded wastegate flange, 3" downpipe, and a 38mm wastegate.

What I received was a GT3071r turbo with severe shaft play (the wheel hits the compressor housing), 24" feed line that won't fit unless it is routed in between and resting on the header tubes, incorrect oil feed and
drain fittings (They sent me gt35 fittings not the gt3071r), the drain hose was
correct but it's hard to screw that up, no coolant fittings/lines at all, no 4 bolt to v-band
adapter, no wastegate flange welded to the manifold, 3" downpipe that wasn't
even close to fitting (if my engine was 9" lower and 5" more towards the radiator it would work but that's
impossible) and a 38mm wastegate that was so large the v-band clamp at the back of the turbo hits the vacuum port on the wastegate (after I had the flange welded on, of course).

From what I have witnessed, the quality control department over at CXRacing doesn't
exist and obviously the knowledge of what they are selling is lacking as well.
If someone would have taken an extra 30 seconds to check what was going with
what for my application, I wouldn't be writing this. Actually, if someone would
have contacted me back after I left multiple messages (weeks ago) regarding
these issues, I wouldn't have wrote this. The day I received the package  I left messages with their sales department, tech department, my sales person and Kevin (I was told he was the man in charge) with absolutely no response from anyone.

The guys at CXracing will answer all of your questions and help you any way they can until you pay them. Once they get your money, you can say goodbye to any service.
Basically, they will take your money and send you some parts that might or might not work on your car. What doesn't work or was left out of the box, you are responsible for replacing. They do not stand behind what they sell unless there
is a possibility of negative feedback on Ebay and that will only last until the feedback window is closed.

I learned the "you get what you pay for" lesson years and years ago. I decided to give them a shot because of a recommendation from someone I know. Of course, they only bought an intercooler.

I am hoping that no one else here or anywhere else makes the mistake of buying from this company.

  4. Thanks for the tip, but I'm not a fan of the same sided intercoolers.

I don't want 3 holes on the left side of my radiator support cut that open.

Still torn on the Mishimoto G Series vs the CXRacing intercooler.

Not sure why to choose one over the other just yet.

If you haven't decided which route to go, I would strongly suggest against CXRacing. I recently had a very bad situation with their products and their customer service (or lack there of). They basically told me that I am fucked and refused to stand behind their products.

  5. I've been searching long and hard trying to find a color that would suit my ideas. I came across and i'm falling in love with it more and more. Anyone have any idea what color it is or at least something very similar? I definitely want a high gloss grey like that.

    Thanks guys!

    240%20Z%20charcoal%201.jpg

That kind of looks like Porsche Seal Gray.

  6. Felpro? Thanks but i know that the shop Orielly, Napa, Car Quest etc. are going to ask for specifics. Can you help me out with that and are they really $17?

Just tell them what car you have...If they can't get you the right gasket, they are idiots. If you need to, use the internet. Most auto parts stores have an on-line catalog (also the part manufacturer). You can look it up yourself and give the store the part number.

  7. I will have to be replacing my wiper motor in the next 2 weeks or so (rain season in CA, not to bad, hell we wear shorts in winter:tongue:). I am thinking I will be making a video on this and post it on youtube. I have a few other videos I am working on with electrical items with the 280z that some of my buddies wanted me to make (I do not understand machanics, but I understand eltronics :-D).

I think I am going to go with the mazda moter, and if that does not work, I can look for an accord one, but I shall see how it goes.

I will post an update when I get the video up.

Hope I can get it up soon. Just need to get paid so I can buy the motor.

It would be awesome if you could get the Mazda motor to park since it is faster than the Honda.

  8. I have to say you are very good in ignoring the fact we cal BS on your weight claim...

Really to me your are full of it.... ~1850 ... NO WAY !!!!!

lets forget the fact you simply know jackshit about the s130 (hence the 'shock vs strut ')

Just to make you feel better Frank, my car weighed in at 1927 lbs back in 2006. Since then, I have shaved an estimated 70-75 lbs.

Think what you want my friend. I prefer to know.

  9. I have to say you are very good in ignoring the fact we cal BS on your weight claim...

Really to me your are full of it.... ~1850 ... NO WAY !!!!!

lets forget the fact you simply know jackshit about the s130 (hence the 'shock vs strut ')

I don't care to know anything about a car that is only good for the 5 speed tranny and the turbo option. I just pull parts from the many I run into at the junk yards.

  10. Ill dig up the scales report before and after the boat trip from New York to Amsterdam. i used to have em here in my photo album. But i cant seem to find those anymore.

Next to that i think mister D (tonyD) can tell you how 'heavy' a zx is .. as he could not believe the trailer was lighter with my car in it compared to a 260z.

    Now comes the claimed weight...

With all due respect i do not believe 1850.. that is under FIA weight.... so either all parts are 'plastic' or i would like to raise the BS flag on.

(get that scale checked as it is of !!)

Anything under 2000 is very hard, and judging from the signature pic your car does not seem to be prepped that thoroughly. AND you added a full cage!

Though i might have missed something. ( FG doors hatch hood fenders ? lexan windows ? or do you still run glass, or did your car rot away so there is no metal left :P )

And i have seen early (69) cars in my friends pro shop that even the bolts that hold the fenders cut to length to save weight etc etc

struggling to get around 2000 lbs ( hence this is with a full cage).

As for my ZX I’m looking to hit the 2200 LBS marker using a full FG hood fenders and cut doors stripped and gutted as far as i can go within in the rules.

The lack of love .. because most people take the easy (cheap) route and go for the more aftermarket support and no smog BS to take into account.

In Japan you see loads o very nicely prepped s130 pulling as much if not more attention than the early cars ....

On the other hand let your riding do the talking on the track a well prepped ZX will blow the doors of a same class well prepped s30 ... History proofed that aswel.

However Like stated before i appreciate a well prepped z aswel ( or any car for that matter)

Personally i just like the zx better.. all a matter of taste i guess.. A mistake ? hmm it was the best selling Z car... must be a big mistake they made there .. making profit on a product you’d like to sell :P

Next to that before you start the BS on the rear 'shocks' on a s130 you should maybe crawl under one ... I think you mixed up the z31 with a s130 there!

I have to run now as i need to find my aviators and play some Maimi Vice tunes and get my suit that looks like this:

    04-723515.jpg

and do some coke runs :P

My car is almost full fiberglass with lexan windows (minus the windshield). Not to mention every "extra" part the car didn't need (ac, interior panels, wiring, etc) has been removed. I think the scales at the truck weigh stations are pretty accurate but I am sure their is a little bit of give or take. BTW, the cage didn't add that much weight, the wiring removed weighed about the same.

  11. I still can't stand stand when people say, [and it happens ALL the time]:

Them: "Hey is that a Z car?"

    Me: "Yep. It's a 280Z."

Them: "I have/had a car just like yours"

    Me: "Is it a 280Z or 280ZX?"

    Them: "Yeah its a 280ZX"

    Me [To myself]: FFFFUUUU

I'm right there with you. Almost every day I drive my 260 someone has to say "I used to have one just like that...mine was a 82' 280zx". I am forced to respond with "280zx? That car is no where close to comparison to my car. The two are more like cousins than anything else". But I'm an ass like that.

  12. You mean to say that S30's didn't have shocks in the back? O_O lol

My '79 doesn't squat that badly when I dump the clutch, and I still have the stock springs in the back (albeit with Tokico blues)

I also prefer the looks of the S130 over the S30, but I still love (and want) and S30 just so I can compare the two.

Also, my 90% stock ZX doesn't feel slow at all until I hit 3rd gear, and trust me, I've been in some fast cars (my first car being a 12sec '69 Firebird that I still have). It even beat my friend's B16 CRX! (but I don't want to get into any battles with comparing a Z to a Honda lol)

Im getting fairly sick of the debate which is better it is all about taste . i owned two s30 and sold both to stay with the 280zx.. witch for track use is a better base car.. with less aftermarket support but that does not hold me back ...

    Next that weight BS!!!

Want to put your 260z on a scale next to my 78 s130 .... and see how 'heavy' it is ???

they weight is really a myth!

Naturally the creature comforts in the 82 and 83 cars made it weigh in more .. but if you want to race you strip that anyway ..

And then still it only weighs in at 2518 with two extra wheels in the car. ( at least my 83 turbo did)

It is all about taste I have seen GREAT s30 and fuhbar ones. I have seen GREAT s130's and fuhbar ones.

Biggest deal is probably the smog regulations in California.

Anyhow JTL260z .. I think your comment just shows you like to oil the fire .. it doesn’t really ad much apart from blunt ignorance.

I aprieciate any good prepped Z

I'll put my 260Z on any scale vs any S30 or S130, of course, my Z weighs in at a quick and light 1850 lbs.

I am only voicing my personal opinion on the mistake I think Nissan made with the S130. I think it is wrong to try to turn a car once built for the thrill of driving (S30) into a car that seems to be more suited for an over the hill, washed up driver that needs power steering, power windows, automatic trannys and all the other creature comforts that were added to make the S130. Plus, not unlike most cars in the 80's the S130 lacks the style and good looks of it's predecessor.

Go to any car show, club event or parking lot with a S30 and a S130 side by side and you will always see which one draws more attention.

But like I have said before, this is my opinion and I know I am not alone, that is why this thread is titled "why the lack of love".

  13. You mean to say that S30's didn't have shocks in the back? O_O lol

My '79 doesn't squat that badly when I dump the clutch, and I still have the stock springs in the back (albeit with Tokico blues)

Yes, the S30 does not have shocks in the back.

All S30s came with struts on all 4 corners.

  14. Why the lack of love for the 280zx's especially the turbo? Why are they always donor cars and less often restored?

I have owned a nice 75 with all the same suspension upgrades as my 83zxt and don't notice much difference in handling. The t-tops are a nice bonus too and I have seen some breathtaking s130's as well as s30's.

I could see the s30 having an advantage at the track given the some mods but most of us just want a nice old sports car to enjoy.

For the life of me I DON"T GET IT!

    1) Ugly

    2) Heavy

    3) Shocks in the back

    4) Crappy interior

I could go on but I don't think I need to waste any more time on a S130.

  15. I was wondering if anyone out there has toyed with the idea of a copper intake/exhaust gasket?

The factory and aftermarket gaskets seem to be either crap or one step above crap.

I am considering having one produced and tested. The only problem I could possibly see would be the cost, but it would be worth it in the long run, especially for anyone running a modified Z.

    Your input is greatly appreciated.

  16. Okay well my 72 z is a major gas guzzler. i put 5 gallons in and it only gets me 35 or so miles, which is ridiculous. My setup is a l28 thats running duals su's the good ones. i don't have the charcoal canisiter or fuel return lines on it. I was wondering if anybody has some insight on how i can get more than 6 miles or so to the gallon?

6 MPG is a little bad...I get 9 MPG city and 28 MPG highway (at 100 MPH).

Of course, the 9 MPH city is my fault because my 260 is heavily modified and I was born with a lead foot.

  17. Here are coupla Pics of my suspension before and after. I got rid of all most of the old stuff and went with Ground controll coil sleeves and Tokico Illuminas. I plan on getting some sportmaxx 002's in gold I'm probably going to go with 15X8. Oh and the the one picture is me and my buddy that works at the shop i go to every so often, lowering the rear as much as possible lol.

Since you are building a drift car, I was wondering what spring rates did you go with and if you have tried them on the streen yet?

  18. I would do a search on Top End Performance before calling them. I was not happy with my dealings, nor were many others

I have order from Top End Performance several times over the years and have never had an issue. Maybe I'm just lucky that way.

  19. were can i find a l28 to 3.1L big bore kit>? thezstore.com doesnt sell them anymore but they said in the soon future they plan to restock who knows. anyway if they dont restock what other website/store may i find this big bore kit at?

    Check out www.racetep.com

Knowledgeable guys over there with years of z-car racing experience.
