I had to lower my steering rack to fit in the engine that I'm installing, without these- my bump steer was crazy, with the off set tie rods from TTT I have the bumpsteer down to couple of mm from normal driving height to fully bottomed out. Mine is an extreme case but all you are trying to do with the off set tie rods is make sure your lower control arms are parallel to the tie rods. And yes you do have to drill out the steering knuckle with the drill that comes with the tie rods.
Not parallel,
Parallel
I have a set of these waiting to be fitted and assumed that the machined spacers were fitted above and below the Heim/Rose joint, forming a continuation of the ball.

Is there an easy way to get them mounted back on the car with the double lipped seal.
I used a piece of cord to pull the inner seal inwards but it was still a struggle!

It is a ball joint but I'm just planning to set them in one position then lock it it place with JB Weld or silicone and thread lock the screws as I'm the only driver!
They are bike mirrors so they should stand up to some punishment!

I haven't driven the car with them on but they seem to be solid with the M6 rivnuts I used!

It looks a little like a Ford Capri Mk1 from the front 3/4 view.

My car is getting body work done and painted at the minute plus I'm at work in Africa for the next couple of weeks. I'll post a couple of pics once I get home and get the car back.

For what its worth, motorcycle mirrors put up with a lot more wind resistance, vibration and bumps. I did a google search for magical racing mirrors on cars and S2000 guys really took a liking to them. You can also see some mounted on race cars. I'm pretty confident they'll do the job well. Its just a steep price for entry.
I bought a set of Lockhart Phillips Race Lite a while back which look very much like the Type-1 Magical Racing mirrors but are less than half the price.

I would have to agree with the detonation diagnosis.
What sort of fuel system are you running and what AFR's were you reading at the time it happened?
Wheel spacer doesn't fit 280z front ;(

It's hard to tell from the photos but are you sure that rubber extension you mentioned isn't an old spigot ring stuck to the hub?
