DREW, thanks for the wake up post! I read your post and got to thinking "I should be able to reply to this question" but don't have my diff back from the rebuilder yet.
I am installing the OBX in a 3.90 R200 from a ZX with 200K miles so like the 5-speed from the same vehicle, I thought it wise to have it rebuilt before installing it in my 77. When I dropped it off (back in May) I said I was not in a hurry since I planned on driving the Z all summer and will take it off the road now that fall is here for a series of upgrades. Upon checking yesterday, my rebuild guy said he could not find a "rebuild kit" for an R200 so he has not touched the thing; now I am on the search.
In searching this site, I found what I believe are the correct part numbers for the bearings & seals I need, though not a "kit" per say. I also see that Black Dragon lists the bearings/seals for the R200. Anyone have feedback on the quality of their R200 parts?
TIA, Kevin

Zmanco, you should check out this topic: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/1/2057378 on zcar dot com by slownrusty. He is from down here in Colo Spgs though I am not sure if that is where the custom exhaust was manufactured.
IHTH, and thanks for the info on the machinist for my flywheel!

Jon, thanks for the link to the article. Having read it I see what you mean about it not exactly being an apples to apples thing between a clutch type & helical. It did answer my "how to" question though.
John Scott, thanks for your reply also. Since this is going in my street 280z with a mild motor (for now) I rearranged the washers to match your orientation based on your road report.
After many measurement & fit sessions with these washers in the various orientations I figured I would give the least aggressive (from a preload standpoint) setup a try. I figure can always add more preload down the road if the need arises. Since most everyone here is running more motor than I currently am, I think I am taking the conservative approach.
I am very curious to see how everyone else’s setups work once you each have a little more time & miles on them.

First off, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread; very educational! Because of the info posted here, I too decided to go the OBX route for my diff rebuild.
FWIW, I disassembled the unit today and it the gears were in mine upside down as well. And to add to the washer stack files, mine came like this: ((()()().
Now my question, how does one measure the breakaway torque mentioned in some of the earlier posts?
I stacked the McMaster washers )()()()( and am wondering how to measure how they stack up (pun intended) to what others have measured so far.
TIA, Kevin.
