  1. Your z is beautifull by the way mr jc 05... But anyways, I have been told repeatedly from kids at school (never a good source) but they say running a straight header is bad for your car, because I backfire sometimes, and that is bad for the valves. Is that true? Will running a straight header kill my car? And do you think I could fix alittle of the back fire problem with new high performance sparkplugs, and or wires, and or coil? To reduce the amount of unburnt fuel by burning more is what I was thinking...

I am now running straight headers... lol and the fumes kinda suck, but I like the sound lol I feel a differance when I get past four thousand rpm, but I feel a power slump between two thousand five hundred, and three thousand... So I think it is no good for top end. But when I really get on it, I do notice a differance in how long I do not have traction :-) (I can't hear myself burn rubber now though... exhaust is too loud)

Hey, so I am thinking my speedo is about 10mph fast... so I was wondering if anyone has a 130mph speedo they are willing to let go for cheap, or if someone else has already put one in, if they have the stock one laying around if they would be willing to let it go for real cheap. Or is there an easy way to fix mine? Thanks. :wink:

  4. So, I bought my little 280zx, and have bought headers, intake, and exhaust for it, but think if I tune the car alittle, I could squeeze some more power out of it... but I don't know how to do any electronic work... or anything... How can I tune my car for more power?

  5. He is right about the header wrap, and I think you do need the washers... or at least you "should" use them... They make up for the space differance between the flange of the header since it is a differant size... It goes on the top bolts of the header where it overlaps with the intake. :-)

  6. :cry2: So amond many other problems, lol, everytime I depress my clutch pedal, there are 3 clicking noises... I read on someones v8 post that there scarab doese the same because a mount is broke... Does anyone have another diagnosis? And where is this mount he is talking about? Sorry for newbishness, but I am kinda at a loss...
  7. Go to dragtimes.com. It is a cool website where everyone puts there dragtimes down in comparison with other cars, and they can also sell parts there. I found so many parts for so cheap, including nismo headers for only like $30... And s30 fender mirrors for $15... it was awhile back, but check it out. Just type in a search for 280zx, go to a persons profile, and on his profile it will say parts for this car. Click that. It is super sick, and there is ALOT on there. :-)

  8. sadly, I have this header. If it is cheap, go for it... I bought mine new, and there was no pipe for the egr attachment, so we had to custom fab some. Also it requires special washers that come with it, so I don't know if it will work without them. From factory they claim up to a 6 horsepower gain.... wish I wouldn't have spent so much money on six horsepower, but they sound is alot better. :-) Also the gaskett that comes with it isn't good, you should get a felpro one. The paint doesn't last more than 10 minutes, so maybe you should paint it with header paint, and wrap it, although if you wrap it it will be EXTREAMELY hard to put on, especially if you do not pull the motor. But your life will be so much easier if you can pull the motor, I had a heck of a time. Also remember you can get to the top overlapping bold by removing the plate on the intake manifold, wish I woulda known that, but it only helps if you are not replacing the gasket. Hope I helped. :-)

    if your looking at going with the centerforce i have a used one in good shape with only like 3-4k on it it held fine on my NA l26 i just took it out because i did a turbo swap. its just sitting on a shelf.. make me an offer
  10. Come to think of it, I have done a little fiberglassing work in the past. The stock hood *could* be used as a mold for an easy fiberglass one :)

    That idea is actually really intriguing me right now.

     

    Fiberglas hood and lose the bumpers.

    Maybe attempt to mold some new fenders if the hood goes well?

    I could even pull out the hood spring asly if I went with a 4 pin styler hood...

    I'm liking it :)

     

    The doors seem to be heavy as hell! Think theres any weight to save there?

     

     

    Does anyone have any preferences on a new cam?

     

    At this point, I'd prefer to not go down the route of a swap. In the future it would be amazing when I have the proper funding and resources to support it. Right now, I'm just making the best of what I have for a reasonable price.

     

     

    If you can make nice fiberglass peice you could sell them. I dumped alot of weight with ac delete, and bumpers, and interior. I would be very very interested if you made fiberglass fenders/ hood/ custom lip :-)

  11. So, do I want backpresure? Or not? I don't care about how loud, purely performance. I have the flowmasters, and if they have to much backpressure, I will hack it off. lol I mean, how would 2 inch exhaust compair to 2.25 manderel bent with a muffler? About the same? Or would I not have enough power and loose low end torque?

  12. So, I have a 1981 280zx with k&n cold air intake, pacesetter monza header, and a flowmaster muffler... How much backpressure do I need? Would I gain power and or torque with straight pipes? I think I have about 2 inch tubing...
