  1. Okay sooo Just got a 81' and doing lots of reading and stuff. Keen to get into as much restoration as I can without spending too much. Anyway, first problem of im sure many that i need help with My drivers door was really stiff to open. So I opened it and had a look at the latch on the inside of the door. I pushed it to see how springy it was and it just stuck in the locked position... Anyway I got a pdf of the factory service manual. I pulled the door trim off. The lock assembly doesnt let you see really what makes the latch actually turn. I mean, the inside lock and handle pull their respective lines, but the damn latch is still in a lock position. So I tried to unscrew the door lock assembly from the frame side of the door, but its impossible to freaking get out and tinker with. Theres that big 'rear guide rail assembly' blocking it from coming out. Is that guide rail for the window? I think the line that comes from the outside door handle to the lock assembly seperated from the lock assembly when I unscrewed the lock assembly... so hard to see whats going on with that guide rail in the way anyway, my question is, do I have to completely gut this freaking door (and take out the rear guide rail assembly) just to get the latch back into it's default position? I took photos from inside the door, they arent great, and now my card reader wont read my cameras memory card so yeah thats more annoying, ill try get pics up asap Thanks guys
  2. Yo my brother left the country a couple years ago, and his datsun has been more or less just sitting. My dad had to jump start it, but was then able to get it into a garage spot we have down the block. Tried starting it today, it clicked and then buzzed a lot but didnt start. I've got a spare battery I can try on it So what do you reckon? Theres spots were i was able to poke my finger through the rust, but not many. I've never done any kind of car restoration thing before, but I figure with the money it wouldve cost me to buy a car like this, I could get the body professionally de-rusted and primed ready for painting. Engine-wise, I'd just like to have it running for a while. I'm on a provisional license, and here in australia, until you have your full license, it's illegal to drive turbo/v8/performance engines. So I thought till then I could rebuild the current engine and in a couple years when it's legal, do a turbo swap or something. Impressions? thanks
  3. Yo new to the car scene. My brothers moved over seas and has offered me his '81 zx for free. it needs work though. Interior, body (rust) and engine too. My dad says it just needs a new battery to be going again, but I'd really like to make this car my own and to do that I want to take apart the engine and get it all running nice. So I tracked down the FSM as a .pdf, gonna print it at work when no ones around. Is it worth getting How to rebuild your datsun OHC engine and How to restore your datsun Z car I'm guessing with those 2, the FSM and this forum for a few questions here and there, i've got all I need info wise right? cheers
