  1. There is a complete 1986 300zx turbo w/an extra engine & turbo listed on ebay and the guy says he will take $600. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6398&item=4534879937&rd=1 You could pull the rearend out of this, sell the rest of the stuff and possibly make a little $$$ for the adaptors Ross sells.
  2. OK, but has anyone here put a 351C in a Z?
  3. Dayz- most people here, myself included have used 18ga sheet for floor and unibody repairs. It's a little thicker than factory sheet metal in many areas and easy to weld if you take you time and take care not to burn through your welds. Dipping the car would be the best move but it can be expensive; Henry Cotanzo (the Pres. of the Z club down here) just had a shell dipped for $1.50 per pound. The shell and doors weighed in at 600+ lbs. (over $900). If you can't swing that then sandblasting and scraping are in your future (thats the route I went). If you are going to restore the sub-frame and uinbody, go ahead and do the sub-frame connector upgrade. The shell is already stripped and you will kick yourself later for not doing it. Install these while the car is on jackstands; especially if you think things are too weak to suspend on a rotisserie. You won't be sorry. Speaking of-do yourself a favor and make a rotisserie. It will be one of the easier parts of what your getting ready to do and cut your work time in half. Take your time and cut out anything on the shell that is questionable. If you cannot see the inside of a body part in question cut out a small section and look around inside. These cars are known for rusting from the inside out. If you like to fabricate and have patience (and the car is not a total basket case) you will have something to be proud of when your done.
  4. BOOMER-Z don't forget the Detomaso Pantera; that was a sweet application!... but you know what-your right. The 351C was great in it's day but there are much better Ford engine options now. This thread just kind of took me back a few years and reminded me of crusing in the Mach 1 with Led Zepplin playing and funny smelling smoke flowing out of the windows...Far out man!
  5. Yep, the 400's had canted valves.
  6. The derivative(s) of the 351C did not have quite the same head design...and thats where the power came from (canted valves, large oval intake ports). It has been noted many time that the 351C put out the most HP per cubic inch than any other normally asperated V8. Putting aluminum 302/351W heads on a 351C would just make an engine like a 351W. The reason people adapted 351C heads to a 302 was to clone a BOSS 302 engine which was equiped w/351C heads. I think there used to be 351C aluminum heads put out by Ford for the NASCAR guys. Good luck finding any.
  7. I hope so. Chose a SBC because there was not any info for a 351C swap. I used to own a 71' Mach 1 w/a 351C that absolutely screamed...and that was in a HEAVY body. I can only imagine what a Cleveland engine would do in a Z.
  8. Yea, that dosen't suck... but it does remind me of people who spend $50,000 on a custom gourmet kitchen and don't even know how to cook.
  9. I realize Ferrari can make YOUR life hell for using their badges, logos, etc. Even Carrol Shelby went after the kit car builders when they started making Cobra kits and using Shelby emblems. What I meant was I don't think it's out of line to use emblems on a replica. I have always wanted a car like the 250GTO but never seem to have the extra $10,000,000.00+ laying around to buy one. So...I'm building one. After all the blood, sweat and money I'm putting into this thing I'll put little rearing stallions on it if I want to. Catch me if you can Ferrari! Oh yea, your Scorpion body looks awesome!
  10. I found the catalog section of your website-I had an old link. Thanks.
  11. When are you going to have detailed info. and an itemized parts list on your website? http://www.scorpionzcars.com Regarding the Ferrari badges...people have been putting Shelby Cobra, Daytona, etc. on their replicas for years. I don't see what the big deal is about doing the same with a Ferrari replica. Especially if it handles and moves like the real deal!
  12. I think another kind of hybrid may be added to my garage.
  13. Go to: http://album.hybridz.org/data/509/9455Irwindale-1.wmv Thems balls.
  14. You may want to check out azguy's new post in the exhaust forum. He is having ground clearance issues and his car (280ZX) does not seem to be lowered at all. Remember, for the VR kit the car must be lowered a couple of inches and this may really complicate things! Obviously it can be done but the pipes will have to be raised up on the rocker panels so watch out for leg burns! Good luck-keep us posted.
  15. GLAD YOUR OUT! A few things have changed since you went away but I think it's still legal to install a V8 into a Z car. The way things are going it may not be too long until this site has to go underground and all of us have to worry about jail time for "installing unauthorized powerplants" in our vehicles!
  16. Who ever took those shots has a great eye. Very enjoyable!
  17. Just to follow-up. I talked to a tech at Scat about 302 rotating assemblies for a 327 or 350...it's not a cheap date. He said the crank would be semi-custom and the pistons (need dished due to 58cc heads) and rods would be $$$ in addition. When asked about putting a 283 crank in a small journal 327 he said that would work fine but the rods and pistons would probably be expensive. He strongly advised building a 327 because forged cranks, rods and pistons are still readily available off the shelf and you can "rev the snot out of them". In addition he said by adding a light weight flywheel and balancer you would still have the quick rev characteristics of a 302 when you tapped the gas. The people at Scat were very helpful and seemed sincerely interested in providing the best solution w/the least amount of headache and expense. Thanks for the lead Pop N Wood.
  18. Thanks again for the info. guys. I've already got a lead on a 327 jt1 but thanks for the offer!
  19. Thanks Mike-looks like I'm hunt'n for 327/283 stuff!
  20. Can you guys confirm this...Grumpy are you out there? I would really prefer a 302 to anything but I realize they are rare and $$$$. If it is possible to put a 283 crank in a 327 for the same result I'll go that route. Thanks for the help!
  21. I still have a good hatch door left if anyone is interested.
  22. Hey, is that also true of an old school 350? Will a 153 tooth off a 305 work? Thank you.
