  1. The T-5 transmission is rated at around 300 ft lbs of torque. (came with the 305 engine) If requires the t-5 bell housing which was tilted slightly to clear the chassis design in the camaro/firebird. The improved T-5 is called the world class. It's a direct bolt in 26 spline tranny. It's a external hyd slave type clutch release which requires a modification of the hyd hose to adapt to a aftermarket clutch master cylinder or you can go internal... It works but any high torque abuse and you'll be picking up the parts under your car. Best 5 speed option is tremex TKO 500 or 600 5 speed. Set up for early chevy, direct bolt in, bullit proof. Requires internal hyd throw out. I have a TKO 600 (600 ft lbs capable) in a 240z with JTR set back motor mounts. 0.64 overdrive in 5th/cruises at 2200 @ 70 mph.   2. T56 are very popular swap, but there are easier ways to go with the first generation blocks. I went with the Tremex TKO 600 5 speed. It comes set up just like a early muncie, with a 26 spline shaft and will bolt up to a early 4 speed bell. The fifth gear is .64 overdrive. My zz4 240z (JTR set back mounts) cruises at 70 mph @ 2200 RPM. I love it...My two cents...Good luck with what ever you do..
