  1. This is a really good question I found while doing some searching. Does anyone have any suggestions. I'm still searching.

    hey,

Almost got my engine back together, going the the exhaust shop tommarrow to have a new flange welded on to the downpipe.

Got one more thing to do before the turbo is all ready: need to mount the wastegate actuator. Any tips on doing this? It is a dual port adjustable type. i guess my main question is how to tell how close it needs to be, becasue with the adjustable pushrod should it be mounted where it is tight fully extended, halfway in?

  2. Dave, I was just going through this older thread and saw a post of yours that talked about MSII not having fuel cut on decel. I think in the accell enrichment wizard in tuner studio you can create any percentage of decel that you're looking for. I've got mine set at 85% without any bucking but for the longest time I left it at 100 % with pretty good results.

I was also wondering if you are still using the same accel enrichments that are posted from a few years ago. Thanks

  3. My late 260z running a 280zx turbo motor with Megasquirt II. Originally an auto but switched to a 5 speed about 4 years ago. From one pic to the next you can see how much the car dropped with a tokico advanced handling kit. Most of the problem was using KYB's as replacement struts years ago and keeping the original springs. The car never had the correct ride height aftwards.

  4. I did this swap about 5 years ago on my 74 260 auto using a 78 5speed. If I remember correctly the drive shaft out of the auto worked fine. BTW, there is a collar that sits on the aft end of the crank that needs to be removed before the pilot bushing is installed.

Best mod that I have done to my car...other than a turbo and MS. Chuck

  5. Sorry that this has not been an easy fix so far. I see variations in my idle kph just due to changes in atmospheric pressure I suppose it's not a big difference from 30 to 36kpa at idle.

I run two different boards and everytime something is wrong and I swear its the MS unit itself......I swap it and the identical symptoms appear on the other one. It always seems to be something external. (though the 3.57 board is much cleaner regarding noise) For the money, if you can't chase this down I would by a stim if you do not have one. If the MS board is responsive on the stim with different inputs and reads normal atmospheric kpa then I would trust it.

Just curious, is your car still running poorly at mid rpms? or is this just at idle right now?

  6. I had a MSII problem at one time that was very similar. Turn the key on and check what your manifold pressure is in megatune or tuner studio. Now start the car and see what it is while your at idle. I had a small hole in my vac line from the motor to MS and it took forever to figure out what was wrong.

I see your elevation is under 1000ft so maybe a engine off pressure of 100 and idling in the ballpark of 30 or so. Chuck

I'm on my mac or I would look at the datalog, sorry

  7. Checking your AFR in megatune or even logworks provided by innovate sounds like a good idea to start. I had constant reset issues with my MSII/ LC-1/xd_16 combo. It seemed that the unit would lose calibration and then give me odd numbers similar to what you might be seeing.

It turns out the there are production batches of LC-1's out there that have issues and were replaced by Innovate free of charge. They didn't immediately offer this to me but after several emails with Klaus and Felipe the unit was replaced. Their tech forum has tons of great info and I found some people had oscillation issues at idle that were solved using capacitors. I used to operate closed loop to solve a warm restart issue that has since been corrected by using an IAT correction

BTW, I have not had one reset with the replaced unit and it's been at least a year and a half. Chuck

edit: I see that they are taking it back. I'll leave my info for future searches

  8. Okay here is the latest MSII tune. I have been running it on my new motor for a few weeks but this is similar to a tune that I have been running for a few years now. Try it out and let me know what you think

    1974 260/78 5 speed

    82 280zxt MSII 2.8 running about 12psi

scottyz downpipe, 240sx tps, pallnet throttle body adapter

    450cc inp009 blue tops, t3/t04e hybrid,msd 6al, intercooler

    tuned with LC-1/xd-16

    2.8 tune for hybridz.zip

  9. Dave, I'm certainly not out of ideas yet but I was wondering if you could take a close look at an old data log that you might have using the same Msq file for megasquirt that used to work fine for you. Maybe try to compare that to a brand new data log and then start to look for differences specific to duty cycles and pulswidth. It would take very little effort and who knows maybe something will show up.

I do like the compression check idea because its so easy and allows you to move on to other things.
