  1. Did you find out from the previous owner if the car was running before in its current state? That would have answered your computer issue and a lot of other questions. The reason they would swap different heads on could be for lots of reasons such as different CRs. I think you should do some searching about Turbo engines most of what you want to know has been covered.

     

    Ill try asking the guy i bought it from, but the reason he had the car was because he owns a tow yard and was asked to tow the car from a shop because the previous owner had what looks like the motor rebuilt all gaskets etc look new like the engine has never been run or run very little. He was asked to tow it because the ownwer didnt have the money to pay for the work and jst abandoned it

The N42 head didn't come on the 83 so that has been swapped and most likely someone swapped a turbo engine into your car. the stamping on the block to tell if it is a N42 or F54 is near the left engine mount. I'm also confused why your so interested if it has been swapped, is there some reason?

     

    I am interested because i bout the car thinking it was a turbo car with the intentions of getting running first and then swapping it into my 78 2880Z. I expected to have to do some work just trying to figure out if its gonna be way more than i thought. Were the N42 blocks and heads that were built as a turbo motor? The ecu in it may not even be a turbo ecu if so maybey go strait to a MS system. Just lost of questions popping up.

  3. What blck do or should i have with the N42 head? Its got the stock turbo on it but since the cars vin says its an na car i dont know im a lil confused/pissed/ arrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggg. More numbers from a id plate on the pas side firewall.

    KHLS130JAUBC1Y L3N71B RB35. Ijust need help in finding out what ive got. Number that are on the ECU dirvers side by your feet are its a yellow laber A18-602-045 with 3202 below that.

    Im thinking its a F54 block but dont know where the stamping of that would be on the block.

I now know that the turbo motor in the 83 i just bought is not the orig motor at least i dont think it is. the vin is JN1HZ04S5DX562626 and the head is a N42 engine id on the pas side of the block is L28 104455. The h in the vin i think means non turo car where a c would mean turbo. Any help with finding out what motor i do have.

  5. I just got back from my vacation where i picked up the 83 280zx turbo car i bought on e-bay. My ques is for the swap of the turbo motor to my 78 would it be best to try and get the motor running in the 83 before doing the swap or just swapping it into the 78 and then worry about what wires go where etc.

  6. Hey there, good to hear you got the car! Have you decided to pull the drivetrain or bring the whole car back with you?

    My mechanic friend here said dont be a dumbass basically and recommended to bring the whole car back LOL. He makes perfect sense because yes i could pull just what i want etc but id probably be in sometype of rush and id prob forget something or f something up LOL. Besides after the motor and rear end which should just bolt in my 78 as well ill either try to sell that auto tranny and the shell. I may keep the wheels and put those on my 78 and put the wheels on it on the 83. If any one wants an auto trans from a 83 turbo car hit me up.

  8. This is a repose i guess lol because i posted it in the 280z tech fourm a few min ago.

     

    I made the 1st step in making my 78 a turbo. I aquired a 83 280zxt off ebay that i will pick up in a couple weeks. Im glad its gonna become summer soon here in mt because its too dam cold to work on anything in the winter since i donthave a nice warm heated shop.

  9. Just a heads up on any upcoming post that you might have. If it has nothing to do with any MECHANICAL part of a Z than it belongs on the Non-Tech boards. Don't want any mods to come in and shut down a good post for filing it incorrectly.

  11. Hey all i live in montana and am currently bidding on an 83 280zx turbo on ebay and its in vegas. My ques is if anyone there could possible go take a look at it, i should of asked this a day or so ago because the auction is set to end tommorow at about 530pm mountain time. I know from the description thats its not running just dont know why even though i talked to the guy whos putting it up on the auction block. He says a kid brought it in to haver the motor built or something like that but couldnt pay the bill so he just abandened it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   12. voltron thats a lil more than i want to spend i was thinking 500 something like that. Im just looking for a complete motor to drop into my 78. Even if i have to rebuild it a bit thats fine i can do that with the exception of the machine work. Im going to be in so cal in a few weeks to for a lil rnr and dirtbiking.Thank you for the thought though

  13. Hey voltron im in montana and you? How much are you asking? I just want the motor to put in my 78 280. Im guessing and i hope guessing right that even if the motor comes from a car that was an auto that it should just drop right in my car and bolt right up to everything? If i have to use a lil elbow grease to make it work thats kool too.

  14. I did find an 280zx l28 rurbo motor thats in f-ing alaska LO)L. Its a complete motor with about 130K on it. the wiring harness was cut at the dizzy. Shipping will kill me and so might that harness being cut. Im going down to cali in a few weeks maybey ill get lucky at a pick ur parts place and fine one there.

  15. Im pretty sure its the orig rear end. Im also pretty sure that its a limited slip. I have the rear up up in the air put it in 1st and the left tire spins but the right doesnt, i them press in the clutch and then hold onto the left rear and slowly let the clutch out and the right wheel spins but i can kinda feel it wanting to spin the left. When i let go of the left it spins then right comes to a stop is this limited slip or and open diff. Can i get a posi for it? HLS30-454791 what does this tell me or where can i find out what this will tell me?

  16. I live in Montana and have a 78 280 with the n47 head not sure what block but i think its what ever is stock . The car runs good now but i want a lil more umph out of it. I know turbo is the way to go for power but i want to keep it NA for now anyway. What cam specs should i use (id like to keep the stock efi if i can) and also ill either port and polish the head myself or send it out. Any help is greatly apreciated.
