  1. Mospeed, some people have more money than others and that is life. Everyone's circumstances are different--don't judge based on that. He is getting the money in a legal and moral fashion--that is all that matters. Davy
  2. Phil, it looks like your work is really progressing well on the Roadster. I'm shocked at the relative similarities in size between the transmissions--will any massaging to the tunnel be necessary?? Thanks for the link to the pics. As usual, beautiful workmanship on the door handles and lights. Feel like doing some floopans for us on our cars? BTW, good thing you are using the "SPL311" name again, much better than just "S." Davy
  3. I love those Comp Cams stuff--especially their Xtreme energy cams. I am dreaming about one of those right now... BTW, Jason, you are a nut. Davy
  4. OK I'll bite (as always): 240Z with 8 point cage & subframe connectors, body kit by Reaction Research, Integra headlights, custom tribal-flame paint job ala DavyZ, 17" Volk Racing wheels with freakin' WIDE rear tires, 13" Brembos, GC suspension, ZF Racing camber adjusters, Modern-Motorsports big rear brake kit, Alcantera suede leather covered Momo or Recaro seats, Momo steering wheel, Momo pedals, Carbon fiber dash with white Autometer gauges, kickin' stereo with, carbon fiber panels, MBZ carpeting, new glass all around, lots of Dynamat everywhere, etc. As for the engine & tranny: Aluminum block 377 with lightened steel crank, AFR heads, H-beam rods, CompCams solid lifter Xtreme Energy roller rockers, etc, twin turbo setup with stainless steel headers & plumbing, EFI with MSD Digital 6 ignition, polished T56 tranny with Pro 5.0 shifter, Centerforce clutch, etc, etc. R230 rear end with CVs and all new hardware. I figure with about $4000, I can get what I want pretty easily...in my dreams BTW this topic has come up again and again--and I hope it still does in the future. I love to dream about "what if..." with no limits to $$$ and that kind of thing. Keeps me creative in dreaming up the ultimate Z-car. Davy [ October 26, 2001: Message edited by: DavyZ ]
  5. Kudos on the excellent bellypan work and the tower braces--very clean indeed. Davy

BTW, Jack, Pete is right about it making the Z very fast. $3500 is a downright low numbe, but it may actually work if you can fab the JTR kit yourself. There are some things that you will have to buy: tranny, mounts, get driveshaft changed, suspension, exhaust, fuel pump, etc. Are the wheels stock? You'll need wider tires for the rear for sure. You may be able to do it for $3500, but it will be a wheel & deal, look for the bargains type of conversion (which is not a bad thing BTW). All this is IMO. Davy

Thure, you are a real prince! Davy
  9. Havok, you can also go to www.modern-motorsports.com to get a coil-over kit as well. Ross, isn't that your company? Doh! Yes, I see it in your signature, my bad! Davy
  10. Ken, if you do decide to upgrade the stock motor, MSA does sell cams, headers, and exhaust for better performance. What stinks is that the price of the cam kit is very high in comparison to small block Chevy parts, where you start at 200 hp and go up from there (very easily BTW)! I'll always be a swapper guy, because there is just easy, reliable, power to be had in a V8. You can get nice power out of an L6, but not near the torque and horsepower of a V8. If you like the L6 (and I do too ), consider the upgrades above and an upgraded ignition--that will give you better mileage, etc. A distributor that that eliminates the points will keep you from the pain of having to adjust them (one of the first things I would do on an L6). Again, if you have the time, money, and desire, do a Chevy swap with a mild motor and you'll never have to look back. As an alternative, you can do what Pete suggested and swap in a turbo motor from a 280ZXT. That would be relatively "easy" and stay all Nissan Have fun with your "new" car and enjoy the ride!! Davy

Seriously, if Auxilary reads this and then comes over and snaps a shot of me, cool! I have nothing to hide, especially since I look like Mel Gibson...well maybe not BTW, Andrew, by the time my mug gets in here, no one will really care anymore! lol Davy Davy
  12. FWIW, here is my suggested list of things to do if the car is running: 1) Brakes (if you want stock ones and they are in good working order, skip this) 2) Tires (notice I didn't say wheels--even if you are changing out the wheels eventually, tires (like brakes) are a safety item. 3) Suspension (handling is very important, especially if the shocks are shot and the anti-sway bar is broken) 4) Engine (this is assuming that it only needs a tuneup, etc. 5) Interior 6) Body Someplace should be electrical, but I would say to have your car roadworthy, your list of priorities will lend themselves to your particular situation with the car---the car is used and can have any number of things wrong with it. Safety items first, then the fun stuff, IMO. Good luck with your project! Davy

  14. That's your wife? Wow you didn't lie...
  15. Auxilary, look at the side windows, it does look a little bit like a Z car. And man, would I ever like a huffer sticking out of the hood like that!--interestingly enough, that is a fake blower in the movie, apparently, but the engine is a 351 ci Ford V8 and is apparently so powerful it doesn't need a real blower! Wow, maybe I should switch over to the Ford camp... Davy
  16. Mike, you'll never hear me swear, but I do get irritated at such displays of complete and utter disregard for accurate information--for goodness sake, Jason quoted a reliable source. I do my best at staying civil and enjoy the maturity and friendliness of this site. Getting slapped in the face after being nice to someone is not my cup of tea, but I will always try to stay civil in my posts. Long live HybridZ Regards, DavyZ
  17. Guys, am I missing something here? Is there something in the water? Has Bin Laden actually spiked the water which is turning people into trolls???? Unless I am completely mistaken, and forgive me 82racecar if I am, but YOU ASKED FOR INFORMATION, and Jason quoted a reliable source for you. I have reread your post and cannot figure out how you seem to "know" what you can and cannot do, yet you post the question anyway. You apparently have no idea about what the spirit of this is supposed to be. If I have misread your post, I am truly sorry, so please use puncutation next time. Have a nice day Davy
  18. Larry and Jason just gave you the correct advice--you can make a good informed decision based on that. Also, what will you be using the car for mostly? That should have a large bearing on your decision making process, of how radical of an engine you want to produce. Keep in mind that the larger your cubic inches, the larger the cam you can run and still be streetable. Just food for thought. Davy
  19. OK, Jordan is not a purist in any sense of the word--and that is cool! A speed guy Jordan, this will work with the 351, I'm nearly positive, but if you do happpen to run into any hood clearance issues, you can always opt for the cowl induction hood. I used to dislike them, but they have grown on me so much I actually want one!! Good luck with your project. Davy
  20. quote: Originally posted by James M: ...Excuse me if this is a really stupid question, but I'm not very experienced with this kinda stuff... James, you are smart enough to post this question in the proper forum, so I think you are smart enough to rebuild your tranny! If you really want to stay with the 350 tranny (overdrive ones are by far better for any amount of street driving IMO) you can get books on rebuilding and buy a kit on how to do it. I have no idea about prices on the parts since I'm a manual kind of guy, but I suspect rebuild kits from Summit and the like are relatively cheap--it really depends on how extensive of a rebuild you are talking about. At some point, you really might be better off buying a 2004R or 700R4 like Tim said. Davy
  21. Ah, good point about the 280ZX wheels, Ross. They (stock ones) are typically better looking than anything stock from the factory, or even optional wheels offered by the dealers at that time. The 280ZX wheels with the right rubber fill in the wheel wells very nicely IMO, but they are still more limited in width than an aftermarket setup with coil-overs ($$$$). Davy
  22. Jordan, Is this a swap you are seriously considering? Do you already have a 240Z to use or do you need to still purchase a Z for the swap? Depending on the smog laws in your area, you might be able to get by with a later model of Z, like a 280Z, which would be easier to find, maybe even cheaper, and have little to no rust on it. Just my $.02. Davy
  23. Cop out?!?? Geeez, thanks Tim! Heh, nice work on the mount and all the other work as well--thanks for the pics BTW--as they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Davy
