History on Car

To start the license plate tag says its from 89

And the person i bought the car off wasnt to found of sleep(drug user)

it had been completely drained of all fluids before stored luckily tho

the car was complete n he fired(not idle) it up before i bought it

work they did

supposedly it had a bottle in it, and i can see were it could have been mounted

the car came to me with out the bottle but with "custom" exhaust(4 tips out one side) that i cut off

the carb had been "rebuilt" but done incorectly, they had done the brakes, but forgot one of the drums

installed a cam, but what kind n size they couldnt tell me but said it was kinda rough

the 350 is alil bit of a mystery but its 4bolt main, made in mexico and possibly from a late 70's model chev

turbo 350 tranny has a B&M shifter

Hooker Headers

edelbrok intake manifold

600cfm holley carb quad jet

Work ive done

so now since i got it i did the basics- plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, tranny filter, bled brakes, new thermostat

then i replaced with new Msd HEI distributor, rebuilt carburetor, new starter, new fuel pump(not electric), running a temporary radiator while i dial it in, new summit altenator, lined gas tank, water pump gasket, new oil pan gasket, new tranny gasket, verified a tight timing chain

timing was set to 12 before tdc

although i did the compression it was the first time ive ever done it, so i think i did it right. dry first wet second. n it seemed pretty good all the way around (i think it was about 155lbs wet all the way around), i also did a vacuum test off intake and it seemed low

PROBLEM

i have owned the car for two years and havent driven it yet, thats a big problem itself to me lol

but i cant get the damn thing to idle down. in park i get it down to 1000 but then dies any lower. havent even put it in drive while it was on.

it also would "studder" half way up the throttling up, but it would only last a second then continue reving up(not in gear)

I do have a lil ticking noise comin from passenger side valves(angle heads), i would like to adjust them soon(gonna cut out window on valve cover)

I live in the trivalley of the cali bay area if u wanna stop by n give me a lendin hand

Thanks

travis

Have you adjusted the mixture screws on the carb, Adjusted timing, Checked for vacuum leaks, does dist have vacuum advance on it?. If not, you can increase timing. I would start with those things, then look at the carb again if you can't it to idle any lower then 1k.

my dad is a 30year mechanic(diesel tho) had recently adjusted my brothers ford 302 edelbrock carb n timing to idle at 550(not bragging but saying he does have experience adjustin these things) n he adjusted the screws to the best he could about a half turn out on both sides

its a vacuum advance distributor, n we set the timing to 12 with the vacuum canister closed off

we havent done a vacuum leak test-when u squirt brake cleaner in a controled method around the intake manifold, been meaning to get some n do this

If its a radical cam could it be the culprit??

THANK YOU FOR THE TIMELY RESPONSE!!
