Check my smog logic

Hey so as you can see the black smog/balance tube has been hacked and chopped (its a junk yard build). My plan is to take off the rail completely and cap off the intake runners leaving only the booster vacuum hose on the rear intake runner. Then attach the crank case hose to the intake filter housing and plug all the exhaust manifold holes. Would this work or do i need to weld a tube connecting the two runners?

It should work fine. I don't know if there is a perfomance benifit by using (or not).

What about the throttle linkage? It is part of the balance tube.

okay great so i dont need a balance tube? My plan for the linkage is to make a new bracket that mounts off the front intake runner bolts, where the old balance rail was. Ill post the pictures if i do go through with this. im just hesitant because i dont know if the booster vacuum would effect the rear carb.

No, you do not need the balance tube. Its primary function is to provide a smooth vacuum source for the Master-Vac, PVC, and other vacuum powered devices.

The Master-Vac does affect the idle a bit. In some cars the idle speed increases slightly while pumping the brakes. This might be more pronounced if it is only connected to one carb. I doubt it will actually be a problem when driving.
