SUNNY Z
Alright, I'm in the process of building my 280z, and trying to eliminate unnecessary weight along the way. I'm going to be shaving the rear bumper soon. As i was under the car yesterday, I saw two brackets that have to weigh 2-3# each. The bolt holes can be seen through the rear sheet metal, in the orange boxes below. I was curious if they actually do anything, because they have one bolt to the frame, and then look like they might be spot welded on as well. I don't really see the rear "bumper" losing much structural integrity if i take them out. I was just curious. This is not my car, just a generic pic. piston
Mine actually came with the original tie down bracket piece bolted on there when I got it. It is also the same spot for the skinny bumper mounts if I'm correct. But if you are planning to shave it, all of the holes can be patched off and will not effect your rear structure. if anything, I would think stiffer and stronger. Heroez
Some states require bumpers. Check local laws before crossing state lines.
