Serpentine belt

Okay, I've removed my powere steering pump (was broken in accident), my air pump, and my engine came without an air conditioning unit.

I'd appreciate info on which serpentine belt setup to use. What is the March pulley setup? I understand Firebern and scca used an 86 Ford Crown Victoria LTD water pump - how does this work exactly and what parts do you need? Do you have the part numbers??? Thanks a lot, my project is humming along...what a blast!

crown vic pump.

its the opposite rotation of the stang one.

you just file the holes on the original 5L pulley larger to fit the Cvic pump. then a short belt and thats it.

nice and clean looking.

march's stuff is nice but their "cheap" kit is F'ing UGLY... the only nice one is over $100 usd to eliminate the PS and AC. and the really nice one has a alternator bracket with heims but like $150....(maybe one day)

Thanks, Mike. The belt on my engine was gone - does the crown Vic water pump run clockwise or counterclockwise? And do you know the exact length of belt you used??(So's I can order all the parts at the same time ...) icon_biggrin.gif

Dr Graham we must loose sleep over the same things I was goning to post the same ? The only thing I am woundering about is the belt only touches a small part of the water pump pulley unless I am missing something. Does any one have a picture to show us ?Are you using this system SCCA ?

Mine worked out nicely. I have a 1991 Mustang 5.0. I took off the air pump and power steering pump. I used a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria water pump - Fenco part number P 1159 ($60 Canadian) plus a Polycog 5060450 belt ($33.71 Can.) The belt runs on the outside of the crank pulley, the outside of the water pump pulley, the inside of the tensioner pulley, and the outside of the alternator pulley. The belt touches the waterpump pulley through 90 degrees (i.e. 1/4 of the pulley touches). Maybe Bob in Cranbrook do you not have a tensioner in your setup? By the way I was able to use the original Mustang water pump pulley with the Crown Vic pump - the holes just have to be filed to the new bolt position (which isn't as barbaric as it sounds because the pump is centered on a shaft snd the bolts only act to secure it). Looks really clean!
