Hi Guy's, I plan to use alsils motormounts to fit my 5.0 in. will these mounts set my motor in nicely?

also what type of headers can I use with them?

Alsils mounts work just fine. I modified the design a little once I built them and fitted with the motor in place with the tranny (lowered the engine a little more) There have also been some mods to the original design that Alsil suggested(do a search) like extending the length 1/8 inch etc.

IMO you'll also want to sleeve the frame rails so they dont smush when you torque down the bolts. I think it works better than a "C" configuration. You may also want to lengthen the top and side pieces ala SCCA's design to distribute the load better, though you'll have to do some grinding to get them around the T/C mounts.

I don't think Alsil used headers (am I right Al?).

If you want to use headers you'll either have to modify the header to tilt it inward away from the steering shaft, or put a u-joint in the shaft to move it away from the header (see SCCA's site). The most common header to use is a Hooker Block hugger.

FYI, I think SCCA is working on a "Kit" to drop the 5.0 into a Z, which includes the steering shaft u-joint set-up. And Blueoval is also creating plans for his mount design. When I'm finished with my conversion I'll draw-up and post how I did it (header work involved but I love the clearance I gained).
