Guest Anonymous
I thought enhancing the Supra TT engine would be rather pricey compared to the 4.6 - still, that's another engine I need to research. No, supra TTs are probably the most responcive enignes to simple mods except mabey a GN or something.I mean, a $200 Downpipe can net over 40 RWHP. http://www.suprastore.com/450hppackage.html The main cost would be the initial purchase of the engine, which would be alittle pricey. Also, if you have to buy factory toyota parts, that will be expensive.
Guest Anonymous
I’m going with a 5.0/302 for my project, why? More parts available, parts and upgrades are cheaper, the 5.0 has a better longevity and repair history than the 4.6. and lastly the 5.0 sounds better! When you tell people you have a 5.0 under the hood their jaws drop. You don’t get the same thing with telling people I have a 4.6 under the hood! Guest Anonymous
I see the 4.6 vs. 5.0 question goes on, even among non-fomoco drivers. Personally, the 4.6 offers nothing that the 5.0 doesn't; except more size, weight and expense. Those that say the 4.6 is rev-happy are right; but it's rev-happy because it has to be to make power. I don't know who is saying the 4.6 (and the other mod-motors) are patterned after the Boss 429; but they are getting bad info. The mod-motor has a completely different valvetrain layout (OHC vs. OHV) and the block bears no resemblance at all to the 385-series Ford block other than having 8 cylinders. The only thing the two engines have in common is size and weight.
BLKMGK
The 429 thing comes from the crossbolted mains - nothing more that I know of. Oh, and liek the SOHC engine it's got mile long timing chains (lol)

Well, if you are talking about stock vs stock.....there is something the 4.6L motor has over the 5.0......320HP/300lb ft(Cobra) vs. 225hp/300lb ft
Guest Anonymous
Granted, the 4.6 makes more hp than the 5.0L stock for stock; but they make the same torque. Since horsepower is a function of torque over a period of time (rpm), if two engines make the same torque, the one with the higher horsepower level has to be revved higher to make that additional horsepower. That's what I meant by the 4.6 has to rev to make power. As far as the "pulling power" of each, they are identical. The Boss 429 didn't have cross-bolt mains. The engine BLKMGK is describing is the old SOHC "Cammer" 427 Ford with it's mile-long cam chain.
